Thread: Don't you find it funny that SWG says they passed 1 million subscribers?

Is anyone fooled into thinking this means they have 1 million players?

I mean seriously who thinks this means the game is good?

I know of guilds that will never be in danger of deletion because of all the inactive players.

I have to laugh at this since I have a completely new list of friends in the year and a half I've been playing.

That doesn't mean they didn't sell a million copies of SWG.

not really on topic for this forum, but they said they sold over 1 mil boxes, which they did....and every box requires a subscription for a minimum of one month (which you can cancel) to be purchased in advance, before you start your free month that comes in the box.

they have about 200k subscribers, whereas wow has around 2 million....it's sad....SW has much greater potential as an intellectual property, it's just this game was broken and underfunded from the beginning, they were more concerned with basic functionality and an early release then quality control and providing an experience that would realize that kind of potential....I believe the fact that SOE is more concerned with EQ (in house IP that they don't pay licensing on)plays a factor as well...they sort of use SWG as a tool to recruit EQ'rs

This makes sense, they use the SW movies to pull in gamers to SWG and get a taste of what a working MMORPG could be like, so they eventually test out EQ2 when SOE offers cross game subscriptions.

Agree. Pre Jedi days, first year of release. 400k plus subscribers. Soon after Holo days, Jedi popping left and right.. SOE loses half their subscribers.to what you say, 200k.You do the numbers. Now you know why they are back to focusing on the original professions....Creature Handler, Squad Leader, Ranger...and leaving Jedi in the back row.

yeah they have about 200k to 250k subscribers wich isent to bad considering they all pay 15us dollars a month wich is 3750000 dollars each month

then subtract the saliries of the dev teams and staff around 40persons i think then the rent of the links for the servers and maintance and location rent

so they still turn a profit on this game thats for sure so game is still pretty safe from beeing axed down...

Considering I've heard from more than one source that they count each gamecard sold as a unit, I'd say their methods of counting are pretty biased.

They topped out at about 350k. That's when they stopped reporting numbers, and if they'd still been growing there'd have been no reason to stop publicising this information. Now, don't go blaming the holo days and jedi entirely for those losses. Without holos and the carrot dangling the subscription numbers would have been even lower. There wasn'tanything else to do.

There's something in economics I will never understand... Imagine, if they would announce turning back to original combat system, 3 free new planets completely connected with the rest of the game and say 5 new dungeons on old planets... I think they would hit 1mil active sunscribers immideately, because almost everybody who left would come back...For some reason they don't do it...
