Thread: what i think is broke and some possible fixes
Ok here it goes my idea for key changes in the game that I feel would make galaxies a lot better than it is.
1st I would like to say that the game is beautifully done. The graphics and characters look awesome.
Now down to what I think should be fixed.
1) Characters.
The combat level system does not work in galaxies IMO. The reason is we have non combat professions. My proposed fix is to remove thecombat level system and replace it with a character level and skill based system.
1a) How it works.
You remove combat XP from the skill trees completely, and leave everything as is. Change combat XP to character XP. That is 10% of all XP earned, weather it is combat, crafting, entertainer, or any other type of XP. We can buy our character levels from a NPC or vendor like we would with any other skill. [This way should alleviate a lot of coding and coding problems.] As you gain character levels you get additional modifiers to your base stats. IE additional mods to speed, defense, health, accuracy, regeneration, or if crafter bonus to assembly and experimentation ..a doctor healing efficiency..and so on.
1b) The reason I believe this change is needed.
There are a few reasons behind having a character level instead of a combat level. Not everyone in SWG is a combat class so, I find it unfair that the game seems to be designed for combat classes while leaving out a large player base. The other reason is this. It gives veteran players a reward for their time playing and their in game accomplishments. That someone that has been playing a year or 2 is better at there profession than someone who has been playing three months. Remember experience is what counts. This is missing and I believe would add a lot to the game.
2) Expansions
At this moment so is thought of as uncaring and greedy. A cash cow with only dollar signs in there eyes. With so many professions broken and bugs in this game, SOE, feels that the best course of action is to release yet another expansion? I feel if someone would actually listen to the player base and use common sense they would see what it is we want. Our professions fixed, the combat system balanced, and bugs fixed. Where is our GCW revamp? The smuggler revamp? What 2 years now for smuggler? What happen to balancing the game? So in short stop with unwanted expansions and please fix OUR game.
3) Communication and the forums and the CU
For a very, very, very, very long time the lack of communication from the dev team has been nonexistent. It seems the dev’s and the powers that be are way out of touch. I think it is time to get back to reality. Over 75,000 players didn’t want the CU, and of that 75,000 I’m willing to bet that at least 20,000 have multiple accounts. That would be dam close to 100,000 of your player base not wanting something you shoved down our throats. Is that listening to your player base? Did the CU do everything it was suppose to? I do think the CU promotes grouping however it did not fix the balancing issues. Most people believe this was a better game pre CU and yes i am one of them. The only way to fix this game is to have developers that play this game, that love star wars, who pvp and pve, and who listen to there player base and communicate with them. You can not understand how we feel or begin to understand the problems in this game if you do not play this game . Only then will the devs fully understand the problems and the disappointment we players feel.
3a) The forums
There maybe one of these but hell I really do not know. There should be a forum where the player base can post ideas for SWG. The forum would be moderated and read frequently with posts that are off topic, flames, or in a format that is unreadable deleted. This way the posts that stay are easy to under stand and read. It should be required, that at least once a week a few people from the dev team should sit at a computer and read this forum, with a dev responding from time to time would be nice. I have read some great posts full of ideas from the player base on the forums. There should also be a sub forum where players can chat about these new ideas.3b) The House of common chats
It seems to me that we only have these chats when there is an expansion or a major change to the game. I feel it maybe very constructive to have these HOC chats once a month or once every two months. In these chats we could talk about the state of the game and game breaking issues. This would be a major step in the communication problem we have, and I believe it would help build a much needed relationship between the player base and the dev’s
4) JEDI
Is it intended to destroy and grief the people who have this profession? Is it fair that they can not obtain premium or flawless pearls or crystals? That the speed bug still hasn’t been fixed? That dam near every weapon in game has better damage than a saber? That saber sac cost is highest of all weapons? That a skill that has root is more powerful than the force? That every 10 minutes a BH comes for you, and if you die you lose mass xp. With all the bugs and issues, JEDI has I would say fair it is not.
4a) The second slot
Since the beginning when you unlock JEDI you receive a 2nd char. At first I thought this was great. The amount of credits you needed was insane. Buying good resource to make sabers, the amount of armor you used grinding, the pearls you needed to loot or buy because of decay. Those days are gone thanks to ADK’s and no more armor. So I think we have come to a point where there should be no 2nd char. This may help a little with population control if people have to decide to give up there businesses or the skills they have had for so long to start fresh. I feel if you need a second character go buy another copy and pay another $15 a month. As it is, it is to easy to obtain JEDI I say make the choice a bit harder by getting rid of the second character slot.
4b)The Village
In the beginning we had no idea what the path was and it made it that much more exciting. Then with the Christmas holocron’s the cat was out of the bag. Businesses disappeared the economy went down hill and many crafter’s vanished. That was when the game started to take the wrong turn. Since then it has continually gotten worse. I always wanted to be a JEDI and I unlocked in Jan 04 and I was thrilled and excited. So I understand that everyone wants the chance and should have it. However with the introduction of the village the JEDI population has got out of control. With the terrible idea of respecs for 2 weeks instead of testing on TC2 like pub 9, JEDI went from padawan to knight in 2 weeks. With the CU the grind is incredibly easy. I believe the village needs to be shut down. The quest ideas are great, but way to easy as they are now.
4c) The force sensitive quest
It is my opinion that the village should be removed. The path to jedi should begin with a quest from an npc's like it is in the village. These npc’s should spawns at random points, and is never at the same spot more than 20 min at a time. Also the npc will never spawn in the same spot more than 10 times a month.
When a player has completed a cycle the next cycle should take place on a different planet. This will make it more difficult to start on the path to jedi but not impossible. It will also help control the numbers of up and coming JEDI.
4d) The jedi's role in the galactic civil war
It has been said many times by many different players. Jedi should have there own faction light and dark. When you become a padawan it is then you decide if you will be a light or dark jedi. Once the decision is made you will always con red to the apposing faction. The path to jedi should not be an easy one, and the journey should be one filled with excitement and danger. Once you reach the level of knight you can decide to help a faction, but not before your knight trials are complete. Give jedi there own faction and be on permanent war mode against each other. This may help keep JEDI out of sight.
4e) JEDI visibility, master apprentice, and xp loss
Jedi should be whispered about rarely seen. it is a dangerous time for those that can touch the force.
Keep the ability for jedi to join jedi groups without visability, but only jedi groups. If a nonjedi joins the group then every jedi in the groups gets visability. If a jedi has there saber equipt or robe on "say in theed" they get vis. This would stop the jedi from showing off and hopefully keep them somewhat out of sight.
It has been said many times modify the marriage ability in game so that a knight may offer a padawan braid to a young jedi. each young jedi who grinds with a master will get a bonus to there xp and the master will get FR xp.
When a jedi dies by a BH, pvp, or grinding they recieve some xp loss like they used to. Remember this path was never suppose to be easy or finished in 1 month. Lets slow down how fast jedi go from padawan to knight give xp loss on any death and you will see a drop in jedi running around.
5) STOP THE E-BAY JEDI.
It is against the the SOE policy to sell your char so stop it it is not hard to findout who is doing it hirer someone to search ebay find who is selling jedi, credits, pearls, ect and ban them period. Not good for the jedi numbers and the economy in game.
6)Jump to Light speed, player cities, and lifeless cities.
1) the biggest problem i have with JTL is that it totally killed all the socializing at the starports. People made new friends and met new people had duels and socialized. The fix?
A) charge a fee to land at any starport.
B) make it so you must be factionally alligned to land at a chosen star port, If you are not factionally alligned then you must travel through public transportation. It may be a pain in the @$$, but it will make star ports usefull again.
C) The amount of player cities on each planet is to high. it clusters up the land scape and causes lag. Reduce the numbers and let the strong player cities expand. Let factionally alligned player cities who choose to have a stronghold and can reach the rank of say lvl 5 (100 residents) have a base with a star port built into it and only factionlly alligned overt players land at it.
D) I think a good idea for npc cities is to grant the ability for a master merchent to place a tent in the npc cities like theed or coronet. It would breath life back in to these planets that are now deserted if players could just go to there favorite crafter's shop in a major city and would make being a merch desirable.
E) Also the key char in the Star Wars saga need to get out more. It is awsome when we see a main char out and about doing something it adds a star wars fell. how about vader attacking show off jedi? Or Luke, Han, and Chewy landing in theed and battling the empire would be awesome.
7) Priorities
It is my belief that the dev’s need to set priorities and do this quickly.
A) No more expansions should be planned or built until issues are fixed.
B) I think visibility should be turned of until some of the JEDI issues can be resolved
C) I think smugglers should get there revamp
D) the GCW should be revamped
E) Major bugs fixed
F) look at going back to pre cu. ( never happen but worth a try lol)
G) communicate, communicate, communicate with the player base. We should see devs posting at least every 2 weeks.
conclusion
There are alot better and more ideas out there. I wrote this because after playing for more than 2 years i see this once great game slipping. SOE has the ability to make the greatest story ever told into the greatest game ever made. Unless we work as a unified team and communicate, galaxies will fail and just be a shadow of it's former self if at all. Help us Soe and we will help and support you
Would like to hear some feed back of what you all think, and would love to hear some feed back from Tiggs or members of the team.
