Thread: After watching Episode III........

The other day while reading the forums from my server as well as some other boards fromvarious professions,I came to a realization about something. (*Warning* Incoming spoiler if you haven't seen Ep. III) Has anyone ever thought about how the entire galaxy must have felt about Jedi after Palpaltine's rousing speech to the senate? I get the impression that most everyone out there would have hated the Jedi after hearing Palpaltine's version of the Jedi. Now, has anyone noticed a similar parallel to this game? It seems that not a day goes by that someone isn't making an anti-Jedi thread on just about any board you go to. I'm not trying to start a flame-fest or anything, but I just find it amazing/amusing how quickly all the Jedi have fallen from the SWG public's favor in barely over a year. I think that if the Devs have gotten anything with this game right, (storyline, that is) they have succeeded in making the real SWG's players feelings towards Jedi resemble the opinions of everyone in the Star Wars Universe during the timeframe that we are supposed to be in.
Jedi fell out of favor with most of the public when people realized they couldn't be one without a lot of work (Nov/Dec 03 ?). Of course it got worse the moment the Devs threw full templates overt 24/7 and told them to go kill everyone. I believe that was the turning point in this profession, the day Jedi became a thorn in everyone's back in regular PvP since they were overt 24/7.
I seem to remember when the FRS was launched so was the campaign of hatred in the GCW.

Its because there are so many Jedi now in game which has made a lot of players hate the profession. But truthfully it is the goal of most players to eventually become a Jedi as swg has made it the ultimate profession and swg will continue to look at the Jedi profession more then any other. Thats why I have faith that Healer and Powers will some day be modified to make then more attractive to have masteries of.
I agree totally. I'll also admit I can see both sides of the argument and how many people think that Jedi off-balance the GCW, but I find it pretty ironic that so many people complain about Jedi but are also working towardsgetting their ownat the same time.
Thats the path to Jedi....
Hate the profession (jedi)with every dying breath until you unlock, hate on every BH tactic used on you till full template, and finally hate on Jedi again, seeing as they are still owning you.
Rot away on the forums henceforth waiting for change....

LOL, again, I agree totally. I am a fairly new Jedi and am enjoying it. But, you would not believe (I'm sure some of you Jedi would though) how many tells I get from people saying "I'm telling a BH friend about you", or "Put your saber away you stupid F***ing Jedi". It was hard to believe the first week I unlocked, how many hate tells I recieved from people I didn't even know simply because I forgot to turn off Force Run or something when I came up on other players....... Unbelievable! Never once have I tried to make someone else's gameplay experience unenjoyable, let alone just by the profession I chose!
actually the original lead dev's plan was to turn part of the population against itself. he's stated as much in interviews awhile ago. stating that it made managing the game much easier and alloud players to create their own content.
this hatred has been growing for along while in the game, it just became hotter and moreobvious when they put jedi into the pvp arena 24/7 and eliminated the vast majority of nonjedi from that realm of play as they could not compete.
Having said that...
The Jedi were also feared and respected because of the power they wielded. That's something we do NOT share. Feared because of the level of power they had, and respected because of the way they wielded it (mostly). Nobody really fears a Jedi in this game, we've been nerfed so badly. Nobody really respects us either. And why should they? The first thing people think of when they think of Jedi in SWG is the uber-l33t PKers outside Theed, ruining everyone's GCW. Absolutely no parallel to the movies or canon at all.
I say, with the exception of permadeath, put things back the way they were pre-publish 9, in terms of power level and skill trees. And provide a reason for fully-templated Jedi to want to stay alive. Nothing major, but something to make a Knight think, gee, dying's not something I really want to risk unless I have to.

Very good thought! And you are right. Quite by accident, the devs made everyone hate us. And, according to canon, everyone SHOULD hate us. The Dark Side blinds the entire galaxy. You SHOULD have gotten the responses you did when you were holding your lightsaber, or wearing your robes. The Jedi were one of the most hated things in the galaxy at this time, and it's nice that the devs have managed to make that happen.

Again, I agree with your post and I think you hit the nail on the head. I think another big reason that no one repects/admires/fears Jedi in this game anymore is because of the numerous nerfs Jedi have recieved as a whole and the population explosion that Jedi have had. The first time I met a Jedi in SWG, I was in awe. But now it seems that I am ridiculed because of the profession that I chose. I am not whining, just making an observation to support my point. (I could really care less because I am going to play the game, and profession, that I chose as long as I enjoy it.)
