Thread: Reasonable Speculation...[posting completed]
This entire mystery about unlocking the Force Sensitive slot, and playing a Jedi seems to have generated some great discussions. I think its best to consider this mystery based solely on what we know. For that reason, I've done some reading and have assembled what is known. Suprisingly, there has actually been very little contributed by Developers on this subject. The following isall that is known for sure:
1.) No one is guaranteed the opportunity to play a Jedi. In other words, its not automatic and can't be selected from the start. (we all know this, otherwise, we wouldn't be reading this, would we?)
2.)Opening the Force Sensitive slotrequires some involvement on the player's part. The FAQ on this subject specifically points out that players have the "potiential" to "succeed in opening the force sensitive slot." That would require the player to perform some act, attain some status, or something. Actually, right now, it could be anything except doing nothing.
3.) Jedi will not be seen in the game for at least 6 months. This is not to say that there will not be player characters out there that are Force Sensitive. The FAQ is specific in saying that the "journey to becoming aJedi is extremely difficult," and for that reason it may take a while before players attain that status.
4.) The character you're playing at the time a Force Sensitive Slot is made available to you cannot take advantage of that slot. The FAQ on this subject says, "Your main character does not become a Jedi. Rather, the actions of your main character can unlock an additional character slot which is Force Sensitive." There is a lot said in that one sentence. But mainly, we're not going to find that the character we're playing now will find a quest leading to that character opening his or her force sensitive slot.
5.) Artificial means such as quotas or caps to limit the Jedi population on servers will not be used. A quota or a cap essentially means that there is no numerical limit on the number of Jedi that can exist on aserver. Rather, a different system will be employed. The FAQ referres to it as "organic." I'm not sure what that means, other than that the nature of the Jedi profession will ensure that the population fluctuates naturally. I suppose its somewhat like Earth's population, that fluctuates based soley on births and deaths as they occur through circumstance and chance. Whether this method includes actual Developer/Game Master intervention is not known. It is not confirmed or eliminated.
6.) Hardcore players are not guaranteed to, but do have a better opportunity to open the Force Sensitive slot than casual players (such as myself). I find this to be unfortunate, considering the circumstances, but I suppose it couldn't happen any other way. Regardless, the FAQ says that though "luck" has nothing to do with opening the FS slot, "it might take a casual player considerably longer to unlock a force sensitive character slot." Therefore, unlocking the slot is either done by perserverence until the method is found, or a progressive process who's completion unlocks the slot. This statement almost completely eliminates the blind luck of randomness in unlocking this slot.
Based on these points, and assuming the their interpretation from the Developer's own postings is accurate, this is all we know about the process of opening a Force Sensitive Slot. There have been a few suspect postings describing the process and some players possible success at opening a slot, but those postings have been very few, and very brief.
The only speculation that can be done now is to determine what can be absolutely established as fact, or can be absolutely eliminated as a possibility. Everything else is in the gray zone...and great topic for discussion.

PS: Apologies for the multiple posting of this thread.. I hit...some button...somewhere. And it did that.
lol you're big on these long posts regarding official statements eh buddy ![]()
Another good read soenso! ![]()
lol
Yeah, I get going, and I just can't stop! You should work with me. The people in the office hate my memos. So much in the head! So much to get out!
I'll tone'm down the future.
Soenso, the long-winded..
no need to tone it down in the future
at least your posts are intelligent and well thought out and not just some insane rambling about something that's totally insignificant
I wouldn't say from those comments that one profession has a greater chance of unlocking the FS over another. Just because a Jedi can craft a lightsaber doesn't mean an artisan is needed to unlock it.
Here is a list of things I imagine DON'T play a roll in unlocking FS..
- Killing a certain creature
- Crafting a certain item
- Roleplaying
- Random Encounters
Things I think MIGHT play a roll..
- Missons
- Maxing your skill tree
(they have said it may take 3 months to max out your character. Well 3 months for the first character, unlock FS, 3 months to reach Jedi = 6 months till we see Jedi for the truely hard core?)
Just some ideas..
The only thing close to evidence to how a force slot might be unlocked on this board that ive seen is a few posts by a guy in another thread about completing his first step on "the path" by talking to some weird nomad he happened upon in the desert. I have no idea what else he did with his stats or skills or anything else that might be a factor. But i would suggest talking to lots of NPCs. Not that i really know anything ![]()

Not that any of us know anything either. Talking to lots of NPCs seems like the right track though.
