Thread: Learned skills transfer

I always felt if you grinded out a box you have essentially learned the box. The only limitations of what boxes you could have active at once would be the 250 skill points. So if you group out every box in the 5 Jedi disaplies over the course of time you could always readjust what skills you could use without grinding more. Then on some days you could have one template to play support with, or another day if you needed to be like a tank you could readjust your skills again to other boxes you had learned without having to grind the same box again. Be like a respec to learned skills only. What do folk think of this? I mastered 32 professions so far. The respec was a nice time in the CU when I could go back and have fun with my character.

How can you say you've lived life if you've never danced?
Well I do remember Han having a one piece suit made out of carbonite but it weighed a ton. Still it didnt require any ironing and was very wear resistant.
Thanks SOE! The CU and NGE gave me my life back. Thanks! Bitterness is the taste of love lost, a tear of acid that burns the heart.
Long gone, in sorrow of song. Stand I make to deliver hope with twisted temporal past, for the ripples in time distort what affects when. Prowlies a must see Clicky!
As a dreamer I sing to the sea and imagine the possibilities and potential this game could free, but when I get home a sad sight there be. A lost fool, for once was is gone, what could've been to never be, and the angel of my heart to be forgotten, locked away by the key of SOE.

While I think this is a nice idea, SOE would never go for it as they want you to spend countless hours grinding your way through different templates and trying things out. Sure if you've done it all before you'd think that there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to switch it up (maybe once a week or something) but that goes against the entire style of this game and will never happen

Its been a long year...

I gotta say no. One of the best features of this game is the robust crafting system that allows people to specialize in being crafters. What good would that be if you could suddenly change your template when you needed food? If i grind out chef, tailor, armorsmith, weaponsmith, etc, then I choose any template whenever I want, then if I need something, I can simple *poof* forget all my fighting skills whip up some desert? I don't think so.

Skillpoints are like "muscle memory". When you do something for a while, you do it instinctively. Sure, you may have been a chef at one time, but if you go off and spend a few years fighting and not cooking, you're not going to be able to go back home and be able to cook as well as you could when you left.

In the end, a better idea would be to make it such that once you mastered a profession, the XP requirements for the boxes in those professions would be cut in half. That way you still have to do work, but you can get those skills back slightly easier. The system your propose is rife with opportunites for abuse and it's just not good for the game.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Well I sorta meant just for the Jedi disiplines only for the learned skills transfer. Not in the regular professions, just was using the CU respec for example, but applied only to Jedi skills, and not to any box you had not learned in the past through grinding. Make having jedi skills cost so much more than any other professions more worthwhile

Again, you should never simply be able to switch back and forth. There's no real reason for it. You want to change your skills, you should work for it, like everybody else. It's just way too open to exploitation and abuse. If we're in the middle of a fight, should I be able to just switch skills to get cloak and hide? You have to think of all the potential implications. It just isn't needed.

Just be glad that we have a system where you can change your professions to begin with. Most MMO's force you to create a new toon if you want to try another option. SWG's system is perfect as-is, it's not really a good idea to give some people unlimited respecs. No matter how you do it, you'll be be getting something for nothing, while other people have to work to change their template.

I completely agree.

Given the constant nerf-fest, it is all the more necessary since we have to change our templates every six weeks.

The only thing that attracted me to Matrix Online was the way you could re-spec to skills you already learned. For the veteran players, this system would keep the game interesting.

I don't quite get why there are so many negative posts on this so far...I guess most people really love to grind...but not I. I don't believe in retaking ground I already captured once.

what if that ground has been captured by somebody else while you moved on? Would you re-capture it then? The reason that there are negative posts is because a lot of people realize that respecs and the ability to grab whatever skills you want when you wanted them makes for a very bad game. Working for what you want is important.

Again, I think a system that dropped the XP requirements after you get a skill to half of what it was would be better. You still have to do work, but at least you're able to make life easier on yourself. It's more realistic and more balanced.
