Because elemental damage makes it seem alot more like a fantasy game instead of Star Wars, duh.... Ice Rifles and Acid Swords FTW.
Seriously, I agree with the OP, why all the DIFFERENT elemental types when nothing has strengths or weaknesses any longer? I remember the good old days as a rifleman where I damn well always had an energy, heat, stunand acid based rifle on me. Fighting Elders with the T21 and a protector shows up with 100% Energy resists and you were in a world of trouble if you didn't adapt to the situation and pull out a DXR-6b as the Protectors had like 35% resist to acid. And you definitely knew to boogie on out if you ran up against an Elder with a stun baton and you did not have stun resist armor on. You could also take a Juvie out with a goodJawa Ion 20% faster than a T21 as they had like 10% resist to stun. The elemental damage types used to give you a tactical advantage depending on the situation. Now they should just have "bonus" damages in lieu of elemental as the individual elements have no point.
