Thread: A Word to the Devs: Master Powers can choke while meditating (if you fix it, fix it all)

I was fighting with my guildies in the droid factory a few nights ago, and I was taking one of my frequent force regen breaks (the joy of a gimped template, check my sig) and another SBD aggro'd us. My friends rush in, and while I was meditating, I decided to launch my typical opening attack: choke (works wonders against droids... don't ask me what airflow I'm choking).

The expected result: My toon stops meditating and gets up, then fires a choke at my target, wit the typical pinkish-lamish power arc.

The result I got: My toon got up, the meditation effect still going, the Yoda icon still active under my name, reached out with his fist, closing it in a choke/grasping gesture, applied the choke, then sat back down in a meditative stance, and resumed meditating. Bottom line: I was able to choke without breaking meditation, and I repeated it many times.

Working as intended? Maybe, it would make sense after all...

Now, to the dev reading this and intent on fixing this, here is my message to you: if you fix this bug/omission in powers, fix them all:

  • Make sure no one can use /follow to track a cloaked Jedi.

  • Remove the zip bars from our attacks, making it impossible for us to attack in movement, and severely gimping us. Use reasonable cooldown timers in line with the MLS cooldowns instead.

  • Make sure we are an alternative to LS (as stated in concept during the CU) byusing pearls/crystals to affect our damage and force costlike LS can, using some kind of crafted necklace or talisman.

  • Make sure force breach applies a no-rebuff period of 5-6 seconds after removing a buff.

  • Make sure all range accuracy mods, foods and tapes work for force powers the same way melee accuracy mods can be used with LS.

  • Make sure our innate force accuracy mods can also be used for enhancer skills (stasis, suppression, wave) since LS wielders use their LS accuracy mods to use enhancer skills.

  • Make sure our force power animations actually work when holding a LS or nothing, instead of having to hold a gun.

  • And finally, make sure we stand a chance vs other Jedi in PvP since right now, our speed and damage are lower, force costs are higher, and our attacks are mitigated by innate armor, aura, valor, shield, force feedback and absorb; vs sabers that are only mitigated by aura and innate armor.

Thank you.

well done on the best comprehensive list of the disadvantages of being master powers. personally i went powers cause i liked the concept better, but found it isnt even effective as a support profession, let alone the balanced profession that it should be with sabers

Have you read the template guide linked in my sig?

i have read your guide, but your support profession is based on having master enhancer, or quite a bit of it, and thats where the support comes from. the rooting and stasis are enhancer abilities and are the most effective of the support abilities. the intimidate and knockdown by powers are very useful, and supportive, but once you've done that, you have little in the way of help. the ability to area lightning is difficult to use as an effective weapon in large scale combat (more than 3 enemies) due to the long cooldown timers and the zip bar. a MLS can attack nearly 2x faster than a powers template and does the same damage, so that means twice the damage output. not to mention that we are rooted while in animation using our most powerful abilities, which completely negates the kiting strategy that other support ranged professions can take advantage of. removing the self-root, lowering the cooldown timers and taking away the zip bars would effectively increase the use of powers as a support profession and go a long way to giving us the balance with sabers that should exist.

I read your post yesterday and I went home and did some testing of my own. Here are my results.

10 times I started from meditate and used a power before standing.

5 times meditate broke and I stood up and executed the power
3 times meditate did not break after the 1st power but did when I tried the second
2 times meditate did not break for an entire lair (in a spin group) and I was able to use every ability in master powers that did not use a zip bar. I.E. Choke, Intimidate, Area KD, Force Hit, Force Strike, Force Throw, Mind Blast and pretty much everything that wasn't lightning or cloak.

Also I did try this using some enhancer specials and meditate broke every time. Seems to only be a bug with powers

You can also Area Knockdown, Area Intimidate, Force Wave and some others without getting up from Meditate, it's great for when you're grinding and a bit low on Force.

Cheers for getting this nerfed by the way.

Thanks for the info guys. I had no idea it had been going on for so long. I've been master powers since the CU but it never occurred to me to try this. I simply discovered it by chance.

I know some will hate me for bringing attention to this, but it needs to be fixed. My message to the devs is if they open the force wielder code for fixes, then they should fix everything, not just what advantages us.

After master healer, we are the most gimped/broken/unbalanced jedi prof, and we deserve attention. I wanted to have a thread that might catch the devs attention since it discusses something broken in our favor in hope they would also read it all and see what is broken and gimping us.
