Thread: Need Advice From Successful x4xx ENH Tanks

Hi all,
Most of the time when I am having issues with my build I can come on here do a search and find some advice on what I am doing wrong or what I may need to counter an issue. Well this latest one is still a big obstacle for me to figure out and that's Force management when using Force Armor.

My question for you x4xx Enhancers who tank lairs for friends or whatever. Is there a way to do it successfully without Force being severely low by the time the lair ends? Defensively with Aura and foods, the damage of the mobs aren't bad, but with the constant onslaught of bite after bite I find myself in some sort of channel battle towards the end of it resulting in a long downtime between lairs.

I know Mdef are the kings of tanking, being that they can fly from lair to lair with having to fully regen the Force loss but any advice would help. Are you only throwing up armor when times get desparate? Do you keep it on the whole time and Channel sparingly from the start? Or is there something I am missing? Thanks in advance.

x4xx enhancers dont tank basically.

If you do expect to lose alot of force and probably end up dead.

I'd say it's diffuculy since Force Armor eats force as it mitigates damage. I would recommend that

-you ask your friends to use as high damage weapons as possible without overpowering you. The faster they go down, the less damage you'll take.

- Use vegespartine (spelling is wrong i'm sure). It adds 100ish of melee defense. You'll take less hits

- Synsteak is great at mitigating damage too. You'll heal less and use less force that way

- Use Aura

I'd say, keep armor on the whole time. If you don't you'll save some force from the mitigation but it'll force you to heal a lot more. If you have grinders that are looking at getting medical XP, make sure they don't use spray and that they focus on you. Spray will get them aggro and we don't want that

Other than that, since enh0400 isn't the best tank, that's the best you'll be able to do. Nothing beats a M.Def with AI for tanking, or a TK/Pike melee tank.

This happened yesterday, but alot of the groups I join lately defaults me to tank. I generate alot of aggro and most of the Mdef have done template changing and are now almost non-existent in groups. I'm hoping there is a compromise somewhere, but if I get alot of people telling me it's hopeless I'll accept it and decline the tank role from now on.

Thanks alot, you are so right on the damage output by other players. My worse lairs have been the lengthy ones due to low dps. I never knew that about healers, I will have to remind them of that. Thanks for your help.

One more night out there then I can hopefully hang up this "wannabe tank" hat I've had to wear.

As an Mls Menh i tanked pretty decently with a buff crystall, alot of heals, and high damage dealing group members.

But it still drains force like there's no tomorrow

Yes, I do it all the time for friends. have to use food, and use saber hit 2 or 3 times for every spin or dervish (depends on your saber damage). You'll be fine. As long as your saber is powerful enough to hold aggro, you'll be fine.

Hi there, i am just sharing my experiance on having enhancer 0400 and tbh i found that if you get def 4040 +fa2, you can tank better than a master defender, but it does eat your force but that can be managed with a channel macro, take some pikatta pie and pop synth steak and you can tank really really really well..

I could do tanking against Piket lairs of 80 - 82 lvl with out any problems whilst grinding..

Don't listen to everyone saying that its crap cos it really isn't but the force costs are high.

Also if your planning on just having fa2 with no defenderthen forget tanking you will be able to take a little dmg but without aura its going to be a really tough and bumpy road.

Hmm what key is the win button... ohh yea *SPAMS F1*....... WOOT I WIN...

MLS / 4404 Enh / 4000 Heal / 0040 Def

I tank pikets lairs for guildies on a daily basis on starsider. I have little or no problem as long as someone is willing to throw a heal my way every now and then. Here is the trick:

1. Craft a low FC/SAC saber (as low as you can get without sacraficing too much dmg output).

2. Make sure your group doesn't use top of the line weapons. You need decent dmg output, but you don't want them out damaging you.

3. Have a dedicated healer in the group. If he/she focuses on healing you and only AOE's every few secs, you will keep the aggro and he/she will keep you alive.

4. Eat foods and drinks that focus on actionregen and buffs primarily and mind regen and buffs secondarily. You will need them for....

5. Force channel every few attacks. If you eat the right foods, your action/mind regen can keep up with your default AOE and the channel.

Make no mistake. This will drain your force pool drastically, but I usually walk away from lvl80-81 piket lair with at least 30% force. Hope this helps.

I have Enhancer 3402 and Defender 4400 and I can tank lairs but my force bar drops like crazy, but from level 82 Pikets I can take about 110 points of damage a hit then 60 with Synthsteak or 98 with Exo-protiene. Force Armor alone is not advised to use for tanking.

Thanks for the replies. My build is MLS, 3/3/0/4 Enh, 2/0/4/0 Def and 4/0/0/0 Heal. I'm on the last leg to 3/4/04 Enh to wrap it up. My saber SaC is 96 and 48 FC without pearls but with pearls its still high at around 28. Damage isn't the best but with Dervish I never seem to lose aggro. The problem of course is the Force management.

From all of your helpful advice, I gather that I should:

- Load up on the Damage mitigating foods
- Spin first wave with the Force Armor then turn it off
- Alternate between Dervish and Saber hit instead of all Dervish like I've been doing
- Channel on occasion
- Ask for outside heals to keep me standing

Thanks alot, 3 of the above 5 were things I neglected to do before. I was Dervishing like crazy which drains me, I also kept Armor on the entire time and never bothered to ask someone else to heal me. Even though I'm about done, this advice will be helpful to pass on to people with the same questions i/g that are too shy to ask.

/tiphat
