I've always though Mpowers sounded like a good time. However, I'm a reb and powers always seemed like a dark jedi skill set. If I could convince myself that Mpowers wasn't just for dark jedi I might try it . What you guys think?

That's a tough argument to make. I've thought about this before and the best scenario's I can come up with are:

1) Think of the force as presented in the latter half of the NJO series, where the force itself isn't light or dark, its the person that makes it that way. There area couple times with Jacen and (its been a while) I think Luke using force lightning. Using force lightning to attack is the same as using your saber to attack. If you are attacking for the wrong reason (i.e., out of aggression and not to defend, etc) then you're use of the force is dark. If you use the MP skills as you would a LS in order to defend and fight the good fight, it can be light.

2) Similar to 1), but based off of a LS style post I saw a week or two ago. Basically, Mace Windu's style was supposed to be pretty close to the dark side border and he channeled his anger and emotions to do good things. Using the same logic, you can say that your use of the force is for good things, etc, it is just aggressive or based upon the same principles that go into developing/perfecting the LS style Windu used.

Those are the only arguments I can think of at the moment.

The only thing sith like with powers is lighting and choke, the rest of the abilities most jedi used.

I was in the same problem you were in and I decided this. I would picture myself as a dark Jedi knight joining the alliance because the emporer has betrayed and has tried countless times to kill me.

its not the force abilities that you possess its how you weild them that determines wether you are a dark or light Jedi. Consider the video game Jedi Knight II. Kyle Katarn had lighting, choke, and other seemingly dark side abilities yet he was still on the light side of the force. Only the actions when using such abilities determined the outcome of the game. Also think of the light saber. It can be used for good or evil purposes depending on the user. A light saber is neither a dark or light ability. If if is used for attack and murder then the skills to weild it become dark. If it is used for defense and to help keep the peace then if is for the light.

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.

yeah, I've struggled with this for some time. I'm not a real serious RP, but I do like to RP my character somewhat. I'm currently MLS and dabbling in other branches. I've always thought a MLS/MP build would be great fun. Yes, I know my defense would be incredibly weak, but it sounds like a blast.

Maybe MLS/MP/3000 Heal/0002 Enh. Oh well, I was really looking for a reason to try MP w/out killing rp.

well you've been given by at least two people reasons for going MP while staying light/rebel.

the light/dark is about how you use your powers, not what powers you use.

atm, i'm 4444LS/MP/3000 enhance/2000 heal....very glass cannonesqe, but fun so far.

inROTJ, luke force chokes the gamorrean guard at jabbas palace, right when he enters. there are some who argue that it wasnt a darkside usage, since it didnt kill the guard, but there is nothing in the film to support the idea taht the guard didnt die. but if you watch it, luke force chokes him. luke even makes the little hand gesture that vader makes when he force chokes the imperial guy.

as far as offensive use of the force being evil, it is my understanding that there is force usage associated with swinging around a lightsaber effectively, so i dont see why this would be any different from any other offensive use of the force. unless you want to argue that when using a lightsaber the force does harm second-hand, whereas when unleashing force lightning it is the force doing primary damage. but this sort of legalese doesnt suit the moral absolutes of good and evil, it either is or it isnt.

having said that, maybe force choking water bugs whenever you see them, with no provocation, might be a bit evil and unbecoming the rp of a lightsider. but unleashing a blast of force lightning upon someone hell bent on killing you would hardly be evil.

oh, and im a rebel master powers.

Hmm, all very good points. And I had completely forgotten about that scene in RoTJ. I think I'll go ahead and give it a shot. I'm just a bit hesitant due to the changes to Force Cloak. I'll probably try

0404LS/MP/4000 Heal/3402 Enh

Seems like this would be a fun temp. Also, I'm going to craft sabers before I drop MLS, any idea on what a good base dps should be on a 4th gen after experimenting? Perhaps with action costs on the rise I'll balace damage and try to get my SAC cost a little lower as well.
