I haven't been able to log in since Pub 24 so most of what I am saying is just based on the theory of things.
The new snare changes which basically gimps all melee professions really has no "balance"...it favors the one who snares.
The "balance" between melee and ranged should be such that ranged professions get the advantage of the attack beyond 5m and pretty much toast when the melee can lay some wood on them. That's why ranged professions have the movement hinderance...so a ranged base movement speed is designed to be less than a melees. (Ok there is balance there). Now to rebalance this...ranged professions have snares and roots...which are pretty unique to their professions (I know Jedi have them too...but Jedi is really 5 diff professions)...so for a "temporary" amount of time ranged can regain the advantage and move faster than the melee fighter and re-establish distance. I think the Devs did a fine job there and it has made for some good fights. But that is where the "balance" ends.
- Snares should place the ranged at risk in order to place them. Ok...I can concede with the basic snare shot from all ranged profs should be able to be fired from their weapons normal range. But for MCM's ED? To balance the length of the duration of the snare...it should be forced that they apply the snare within the melee's range (5m)not the 10m that is required for all the de-buffs and paralyze. They should have a window of opportunity where they are vulnerable to attack. After playing ranged professions myself...I know that already there are ways to re-apply the snare without much danger to the MCM. But at least that makes for more balance.
- One possible suggestion is that while affecting a snare...there should be a damage reduction from the ranged. A snare is basically a defensive move that allows the ranged to avoid the melee's attack. If they are in a "defensive" mode...their offense should be balanced.
- Another possible suggestion is give melee a snare as well. I mean after taking out someone's knees with a PowerHammer...you'd think that they might not be able walk normally
. Of course melee snares would have shorter duration than ranged an also required that they be applied in melee range. - The most logical "balance" to snare was removed with the last publish. Which is really a lack of insight from the Devs. I agree buffs and debuffs should not stack, but to cancel out a buff with a debuff and have only the debuff apply??? I don't see any logic in that. Not everyone will have a handy-dandy SL available...especially Jedi. Does traumatize and hemorrhage cancel out food/spices/doc buffs??? No it doesn't. There is just inconsistency in your logic.
- Now consider this situation Devs: A BH/MCM finding their Jedi mark in a place with hilly terrain. I guarantee you that the BH will win every fight regardless of the template of the Jedi. (ok...maybe a MLS/MEnh would win...hehe). The terrain negotiation that EVERY BH has gives them the advantage already in movment speed. The only way that a Jedi can even stay close is to use FR. But of course MCM can cancel that out for 2 min with ED snare. So an already disadvantaged (no terrain negotiation) Jedi gets gimped even more (snare) and has his one advantage (FR) taken away. Now every minute a Jedi fights a BH he is losing because he loses force from healing since he's completely in a defensive mode (since he won't be able to get within offensive range). Now this doesn't even take into account the poor offensive output that a Jedi will be able to mount IF he happens to get within range. (duelist stance, 8000+ energy resist, AB sliced armor, synthsteak, ruby bliels to get any extra healing beyond a MCM's normal heals). Ouch...poor Jedi.
Just sit down in a conference room Devs...and have 2 comps set up...one with a nice ranged prof like BH/MCM/(fill in whatever)...and the other a mice Melee (Jedi or any melee prof). Take turns playingBOTH professions and really see how the new rules unbalance the game. I think you will see that some minor tweaking needs to be done.
