Thread: Melee vs Ranged PvP from TC-Corbantis
TC-CORBANTIS TESTING FACTS:
Many of the posters in thisforum are going off assumptions (both pos and neg)that they themselves have not tested. I am posting now to clarify and convey what experiences I have had while playing on my jedi character (I am sorry for those not jedi or do not plan to be they took the Corb server off when I was going to test other professions).
- In Terms of PvE, the NGE can be moderatly enjoyable. It takes alot more preparation to solo level 82 stormtrooper/rebel trooper missions. It takes use of tactics and smarts now, the first time I rushed in like usual and got incapped. The first night there was a big inbalance with PvE, a level 50 ST incapped AND killed me in theed in about 8 seconds. Please also note your Health is now at 10k. Thats a lot of damage to deal in order to kill me. Also, the AI on the NPCs now kite like players do so you have to chase them down in order to kill them while they are still hitting you. This shouldn't be a huge issue, but as it stands it is (will elaborate below).
- Now, in terms of PvP I wanted to test the viabilities in Melee Vs Melee, Melee Vs Ranged and Ranged Vs Ranged. I watched and participated in many duels. I would say my testing had me involved in over 15 different duels (alot of rematches) and witnessed around 10 different duels. I will elaborate in each category:
M v M
The underlying theme seemed to be that the duels would be quick compared to current CU standards. However, since for melee players the "click and hold" feature was/is not working it indeed came down to the players who had the highest "twitch" reflexes to win. Also, used on me and also used by me when someone would be getting close to incap they would just start to run in a snake/circle motion and just run around while healing up. Those who have faster systems (duels were in theed) were the ones to abuse this and would always come out on top. For the most part aside from the broken abilities the duels were fairly even.
Standard Tactic: Stand ground and fight, the person losing will begin to run around to heal. Repeat until someone messes up.
R v M
Now, this is the biggest issue. Not once did I see any ranged person lose to amelee warrior. Even jedi who used ranged weapons won against other jedi for the plain fact that the jedi just could not hit them. Most if not all of the jedi specials require you to be placed and not moving to execute (negates force choke which is the snare). Add to that the fact that jedi do not have a root and the saber block ability last for around 30 seconds but has a minute cooldown, a jedi can be beaten in 10 seconds time. I shrugged off the first couple battles as me not knowing the new system that well, but the more I dueled the better I became. The ONLY thing I managed to do was prolong my death, but it was so sad that the ranged guys started to give up on wearing any armor. A naked BH took out EVERYONE he dueled once he became confident in his abilities. The only people who were really pleased were those who wanted an "I win button."
Standard Tactic: Ranged begins to run back (kite), targets melee, and lays down constant attack while periodically healing.
R v R
Lastly, I observed many ranged duels. These are where armor actually came into play. It came down to the better targetting/specials and weapons. There was no definate "domination" class. If I was a ranged player I would be very pleased with the amped ranged abilites the NGE is giving me.
Standard Tactic: Run to optimum range and strafe until opponent begins to run and then finish them off.
Final Thought
First off, sorry about the yellow. It helps me read better. Secondly, unless there is some inherit benefit for a melee class to fight a range my suggestion would be just to run away. The PvP will be alright for ranged, but for those who wish to remain a melee fighter they are better off being a PvE player.
