It would be REALLY helpful to have something like the /checkforcestatus or the old /deathcount, where we can do something like /visibilityrating to see how high our rating currently is.

This would help people to see whether they are on the terminals, close to being on them, no worry in the world of a BH coming after them and so on.

Since the visibility precentage is being tracked somehow server-side so that the player will eventually end up on the terminals I should think that an in-game player tool like this would be easy to implement. It would also cut back on the people who get mad or upset about a BH coming out of nowhere when they think they are off the terminals. They can plan on taking time off to work on their other character or on another server while the visibility lowers itself if they had some way of checking their status. It would also be easier to do than say a HUD graphical representation or new HUD element.

Just a thought, but it might help at least keep people a bit more interested in knowing how they are getting visibility, as well as maybe track down any bugs with visibility. i.e. a player is using a scythe to take out a mob of npcs instead of a saber and can check to see if the visibility went up (which would be a bug!) or not.

i think it'd be a great way for the devs to help the players and the players to help the devs, yes?

I think you should also feel a distrubance in the force if a BH is on your tail, and maybe that would get stronger as the BH gets closer to you.

An interesting idea, however I would have to disagree. Being able to view your visibility is like being able to see your opponent's next move in chess. Even though it is frustrating getting killed and losing experience, it is something that you'll just have to cope with, because living the life of a Jedi isn't supposed to be easy. A Jedi should be attentive and watchful of their environment.
Jedi is supposed to be a prestigious profession, but if petitions like this, and the petition asking for a cut on experience loss were passed, it would ruin the reward of being a Jedi. Is that what you guys want, everybody and their grandmother running around with lightsabers? If my points are not reasonable, then please, please do enlighten me.

Cheers, Lymsuun

in retort... there are times that a jedi may be doing the best possible job of avoiding visibility but some lookie-loo comes driving by too close out of nowhere, or an NPC who was at say 70m walks up to around 35m while you are in combat and don't notice. My favourite: an NPC mob that was near your mission was killed & looted before you got there and then they start respawning near you during your combat when you didn't know they were there before.

there are plenty of little things like that which cannot be avoided and it would be nice to know whether it affected you or not, and if so by how much. i definitely don't want everyone running around as jedi (and i think the village was the worst thing to happen to the game next to putting holocrons in the game), but it sucks when every time a little thing (such as listed above) occurs and you have to track down a friendly BH who can spend a long while on the terms to find a mission for you that may or may not be there. i also agree that it should be a prestigious profession -- but for all the bugs still in it that affect the desire to play it, a little thing like this shouldn't be a big issue. if nothing else it'll help keep jedis off for a couple weeks if they know their vis is high and want to wait for it to clear. ...they just have to KNOW it, though.

Well that just seems like you aren't watching your radar very well.. if a mob or NPC sneaks up on you as a Jedi, you pretty much deserve to die from it. I'm always watching my radar for enemy mobs, so they don't sneak up on me in combat. As far as visibility goes.. maybe have a system message warn you of danger (a bounty-hunter) for example, at a certain distance. Something like.. "The force warns you of a present danger headed your way.." (doesn't have to be exactly that, but something of that extent). But a /visibility check with a number system or a cold/hot hint kinda saps the flavor out of it. When someone is hunting you, you're not supposed to know it. A deer out in the wilderness doesn't use /sensecheck to see if hunters are hunting him today. I know this is just a game.. but the genre of the game is RPG, MMORPG to be exact.. and we're trying to go with what's plausible, not what's easy.

One last comment i'll make about it...

something like this would be no different than using the /checkforcestatus to see how close to your inner-force glow is. i'd guess that 95% of the players have used that to its fullest to see if they qualified for the village when pub 10 came out, running around to make sure they had done enough content badges and checking after each and every one. it's there so players don't have to sit around and think "gee, i wonder if i'm glowing enough that the old man will visit me. maybe i'll just stay here and not do anything for 2 more days". the visiblity thing would do basically the same thing, just cut out a middle man of having a BH check the terms for you (see above on more info about the waste of time that is now for the BH). sure it's not in the RPG-vein of things, but neither is a lot of the stuff in the game. do you think players should have the display icons to show that they are buffed or under the influence of food/drink/spices/downers? those were added to help inform players of how long something lasted -- this would be no different, just another informational device for a player to have.

if you don't like the idea, don't post in here and let the message scroll off and die.

I'm Nov LS and nov DF, so equipping a LS takes me an age, as does grinding anything down.....

I was recently grinding a Sharnaff Lair in the corellian mountains. As per usual, I see the lair, and do a quick cout around in a 100m radius of it to make sure that there are no NPC mobs around it. This being the corellian mountains, I have never seen any NPCs there, as it's nowhere near the Rebel Stronghold.

I had been grinding away on Sharnaffs and Bulls for about 30 minutes at this lair, when suddenly, and exactly 35m away a mob of 5 meatlumps spawned; not on a flat plain but on a 2:1 hillside. One aggro'd, *BANG* visibility up. It took me about 10 seconds to finish the special move I was using, and then equip a VK

I will /sign this because it will help in situations like this to ensure that your vis hasn't gone too high through either bad luck or an in game bug. With all the reports of BH's still having missions after a deathblow, and folks getting visibility even after they have been offline for weeks, a system such as this is only fair. Until, and ONLY until, these sort of bugs have been sorted out, I will not have the confidence in the game to trust that I'm not being hunted unfairly. I have zero sympathy withanyone who complains about vis and BH, after grinding in the geo caves. But for thos of us who want to play properly, being obsessively careful about how and where we hunt, it's completely unfair to be subjected to bugs regarding BH and vis without any means of checking whether weare suffering from bugs or not.
