Thread: Don't Delete your pearls/crystals with bad tunes

The way Tiggs sounded I wouldn't be suprised if there is a pearl/crystal reset coming with the expansion.

Prior to patch 9 all pearls/crystals had values that were visible to a Jedi as soon as the item was looted. In patch 9 all of the values on our pearls/crystals were reset and they were rated as "Select". All of these had to then be tuned to see what the stats were.

If there is another reset coming I suggest that you craft as many 4th generation sabers as you need, using the lowest quality resources you can, and then store all of your unused pearls/crystals in these sabers and place them in your bank.

Not true. In publish 9, the ratings of all the pearls and crystals you had were decided by the quality of the saber they were in. If you had a really nice saber, they would all have been premiums. If you had a crappy saber, they would have been poor.

You are missing one HUGE fact. Sabers used the pearls as a crafting component back then. Now pearls are added to the saber like a power up.

All pearls and crystals that were crafted into a saber had their conversion quality based on the damage of the saber they were pulled from.

All pearls and crystals that were not crafted into sabers were turned into "select" rated pearls/crystals at patch 9. I know because I had over 100 of them sitting in back packs when the patch went live.

I had all my pearls in sabers. But they turned out very good, so I can't complain.

I know why you'd tell people to store them in sabers (to save space). But the safer bet would be to keep them seperate, just like you did to get them turned into selects. But either way, if they do what Tiggs is talking about (which makes no sense), they would still not be as good as the best ones you have now.

Honestly, I really don't see them doing anything to existing pearls. The only reason pearls were "converted" in Pub 9 was because they were part of the saber back then, like you mentioned. With them being removable from sabers now, there's no need to do anything like that.

What Tiggs is talking about is they have this stuff set up in crappy little tables. For example:

Level 1 Pearl drops from lvl 0-20 critters

Lvl 2 from 21-40

Lvl 3 from 41-60

And so on...

The problem comes at the end of the loot table. The level of premium pearls is jacked up so high under the new system that you need something like a level 200 creature to drop a premium (that's why DJK's and DJM's dropped them until their levels were lowered).

Now what Tiggs is saying is that they can lower the level of a premium to say, lvl 5, to drop from lvl 81-100 or whatever. But that means that pearls that are already at level 5 are now suddenly getting better stats, because their chance to get a nice tune is dependent upon their level. So what they would need to do now is to go back through and lower the levels of all pearls, which would be a huge nerf, and everyone would start crying that their existing crap got nerfed. They are smart not to do this. But they shouldn't have to.

Easiest solution is to not mess with the level of the actual pearls at all. Just bump up the level of whatever creature they want to drop premiums to a high enough level to drop your precious pearls. Like a lvl 250 Ancient Krayt. They could even jack with the drop rates to make them as rare, or as common as they wanted. Notto mention spawn rates. It's the simplest solution, it's exactly how it was working before the CU hit live, when they were level 334 (or whatever it was)and dropping premiums on TC. And it's no different than the DJK's and DJM's that were 200+ dropping prem crystals.

It's not a tough issue to deal with. For some reason, they just don't want to give you guys prem pearls. That's the only reason I can think of, because it wouldn't take any time at all to bump the Ancients back up to a high level. Their difficulty would go up because of their level, and so would their loot. It's no more difficult than going into their little program and putting a "2" in front of that particular creatures level. They changed the level of tons of creatures since the CU, it's not a huge process. They just hate you guys.

I was refering to the post she made further down in the thread. Read below, especially the last line.

I have been reading this thread on and off today. It seems the most common questions asked are when will Premium Pearls be back and what happens with those already existing on the Galaxies... We will bring Premium Pearls back into the game once we figure out a favorable implementation of these special items. There is not a specific ETA for this change and all players that have old Premium Pearls will get to keep them in the interim.

Or they could do like BH boss targets, put in a new Krayt with the pearls in its and only its loot table
make it so it would take a full group to kill
make it a quest based hunt

This is wrong - it would not nerf any existing pearl. If they scaled down the possible range from lets say lvl 1 to lvl 600 down to 1 / 120, and they would adjust the tuning probability distribution accordingly, and then scale down existing pearls by the same amount (lvl 600 to lvl 120, lvl 1 stays lvl 1, lvl 300 to lvl 60 and so on), existing pearls would not be nerfed - they would keep their tuning probability.
Commenting on the remainder of your post:
Yes, the "technical difficulty" or "level increase of existing pearls" is an excuse because they dont want to give the real reason.
The reason can be one of two in my opinion:
a) They dont want to dedicate the resources currently
- they might not have the resources available
- they might view it as wasted effort because a new saber crafting system will be introduced anyway
b) They dont want post-CU Jedi to be as strong as pre-CU Jedi currently and plan on nerfing pre-CU Jedi soon.

Right, but that's not what she's saying. She didn't even mention adjusting the pearls, she just said that existing peals would all be high level (because none of them got adjusted).

They could divide all the levels by a factor of five like you are talking about, but my guess is that it's not that simple. The way things are coded in this game, things tie into each other that shouldn't. That's why when they fix things like the way your armor looks, all of a sudden Theed disappears off the map.

The simplest way can be done, because it was already on both TC and live. Higher level critters and NPC's give the prem pearls. They just need to make something high enough level to drop them, it's very simple. So like you say, the real reason is not being stated...which is probably a bad thing.

Yeah, I can see what you're getting at. I just think you're reading too much into it. Just my opinion though.

I just see her as saying that while nobody can loot prem pearls at the moment, they aren't taking the old ones we already have away from us. Even if they do end up changing the entire system, I'd guess that a crappy pearl will always be a crappy pearl. But if you have the room to stash them away, there's no harm in keeping them around of course.I mean, they could always do something stupid and turn every one into a select. But they coudln't be that stupid, could they?

The foundation of the issue here is that the way offences/defences are coded post CU. Pre CU, a high CL boss (such as a NS elder) was maybe CL300....but because her attacks/defences weren't tied to CL, it was possible to fight her. Post CU, she'd be taking hits of about 60 damage from a rifleman, and dishing out hits of about 20,000 points...no fun at all to fight.

The reason these high CL mobs were removed was because it was a pointless fight, unless you were a MDEF being fed force, or a group of ranged guys with roots; it made no sense. So removing them made the game more believable, but removed the only possible source of premiums. If they were reintroduced now, they would be everywhere. Stuff is a lot easier to solo right now, either with a jedi, pistoleer, BH, whatever. I'd rather they wait and reintroduce them properly rather than muck it up and have premiums all over the servers.

That is the point of this thread.

Their is a history here, and those that choose not to learn from history are destined to repeat it.

My position is that it is better to be safe than sorry. It will only take a small amount of time to prep and save the pearls you do not use in your saber.

Think of the people that chose not to hunt dragons pre CU because they were so abundant. Hind sight is always 20/20.

I think prems should be available like they were pre-CU. BH loot drops can 188 -8 SAC powercells which make a dmg and SAC capped weapon.
Meanwhile most new Jedi are taking defender out of the need to survive.

If everyone can damage cap their weapons then Jedi should be able to also.
