Thread: My story and looking for answeres I hope this is not the end
I have been playing this game since shortly after release some friends at work were big Star Wars fans and with no Star Trek at the time I had started looking more into the movie I first saw at a drive in when I was 7 years old... Even as I was in my final days of EQ I knew that the only MMPORG that I would spend any time looking forward to was SWG. OU was going to send me to an early grave with the insane PvP where I would spend weeks mining to make armor and weapons only to have them looted from my warm dead body hours after going adventuring... EQ (over 2 years of it) was little more than camp this camp that starting with Rubicite to the items I needed to get my Cleric hammer.
SWG was fresh had a mix of PvP (not always fun but I didn't lose my shirt!) Crafting (countless hours moving harvs about the galaxy and sampling) to adventure and exploration. Took me 3 months to make my first million from selling the quest disks and kill meatlumps. As a Wookiee with no armor my cloner was my friend (even though I remember the first few weeks of EQ flashbacks running to my skeleton for my items!) Almost a year later I had my first set of armor and I could solo and Doc buffs... man those were the days!
While from day one (day zero if you wanted to count al the time I was waiting for the release but not too certain I would buy) I knew I wanted to be a Jedi in the game. My last day in EQ I spoke to a friend and told him how I could see us becoming Jedi together if he left EQ. However I did not take part of the mad dash to Jedi and did not unlock until January of this year (seems so long ago now). I have tried to enjoy the game in whatever fashion it was given... some changes I have liked and some I have hated but I still kept my chin high and found way to have fun
While in SWG I have made many friends. Sadly many have left the game for one reason or the other and not always related to changes made but life choices that are both understandable and respected. Some have left because of changes, esp the CU. That change decimated the Jedi guild I was in. Out of 30 Jedi I think in the end 4 of us still play. One of them is someone I have know for a long time (I was one of the first shipwrights on my server) and he became one of my best customers. I really enjoyed playing the part and over a few weeks we became friends and if there is such a thing in the game he is my best friend in SWG.
We are both in our mid 30s so it easy to have fun with each other and when I was going to leave the game it was him that was the only life line keeping me hanging in there. Over time we have got to know more about the person behind the mask as well. I trust him with my most prized items and my real life stories. If what I am about to post came from anyone other than him I would not even give it a 2nd look or thought. That is why it breaks my heart to read it... I know him IRL, I know that he lives next door to one of the managers at SOE and he is not in the rumor market. So while I hope against hope that some how he is wrong I post this email from him with the confidence that he beleives it and it comes from a solid source.
"My friends, whom I could send this out to, I come bearing the worst news possible. SOE has begun a process of which i'm sure you all have noticed by now, and that is the nerfing of Jedi. This is all part of a bigger scheme in the days coming that will cause the downfall of SWG. They are super-nerfing Jedi, and making it a starter profession. They are also removing any and all Melee professions as they, quote 'Do not appear in the movies', thus, you will have the option of being either a Jedi, Ranged, or Crafter or Entertainer of the sort. This was all created to restore the numbers they lost in the CU because they had a massive feedback with people being too lazy to grind Jedi. If they make it a starter, they figure it will skyrocket. Another ding during this is the removal of grinding. SWG will be completely quest based, running missions from your trainer and back. This will not be announced whatsoever until it is ready to go live, at which point in time we will be left with a "Like it or leave it" option. Please, I beg of you forward this to as many veteran Jedi you know. Hopefully we can stop this somehow."
He followed up the email in chat telling me about his conversation with his neighbor, the one that works for SOE, when talking to his child who also plays SWG about how he looked forward to FRS coming back soon now that the exp was out... the young one shocked my friend by telling him there wasn't going to be a FRS and when he talked to his friend, the neighbor/father of the child he told him the above.
Seems to unlikely? Some things I know that help me believe it beyond my friendship... I know my friend's health is not that great, he can no longer work and SWG helps him not think about all the health issues he is having. Any of us would be shocked and outraged if when this news broke only to find out that there was nothing we could do to prevent it. I feel this is why the neighbor was open with my friend... that kind of sudden shock to his world could cause much harm. At least this way he feels he can try and stop it.
I believe my friend but I hope he is wrong; but I also know the pattern SOE has with issues like this and I am afraid he is right. So, can we ask some constructive questions and get answers?
The two I have are:
Is a change this game changing in the future?
If and when is the new FRS coming out?
This is not a rant and I am not trying to hurt the game or SOE in any fashion, I am simply doing what any good person would do and seek out the truth: Please do not flame or troll this... I don't want it removed or for them to have any reason to think of doing it.
THE THREAD
People complain about how many Jedi there are now! I wonder how many of those whiners who whine on about Jedi numbers would actully start as a Jedi if that was made possible. 99.9%?
NAH! 100% EASY

Well I cant see this happening because it seems to defy logic, but I cant put logic and SOE devs together. If this did happen I know I would be done and so would most vets cause how could they repay hours of work, hours of grinding and such by making jedi a starting prof. THen the game would pretty much be BH vs Jedi. And think Jedi are common now if this did happen 4 out of 5 would be a jedi. And how would they do the extra char I dont know. Oh well, guess its been going downhill since cu, might as well see how far it can go.

I remeber way back when some goof hacked the designer of EQ personal PC and found the blueprint document to what is now EQ2. No one believed that they would be designing a replacement not even a year into the game. It was denied by the powers that be at EQ but end the end we all found out it was true... one the guy got in a ton of trouble for the hack and his post described exactly what has now come EQ2.
Like I said, I have a lot of faith in my friend... I don't think he would tell me this knowing how it would affect me if any part of his story was not accurate. He plays this game almost religiously now that he can no longer work due to his illness. Last night he finished the Obi-Wan quest and was so pumped and tonight he seemed so deflated... I was very sad for him.
If the above come to pass, this is what I would like to see happen:
A new SWG MMPORG be released that is dated just after the end of EPIII. You would have all the important faces and a time-line that Powerful Jedi would still exist (yes they will be hunted down like dogs but they exist). Give the Jedi Vets a free pass to the new game as Jedi. Limit the number of Jedi that can advance over a given time. The primary cust base would be other classes and maybe even have perma death again if you are killed by Vadar... and a nice reward if you face him to live another day.
I am tired and being fanciful now but after paying $30 for ToOW and hearing the above, I need something to dream about.
Nite all,
I would dare say thousands of players called me and my friend that tried to warn you a nut or lier, and that was those that felt themselves kind in their comments.
I am sorry I was right, I hope they make this fun. I will wait and see.
BUT to all those that called me and my friend bad names, how do you like your crow served? ![]()
