Thread: Saber tefs, visibility, and terminals, OH MY!

This is an idea I came up with, grabbing things from every other idea that's been thrown around this forum. I initially posted it in a thread about force pvp, but I figure I'd throw it out for everyone to twist, distort, and flame into yet another idea that'll never get implemented. So here I am, humoring myself with an idea that'll never be.

First things first...

SABER TEF

Re-enable the saber tef ONLY within npc cities. What does this mean? A Jedi within a normal city boundries (coronet, theed, etc) will receive a tef towards every other player if they do any of the following:
  • Equip, or have equiped a lightsaber or padawan/knight robes. Newly looted robes would not count since they look like craftable clothing

  • Use any jedi ability including heals, enhancements, saber attacks, etc

This will be just like the saber tef of old. Anyone can walk up and wack the jedi over the head. The jedi can fight back if they wish, or they can run like a frightened child. The tef will remain active as long as they are within the city borders. Once they leave the city, the tef will completely wear off after five minutes.

VISIBILITY

Visibility will be revamped. No longer will npcs give a jedi visibility. Only ungrouped player characters will give a jedi visibility. Visibility will otherwise work in the same way. Once enough is accumulated, it'll slap a mission on the terminals for bounty hunters to hunt. Vis will also decay, just like it currently does. Please note, the saber tef will not activate out in the wilderness. A passing player will not be able to attack a jedi using jedi abilities. They will only give the jedi vis as normal.

TERMINALS

The terminals will mostly remain unchanged. Jedi who gain enough visibility will have a mission placed on the terminal, as is the case now. The difference will be jedi who activate a saber tef. A jedi who uses an ability and openes a saber tef on themself will immediately receive full visibility and be placed on the bh terminal. Their vis will decay as normal, but this gives bounty hunters three weeks to hunt down these "known" jedi and kill them.

PENALTIES

This is one part I'm unsure of. With the changes in saber tefs, visibility, and the terminals, maybe the risk should remain the same, or maybe they should be removed. The possibility of open attack from anyone should be enough to keep most jedi in hiding.

WHAT DOES THIS ACCOMPLISH?

For one thing, this could satisfy all the jedi who love pvp and have been lusting for the saber tef to return. They use a power within a static npc city and they're open to attack, just like in the olden days. Then they can be freely hunted by bounty hunters until their visibility decays. If they keep activating a tef, they'll stay on the terminals. If they're killed by a bounty hunter, their vis goes away, and the cycle can start over again

This will also make jedi a little more rare to see. Those who either don't care for pvp, or who flat out hate it will avoid using their abilities in cities, thus significantly decreasing jedi sightings. Don't like seeing jedi duel in cities? Attack them! They have a tef! Don't want to be open to attack? Put on some "normal" clothes, unequip your saber, and blend in to the crowd. You'll be free to shop, socialize, etc. Don't want vis? Be careful who you group with and watch out for passing players. If a player accidently uses a power and gets killed by a mob of "good imperial citizens", they'll watch themselves more closely next time and not draw a crowd.

So, the PvP jedi can get what they want: unrestricted access to fighting whenever they want. Activate the tef, fight everyone near the starport, flee for a break, get hunted by bounty hunters.

The PvE jedi can get what they want: unmolested gameplay (provided they avoid visibility and using abilities in npc cities) and the ability to participate in 99% of content without fear of forced pvp.

Any questions?

Nice idea.... I like it... I assume that the Jedi would get some power boost then... Even if the boost would be pvp only... Sadly it's a good idea, which means it probably won't get implemented

P.S. Can you make it sound crappy so the powers that be might implement it?

Personally, I don't think jedi should get a power boost if these changes went in because it could offbalance the pve aspect. However, how would people think to enabling a group saber tef instead? If a jedi is grouped with guildies/friends/aliens when they activate a saber tef, their groupmates can choose to help and attack those who have attacked the jedi. This should balance it a little bit more considering the potential odds.

Good idea

But..... what if a BH attacks you at a starport and brings 50 ppl so you can either attack back and get ganked or run out of NPC city without using jedi powers

Kinda of a down side but i don't know. I might take getting ganked to bring up jedi power

If they did this, then the penaltys (XP loss) should either stay the same or DOUBLE again. Thats right double!

This would help keep the jedi that everyone hates, the Theed/Cnet/MO duelers outta sight.

That way, jedi could go and enjoy the content outside the citys, like the DWB, or the Geo Lab etc etc, without having to worry about killing the NPCs and getting a visit from a BH in under 30 mins. (happened to me 3x so far)

We could also visit Mustafar, and as long as it was outside the main area, not get vis during questing, so quests could be done without worry.

I don't mind BH visits. I have a loosing record to them, mainly due to being ganked repeadly when I was a mid lvl paddy and easy pickings for those types of vultures that inhabit such social interactions. But I dont mind the visits, its just when I am trying to quest thats the biggest pain for me.

I like to play the game, NOT sit in Theed and show off, so why should I be punished for PLAYING THE GAME?

BTW, I'm full temp now, so dont tell me to go grind or whatever, I'm JUST talking about QUESTS.

Lets either get this in place. OR, lets have instanced DWB/Geo etc etc...

Thanks

I bet if I made a whine post about how uber bhs are and how I cry because I don't like pvp or how the game is unfair and blah blah blah...that a productive idea like this would get more attention and input
