Executor’s Domain:
All good Sith follow the rule of two… all great Sith know how to bend it. Palpatine was a great Sith, and as such he was cognizant of the fact that without a constant enemy in the Jedi, his apprentice would grow weak. A weak apprentice would be unworthy to continue the lineage of the Sith and a weak apprentice would weaken his own power as well. Always searching for a better, stronger Apprentice, Palpatine turned his attention to the fallen Jedi of the Old Republic. What began with Sedriss soon grew as Palpatine formed his Dark Side Elite, Jedi trained in the Dark Side and completely loyal to Palpatine. Dark Jedi with the sole purpose of keeping the Dark Lord of the Sith at his best and one day, usurping the title if he proved too weak.
But it was in the nature of the Elite to grow. Each of Palpatine’s Executors sought more power, they sought allies so they might learn fastest and dispatch their rivals. The Executors became Supreme Executors and the ranks swelled beneath them. They collected students, designated Executors, Hands, Marauders, or a myriad of other titles depending on their status, and grew in status for each new darksider they pledged to the Emperor.
Palpatine saw this and was pleased. He had created something the Sith had long sought, a structure where power was rewarded, but where the system could not devolve into chaos. It was beneficial for all to cooperate with those below them. It was beneficial to strengthen one’s own pledges because then you gained strength for the final coup that would propel you into a higher seat. Only the Apprentice, Darth Vader, remained without allies for none would allow him to rise to Master when they could just as easily take Apprentice from him, and Vader would not allow any to take the seat of Master without deposing him as Apprentice…so in this way, Palpatine had no fear of his creation.
It seemed, however, that the Supreme Executors underestimated the Dark Lord’s power and it would require far greater effort than they had imagined to usurp his place at the Emperor’s side. The first attempt to remove the Dark Lord was by Supreme Executor Kadaan and his twelve “Prophets”. Vader massacred all but Kadaan, who was shamed instead with political exile. After Kadaan’s failure, the Supreme Executors recognized their mistake and sought more supporters for their bid. Some have become satisfied with their position for the time being, waiting for a moment of extreme weakness on the part of the Dark Lord before they strike; but none have become weak because they all know that their own pledges will depose them should they become complacent. Some Executors have sought power in the political arena, such as Lord Hethrir and High Inquisitor Tremayne.
