Thread: Do speed CA's work for Jedi or non-jedi, first round of testing?

Ok, I've been involved in some discussions around the board about speed CA's and many people swear that they do not work at all. Everyone says that they definitely don't work for jedi and a few people have said that they don't work for normal professions either.

I did a bit of testing and found something strange. I used my master pistoleer and my jedi. The results clearly showed that the pistoleer did see a benefit from speed CA's. However, the jedi kept getting inconsistant speeds even when I put his speed CA's on. The speeds were never the same and most definitely was no where near the listed modified speed of the saber. The pistoleer on the otherhand attacked at the exact modified speed of the weapon.

What I found is thatmodified weapon speeddon't seem to be counting when your using a single attack over and over, it seems the base weapon speed is the only thing that's used for spamming a single attack.

However, when you alternate between two different attacks (that doesn't have warmups or very long cooldowns), the modified weapon speed is used and over the course of many attacks, the time you took to do those attacks will equal your modified weapon speed perfectly.

As I said, the numbers were consistant for my pistoleer, but the jedi showed randoms speeds.

My pistoleer has a base weapon speed of 2.36 and mod weapon speed of 1.63 and when I do a single attack over and over....her attack speed was near or atbase weaponspeed (2.36).

Then I would alternate attacks and her speed would be exactly 1.63 (the mod weapon speed).

I then put in some pistol speed CA's and her mod weapon speed became 1.57. using the same attack over and over, again she attacked at the base weapon speed (2.36). Alternating attacks showed her attacking at the new modified weapon speed (1.57).

For my jedi, no matter whether he had CA's on or not, all of the speeds at which he attacked at was not consitant and was nowhere near the modified weapon speed. It was always a bit higher than the modified weapon speed. No matter if i use the same attack over and over or if I alternate attacks, the jedi never attacked at his modified weapons speed.

This was all done without speed buffs. I will test speed buffs soon as I can get a doc to buff my pistoleer (not many docs around these days ). Then I can compare the differences.

Some notable things I did for the testing was I went to dant and found a mob that was half of my CL. Then I used my weakest weapons I have. for my jedi, it was a training saber. For my pistoleer it was a CL 1 cdef pistol.

Also, I used no foods, no buffs, no powerups. just a freshly crafted training saber with a normal color crystal and a freshlly crafted cdef pistol.

Two reasons I did this is first, the damage is low so I can get anywhere from 20 - 50 attacks in. Second is so that I don't have to heal, use CoB/aura or do any other actions that might affect my time attacking. I just wanted to focus on attacking only. With them being half my CL, it made for a long fight where they couldn't kill me and It took a long time for me to kill them.

I will hopefully do some testing on a PVP target soon also.

For the attacks I used, I wanted to use attacks that didn't have a huge delay first. For pistoleer I used ranged attack and quickdraw because they both have a 1 sec cooldown and no warmup. For jedi, I used saber hit and saber strike because they too have a fast cooldown and no warmup.

For many of the other abilities for both pistoleer and jedi, the cooldowns play a huge role in how fast you can alternate between two moves. Like when I used powerattack and saber hit, after the saber hit, I still had to wait some time before I could cycle the two moves. I did power attack first and saber hit second to give power attacks cooldown time. conclussion is that specials abilities with warmups and/or long cooldowns will not allow you to attack at your listed modified weapon speed, the same goes for pistoleer specials. So I assume all professions are the same as well.

So from this first round of testing, I can conclude that Speed SEA's do work despite what people are saying.many have posted that speed SEA's don't work for any profession. This is not true for pistoleer at least.....However, that's not to say that some professions aren't havingthe samespeed issues as jedi.

I can't really start to guess what's causing such inconsistancies except that I know speed is /bugged for jedi as we all know already. I mean, I knew about the other crystal /bugs (I accounted for that in my test also), but I assumed that since my CA's where working for my pistoleer that i could clearly see with the naked eye prior to this testing, I thought jedi was working the same way aside from the crystal and cooldown bug.

I'm gonna now do some testing on various speed issues with jedi with various sabers, crystals, no crystals, buffs...etc. I'll do the same for my pistoleer and a couple of my other toons as well as check out pvp also. I've pretty much figured out a theory of the cooldown /bug and why it happens, but not exactly sure how since I don't know how the cooldown timers are calculated for sure.

Anyway, before anyone says that we already know that jedi speed is /bugged.....that's not the reason I wrote this post. I wrote this because everyone keeps saying that speed SEA's don't work for any profession and after getting consistant results over and over again with my pistoleer using many weapons.....I believe that speed SEA's are not broken for anyone but jedi.

So when we start telling the devs that something is completely broken for everyone, without proving it, the devs may go and do a fix on something that may have not needed to be fixed and it introduces another /bug.

So before we all start saying SEA's don't work or do work, I will have to say that every profession needs to do test to make sure the speed SEA's work or not for your profession. If it's every profession, then it's a global issue in the main part of the code for the speed formula....if it's just a few professions or just jedi, then the issue is not global and doing a fix with the assumption it is a global issue, will definitely break something else in the game.

The test I did is proof that SEA's do work at least for pistoleer or at least in a specific situation......now I have no idea if SEA's are supposed to work in all speed calculations (meaning while using a single attack only)....if they are, then speed is broken for everyone....but if SEA's where meant to affect a single attack or alternating attacks differently, then speed SEA's are not broken.......however, only the devs know the real answer to this question.

This may be why the devs haven't made any speed fixes for jedi.

On another note....in my opinion, jedi speed seems to be fitting into game balance pretty well right now. I don't see speed for jedi being a huge issue. This may be one of those /bugs that actually help the game instead of unbalance it.
