Thread: My idea to reduce Jedi from the GCW

I posted this in the GCW forum as well and so far no comments, so I am posting it here as well so that the target audience see it.

Greetings all,

I had a few thoughts about what might be a compromise for reducing the amount of Jedi in the GCW, as well as allowing for Jedi to become more powerful instead of having to nerf them, such as the far less powerful sabers we are seeing now. And a few other thoughts just as food for thought.

I read all the time about how Jedi are destroying the GCW because unless you are a Jedi yourself, there is not much point inPvPing and at the same time Jedi are stating that they are being constantly reduced in power and everyone agrees to some extent that it is very unbalanced to allow an alpha class to hold sway over an entire game.

We have all cried at one time or another about the timeline this game is in, and about how having all the Jedi was destroying continuity, but the timeline has been so borked, IMO we should just shoot down any timeline we may have had and say this is a game based in the Star Wars mythology and just have fun with it.

My main idea for writing this post though is an idea that gave me pause and I had to think on it for a while. That idea is simply this, limit all groups to just one Jedi or one Knight level Jedi and one Padawan. This way Jedi can not group together to form teams that dominate all in their way. I know that you can have a collection of Jedi formed together that are not grouped but are using Teamspeak or Ventrillo, so they would be able to act as a group while not being officially a group. But if you also add the stipulation that anytime you have a grouping of say, over six Jedi in any 500m radius, there is a serious disturbance in the force ( System message stating that you feel something is wrong with the area, or some such) and the Emperor will dispatch Darth Vader with a small team ofBounty Hunters, Royal Imperial Guards and/or Imperial Special Forces that WILL try and kill the offending Jedi and any who dare to help them, that is of course if they do not flee first. Personally I would FR2 or FR3 out of there fast.

There is a continuation to this line of thinking though. Even though Jedi would not be able to effectively group on any of the known planets, new planets should be discovered where Jedi are free to form full groups and have epic battles between the lightside and darkside. I would propose a planet such as the Sith Homeworld, maybe Dagoba, and I am sure there are lots of planets that could be pulled from cannon that were bastions of Light or Darkside energies.

Making the new planets would also allow for the "Kotor" style game that a lot of Jedi and Jedi hopefuls have longed for without stepping on the toes of the "Known Universe". There could be acadamies formed for both sides, with new and interesting ways to become force sensitive developed so that once you became glowy, you could receive a mysterious message beckoning you to come to a place you have never even heard of. Once arrived, you are meet by a stranger who takes you to a temple or some such, where you are to be trained and tested (via quests, which could also include interaction between Player Character Jedi of a certain level and the hopeful Padawan. The sky is the limit here).

Well this is my idea of how we could fix the game for the betterment of all and I believe that most everyone would be happy as the core game would become less Jedi filled, current Jedi would not have to keep feeling the swing of the nerf bat, Jedi hopefuls would not have to worry about becoming Jedi and further polluting the game and could happlily become and live out the fantasy of being a Jedi, with even a potentially new and exciting method to attainforce sensitivity and training to become a Jedi like so many people have askedfor.

Well, please feel free to add to this idea or let me know what is flawed with this proposed solution.

*** I forgot to mention that the "Jedi Planets" would still be accessible by all classes, but it would be a case of "Enter at your own risk". ***

only reason there are so many Jedi in PvP today is because people still think they are the best option.

In reality, Jedi isn't the best PvP template by far...a melee doc temp would do jsut as well as any Jedi could, and probably a couple ranged temps.

In case you haven't noticed, since the implementation of Special Force requirements, the GCW is DEAD. What you are proposing would be the inevitable nail in the coffin.

There is a misconception that Jedi todayrule in pvp. The only reason someone would think that is becauseJedi probably out number the normal professions in pvp. Any good pvp'er with the right equipment, either melee or ranged, has a part in pvp. Not only do they have a part, but they can hold their own vs. a Jedi.

If Jedi got removed from the GCW, it would die. On Scylla, 90% of the pvp is Jedi. If they seperated Jedi and regular professions, there would be very few if any regular professions pvp'ing. And to those who say: "If Jedi were eliminated, more regular professions would pvp.". Completely false. Those who want to pvp already have been doing sofor the last year. Sure you might see a Master Commando or Master Creature Handler come out of the woodwork to try pvp, but they'll still get destroyedby the regular professions who have experience at pvp'ing.

If Jedi get removed from the GCW it will only make those regular profession players who pvp'd with their Jedi friends want to start their own grind towards Jedi. That's already happening in some cases.

i agree with you there. There are alot better non-regular profession templates that are much better for pvp

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.

I wonder what would happen to the GCW and SWG in general if everyone was allowed at least 4 characters per account per server?

The reason that we have to go around in large numbers is there are other jedi groups in large numbers. the gcw is dead, and its not jedi's fault. i have seen many more rifleman take advantage of ranged pupped weapons do more damage on bases than jedi could ever hope to do...but this isnt to say thats wrong, thats what riflemen do. the gcw was a failed attempt to interest pvp players into fighting each other. I proposed that groups need to be balanced but not limit so intensely who can be in the group. lets say, 4 knights or 6 padawans half template or up, or 8 low level paddies. The one thing that other proffesions dont realize is that even pre cu, we ground our points fromt he village together mostly. we made bonds that carry us past being full templated. we ground our xp out on kash together and now pickets on dant together. The worst mistake was taking solo grinding out of the game. this forced us to rely on each other and that is bad for anyother proffesion...because we still help each other out when someone gives a tell. thats something you dont see in most other proffesions. i just hate to see people still say that groups of mongeral jedi roam the hillsides killing weaker groups....well, soe has forced us into a gang mentality with nerfs. dont blame us, blame them.
