Thread: Need Hard Data on Crystals and Pearls

Hello All;

If anyone has actually tracked and kept their data on random tunes for Fair / Good Crystals and Good Pearls would you please send them to me. I am trying to determine the statistical probability of the chances a crystal or pearl will tune within a given range. Early data (and its certainly not enough to be conclusive) indicates that on Fair / Good Crystals

The median tune is 41

90% of all tunes will be between 18 - 58 (This range is too wide and begs for more data)

5% of all tunes will be below 18

5% will be above 58

This early data suggest that a player who tunes his crystals randomlymust tune 100 cyrstals to get 5 crystals above 58. Keep in mind that could be any number between 59 - 120 which would meanthat the chance of getting a really good tune will be exceptionally rare.

More data is better. I stress the tunes should be truely random without any set type of pattern for tuning them. Saving up and doing 10 at a time or doing them atset time does not count. Also, it would be very helpful if you tracked the qulity and tune. Please keep pearls seperate of crystals. FC is weclome.

Thanks for helping!

Follow-Up

Okay, I'm starting to see a clear pattern and the news isn't good. I still would like more data, so if you wouldn't mind sending me the complete results of your tunes I would appreciate the effort.

The differences between fair and good crystals are so minute that separating the tune results for them is a waste of time. Fellow Jedi, with few exceptions tuning a fair / good crystal will fall within the following range:

Fair / Good Crystal Standard Tuning Range = 25 - 68
Quality Crystal Tuning Range = 33 - 60
Good Pearl Tuning Range = 35 - 82

What does the standard tuning range mean? It means that statistically, only about 25% ofcrystals or pearls will tune outside this preset range.Roughly, tunes outside this range will be distributed evenly on either side of the minimum and max ranges. As has long been rumored, pearls seem to have aslightly betterchance of higher tunes than crystals. While this sounds promising for getting a decent tune above the maximum, you must understand that the chances of getting a perfect tune (120) are less likely than getting say a 69 for a Fair / Good crystal or a 83 for a Pearl. That is because of numerical grouping. Jedi might ask why quality crystals seem to have a tighter range. At this point, I don't have as much data on quality crystals as I do the other type. This number is the most likely one to see a significant change as more information is gathered. However, it could mean the formula set by SWG for tuning is seriously flawed at the middle ranges and quality crystals are "less likely" to tune outside of their standard range, which given my experience with them seems accurate.

For a return oninvestment considering its hard to say if farming Krayt's is worth the increased chanceof a good tune. If a Jedi has a good group,Krayts can be more productive not only inPearls butother loot. But a krayt is not a good bet for a new Padawan and that means crystals. Either way, unless you area very lucky Padawan, you will have to harvestaround 100 crystalsor 80 pearls to get a saber in the upper500 damage range. Count on severalhundred toget above600. A700 damage saber with the current drops will beextremely difficult to attain.

Good Hunting!

i started a thread that showed literally thousands of tunes that had the numbers listed for around 200 jedi players...search through my posts to like page 3 or 4 and maybe you will see it. was titled "lets end the myth and conjecture" may be of assistance. never got stickied cuz it pointed out that tiggs' response to pearl issues is completely false.

i have tuned around 300+ total crystals. pre cu they were only premium or flawless....post cu of course was only quality or lower. i have 3 perfect pearls after conversion and one perfect crystal capped at 110 dmg, -.29 spd, -9 fc. i personally have never tuned a less than premium for any where close to perfect.

I am a SOE customer. Now, if they would only treat me like one...
i used to be 4 accts out of 450k active accts
then 2 accts out of 250k
then 1 out of 200k
now 0 of 175k as of dec 25th....
i am a soe shareholder and do know how many active accts there are.

Thanks Cahn-a-licious, I'll do just that. With that much data it should validate the numbers.

From experiance with post cu tunes I would say 50-76 dmg is more common then 5%. I would rate this about 10% with 80-90 dmg closer to 5%.

Pick me !!
