Thread: Curious about Melee and Ranged Defense...

Ok, I read the stickied post which tests food, and we got a post about a week ago confirming some fears of mine. So, anyone that has tested the defense mods and got confirmation on how this works, I'd love your input. Anyone with "theories" of how this works, please just sign you want confirmation as well. Stating what you "believe" will only keep the rest of us in the dark as to actual in-game findings. Thx.
My question is this, if I havea melee defense of 150 and a ranged defense of 200, during the times I have a LS equipped in combat, is my defense vs a rifle 150 or 200? I'm trying to determine if the modifiers listed are my def vs such attacks, or if these mods are my defense while using this type of combat. 150
The answers to this alter my shopping habits and use of sockets in my clothing. I don't want to buy up a +25 ranged defense to help vs the MBH if that mod only affects combat during the times I equip a rifle, pistol, carbine, or use Powers. I'm MLS =-)
Thanks for any help you can provide in clear this issue for me.
The answer currently is 150. This is not expected and has to be a bug.
Expect it to get fixed sometime in the future.

So your answer leads me to believe that I should purchase +25 ranged defense and have room for the sockets, only prioritize these purchases after my melee defense mods.
I would cap mods in this order:
general Melee speed
general melee accuracy
LS specific speed
LS specific accuracy
force regen
Melee Defense
Ranged Defense
Terrain Negotiation
However if you are gonna cap these, then most likely you are not wearing your robe. And if you are not wearing your robe you can cap the MD, RD and TN in BE clothes.

Are we even sure now what ranged and melee defense mean? I thought I read a post of test results that led to the conclusion that ranged defense might actually only apply when you are holding a ranged weapon, as opposed to defense vs a ranged weapon. Of course, no developer input 'cause god help them if they actually have to go on the record about something in this borked a game.

This is why I am asking... I've read too much that support both and don't know which is true.

There were several tests in the original thread that support the theory that currently the mods are working as defense WITH instead of defense against. So the mod that is working is based on your weapon not the opponents weapons. The only question seems to be if this is a bug. It seems likely that it is but who knows.
