Thread: A possible Jedi Revamp

I'd like to see a major change in how the jedi profession works. I'd especially like to see it be more in line with the way powers interact in actual starwars movies and such.

For example.

When you finish your fs grind, you unlock your first jedi skill set. The first skill setmust be the lightsaber tree. Youwill thengrind all of the lightsaber trees and master lightsabers to proceed, but to obtain master lightsaber you should have to endure a difficult set of quests to earn the title of master lightsaber weilder and to move on in your jedi profession. By now, based on how you interacted with npcs to master the lightsaber profession your light side / dark side affiliation will be set.

The following skill sets you unlock from nowonare specific to the light / darks side affiliation you have chosen. For example, light side force powers wont have lightening, but instead a comparable tactic that still makes the skill set valueable. Dark side healing tree shouldnt be a healing tree at all, but instead it would be a sap and drain tree, and so on. Even the defender tree should have some basic differences that cator to the light or dark side of the force. Unlocking a skill set commits you to that tree until you master it, you could surrender the skill set you unlocked and have to return to unlock it again, but you many not unlock (or undergo trials) for more than one skill set at a time.

If you want to change from light to dark side you may manually choose to do so and will be forced to surrender all jedi skills you have aquired except for the lightsaber tree that is the basic skill set for light and dark jedi alike.

To unlock another jedi tree you will have to undergo another set of qualifying quests. These quests are specific to the jedi tree that you intend to unlock, but vary in difficulty based on how potentially powerful the skill set is, andnpc combat lvls would increase based on how powerful of a jedi you are, but you still get to choose the next set of skills you will unlock.Further, unlocking dark side force powers immediately after you mastered the lightsaber tree should be impossibly difficult. Light side healing might also be the same level of potential power so it could be extremely difficult as well.

Once you unlock the skill set you may grind its skills and at the end of the set you will have to undergo another set of quests that will qualify you for the master of that skill set. These quests should be long, hard, time consuming and make master of a jedi skill set an accomplishment in itself. These quests should be solo quests, no one else may aid you in the trials of becoming a jedi. You should be able to eventually unlock all of the jedi skills and become a master jedi only by mastering all of the skills. (ieFRS only at or near master jedi) I also believe you should not have to surrender skills to accomplish this. After you have mastered all of your second tree, every skill point should be in the jedi profession and further skills cost 0 skill points.

This type of grinding would continue and allow you to master all of the jedi trees in theory. But the farther you are toward becoming master jedi, the harder and longer the quests will be to unlock your next skill set. (ie 10 sith camps with 10 lvl 90 sith near the end or 5 sith camps with 5 lvl 80s near the begining)

Interaction of jedi needs to be reworked as well. Light jedi can duel each other, but cant db, and may join with any other light sidejedi in groups. Dark jedi may duel and db each other without consent from the opponent, and may only group with the dark jedi that is either their master or perhaps in their guild. Ungrouped dark side jedi will automatically be over to each other. Light and dark jedi can never be in the same group. Dark jedi may overtly attack a light jedi, but a light jedi would have to challenge to a duel. Any jedi combating another jedi creates enoughvisibility to immediatelybe put on the bh termsso the mayhem doesnt go totally unchecked, but nontheless light and dark jedi will fight each other. Master Bounty Hunters taking marks for jedi with more skill trees unlocked should be able to group with another masterbounty hunter (even if thesecond doesnt have the bounty) and attack the target. MBH could only attack a jedipadawan (working on lightsaber, or lightsaber +1 other skill tree) by themself, the bh should win that battle anyway.

Interaction of jedi skills need to change as well. A master light saber alone should have no chance against a dark master jedi. As the novice jedi becomes a stronger jedi he would be better able to defend himself and attack back. For example a master lightsaber with master defender light side jedi should be able to deflect some of the incomming damage from a master dark jedi's lightening attack. The master jedi and master dark jedi should almost have to resort back to using a lightsaber to deal significant damage to each other. This is the way of the force, someone with the knowledge of the force counteracts a strong force attack, and the powers are reduced to near uslessness when fighting a equal jedi of the opposite faction. Lightsabers would have to settle the issue in such a senario.

Jedi fighting npc should have a significant advantage, unless the npc isfs as well, the same interaction basics should apply. If a Night Sister Queen has force lightening capabilites and you are only a lightsaber wielder, you should get torn to pieces by her.

You could break the jedi trees down and makes quests as much a part of the game as you desire, you could make a quest to qualify for any 4th lvl skill and a long grueling "jedi trial" to master the skill as a final test.

The intent is to make jedi not just a grinding profession, slow the progression of jedi down and make a master jedi an actual master jedi, not just a 1-2 skill master at best.

Please feel free to comment and suggest any ideas you may have.

For me I have been done grinding my Jedi since Christmas of last year. What your asking for will never happen.

Do you think the rest of the game would sit still for yet another Jedi Revamp? There are a lot of profs far more needing of the dev's attention than ours. We don't need a revamp. Some bug fixes and balance tweaks? Yes. A revamp? No.

The SWG Forums. You will never find a more wretched hive of
catassery and buttmonkeyism. We must be cautious.

What they NEED to do is set things right. SOE had Jedi right the first time and they went and changed it.
