Thread: Smedleys big plan?
Sony Online Entertainment's president John Smedley said at his keynote speech at the Austin Game Developers Conference that SOE would be releasing a subscription-free MMORPG. Much as SOE's EverQuest II partially works, their upcoming MMORPG will allow players to buy access to new zones and equipment in lieu of a monthly fee.
Smedley did not give a release window for the game, other than that they "[will] be launching this quickly."
I guess the selling of items\characters on Ebay has got Mr Smedley thinking. I think this is going to be a massive growth area in MMORPGS, buying virtual items for real money, much like credits are bought and sold now. It would be interesting to see if they try to impliment this system into this game.
