Yes this is a difficult one. I have started to introduce lightside / darkside points. If a system can be thought out that works i'm all for it. However the only way this can be achieved is by discussing the ideas.

This is the most difficult part. How can you ensure that a PVE jedi does not wander around the universe however they please when one of the biggest complaints in SWG remains Jedi using the force with no controls on them ?

See point above. Without proper contols how can it be that PVE Jedi remain hidden. If we can find an answer to this then PVE Jedi can have power.

However if PVE Jedi are given the same benifits as PVP Jedi who face a more extreme system (skill loss) then why should there be a PVP system ?

Could do, however then all jedi will be subject to the FRS and death. This is part of what i'm trying to find suitable /reasonable answers to. Something that would make those that want to PVP happy and those that don't want to PVP happy.

I did think of KOTOR. The Jedi has a Light / Dark side meter that keeps tracks of your points.

Should the council exist in the game as we percieve it ? or could there be an alternative suggestion ?

I will collect everything in a single reply instead of cutting it up. I should probably move this to another thread instead of talking off-topic here since there's more to your post than just the war between light/dark.

A Jedi can be seen as a veteran player that knows the game. With great power comes great responsibilities, and I believe that a Light Jedi should be rewarded with greater power if they can prove they deserve it, also accepting that she might have enemies that sometimes have to be dealt with. I believe that someone who are not interested to participate in fulfilling their responsibilites should not be able to progress from knight upward, at least not at the light path.

As a veteran Light Jedi player who wish to progress their character, they need to set examples and be rewarded for adding to the fun of the server. By helping new players through their first levels. By assisting aspiring artisans getting hold of their first components. By hosting player events. By boosting player cities.By generally being a good person who can earn the respect of people around her. I believe theese are the actions that should be rewarded by greater power.

A such player also need to accept that not everyone appreciate what they do. They accept that they are victims by Dark Side Jedi and Bounty Hunters. This is the life as a Jedi. Naturally, defeating a Light Jedi who earned the server's respect and earned many friends, will probably drop your own status a bit. This, ofcourse, might be what notorious Dark Jedi and Bounty Hunters want.

If you would rather earn power by killing other players, then there is the Dark Side. The Dark Side can work very much like the FRS did in the past. It's alot about showing your might in battle.

The end reward for taking the slower and ... more boring? path is that ultimately a Light Side Jedi ends up on top of a Dark Side Jedi. This is ofcourse justified with that they deserve it by taking the longer path with greater responsibilities to the community around you. The quicker path with no responsibilities will eventually betray the host, capping their power.

If you do not work for the community, or do pvp against other players, you have already taken the decision to be a pve Jedi, and then you cannot progress. You will not earn FRS experience and will stand still.
But how do you limit theese players from behaving badly? I believe the most simple solution that may have a major effect on the entire system, is to simply disable NPC's effect on a Jedi's visibility rating. A NPC is not bothered by a Jedi's behavior, only players are. Nobody cares if you are in a group of friends out in nowhere, killing NPC's. It's the Jedi who runs around in the middle of player cities that people do not like. Punishing players that are seen by playersby putting them on the terminal while rewarding players who are never seen by players. This simple act promotes Jedi who take great care to not be seen, rather than pushing them into the same consequences as everybody else.

The TEF against other Jedi can be the same. If you have visibility, then you are a target. If you have no visibility, you are not a target. A player that have been pve'ing with a group of friends out of sight from all other players, they have no visibility, so they are not victims from bounty hunters or other Jedi, but they can also not progress from there unless they actually decide to help strangers (Light) or defeat jedi (Dark).

If you want to stop and take a break from helping people out, or killing people, then this option is open for all Jedi. All you have to do is to stop yourself from being seen by other players (except your group) and you wont be hunted, but you also wont progress in the FRS.

And to answer your question, I do not think the Council needs to exist. At least not for the Light Side. An accomplishment for the Light Side is an act for the community, not for individual gain or titles. There's no competition for who do the bestlight side deeds. If you want a sign of your power more than peoples gratification, a betterand more friendly serverand finally better forcepowers for you, then the Dark Side is a better choice.

Finally I do not believe in losses of skills and experience. You do not "forget" just becouse you take drawbacks. Grinding is not a game. I believe inslowly decaying FRS experience for thoose who take a break, but that's it.

--- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

I agree with you in principle.

However in the films and books light Jedi did fight in the films etc...and like those Jedi people will want to have that choice and stay light. For example i love PVP but i dont want to be "dark" or imperial. How could my style of play be embraced while embracing your style of play ?

Another problem i forsee is that if you give Jedi back power with no consequence how can you stop them from abusing it ? you know that they will, we have seen this everywhere and there is no reason to believe it would stop. People will because they can.

Bounty hunters have not deterred people so far from going to say Theed for the night showing the old glow stick. If jedi are to be given back power, then real deterrents need to be in place. Also once full template, dying to a BH will not matter anyway as there will be nothing to lose, so in theory they could die / clone and go back to showing off the glowstick.

Don't get me wrong, i would like a system that could work like that but without real deterrents it will be abused. With abuse people will scream nerf and the cycle begins again.

I did suggest any use of the "force" generating xp, to make it less of a grind i hope.

The original question must therefore stand, how can Jedi in SWG cater for all play styles while closing loopholes for abuse and give them back power and the "oh wow i just saw a Jedi" feel ?

I feel if an answer to that can be found within the whole "life" of a jedi in SWG then it will also go along way to stiffle the complaints from the rest of the community, including Jedi.
