Thread: Business Logic: Starter Kit rumours made simple and starting character rumours stomped
The "Starter Kit" is LucasArt's product.
It's the same as SWG, except the producer logo is changed from SOE to LucasArts.
This means it's produced/manufactured by LucasArts, not Sony.
New manufacturer, new boxart.
The only thing this means is that LA is taking over the production, which may either be bad or good for the game. (LucasArts are known for rushing everything).
The infamous description on Amazon is an error. It's simply the features ofKnights of the Old Republic II. Read them both and compare.
About the rumour about Jedi as "Starter Profession"
Aurilia Village is designed to glue a player to the game for at least 4,5 months so that a new player may unlock their Jedi in about 5 months. The path to go Jedi begins at the very tutorial of the game. This is simply a marketing tactic. It means an extra $75 per sold account, which only needs the village and mission terminals to work to keep people to pay for the game. Having grinded a Jedi account also means people are more likely to stay.
This part will never be cheapened down or made impossible, as it's how SWG prints money. Be sure that the ability to grind a Jedi will always be fixed before everything else, as it's the main source of SoE's income (later LucasArts). And it will never take less time than intended (5-6 months at minimum).

If they get some hardworking developers. I'm game
That's what you get if you save funds for the custom service department.

personally i'd care more about the customer service then i do with the developers. do the devs need to fix this game? hells yeah but they really need to get some good CSR's cause jesus just communicating with one is hard let alone getting one to help you.
Untrained support techniquans are cheap, and considering the Star Wars license prints money for itself you do not need to waste alot of money on upkeep/maintenance.
Just to throw a spanner in the works and clarify:
LA Logo is the ONLY Logo on the front of the original box and the total experience box. SOE logo is on the back. Since the box art displayed on Amazon only shows the front, your theory about Lucas taking on the production is very inconclusive.
