Thread: Jedi ( Concept) New skills / FRS / Ideas / Discussion
I found myself thinking on all the threads I have read about Jedi, ranging from the FRS, templates, the GCW, players wanting a PVE feel, players wanting a PVP feel, players wanting content, players wanting to role play and players feeling that Jedi need to remain hidden.
Here I have tried to come up with ideas that tackle all of the above while remaining true to the feel of SWG.
Please be kind to me lol, very nervous of posting this idea in case I get flamed and it’s not the intention of the post J
The ideas are not complete as I need your help.
Introduction.
The role of a Jedi in SWG needs some definition and direction. Currently the role a Jedi plays is blurred, causing confusion. The concept outlined may well have flaws but it’s hoped that by presenting it as an idea it can be refined.
The ideas I have outlined have been brought together from many sources including other star wars games, the EU and SWG itself.
The system will, hopefully allow for Jedi diversity while allowing balance in the game.
If anyone wishes to they can propose hard numbers into the concept to further develop the idea. Suggest names or move some skills about to more meaningful boxes.
Please keep discussions to the point. If you don’t like something say why and suggest what you would like to see in its place.
The FRS and Jedi
Times have changed in SWG. The idea is to allow for PVE Jedi and PVP Jedi. PVE Jedi will be balanced to that of regular professions.
PVP Jedi will gain extra skill points to spend as they gain rank in the FRS. They can play a limited role in the GCW. Only X amount of Jedi from each side on the server will be able to participate at any one time in the GCW. As Jedi logout / or are killed, then places will become available for other Jedi to join in.
In the PVP system 3 deaths and you lose a skill.
Saber / force use TEF will be re-introduced. This applies to both PVP and PVE Jedi. This is to discourage Jedi from showing off in public, you are supposed to remain hidden.
Exception to this rule is no saber / force use TEF will be generated by group members.
PVP enabled Jedi will be attackable by other Jedi / Dark Jedi.
PVE Jedi will not be attackable by other Jedi.
All Jedi will be able to be hunted by MBH.
All Jedi will be given a visibility meter to help them monitor their visibility.
No visibility will be gained from group members.
Once a Force sensitive has unlocked he / she will Gain the title initiate. Before you can do your padawan trials you must train in the basics.
Transfer force
Channel
Meditate
6 basic force use moves
6 basic Light saber moves.
These skills are considered Neutral
It will cost 5 skill points to train in Initiate.
It will cost 15 skill points to train in the basic light saber moves and force use moves, transfer force, channel and meditate.
Once you have trained the basics you will be tested (padawan trials)
It will cost 6 skill points to train in Padawan upon successful completion of the trials.
Depending on how you do the Padawan trials depends on whether you will become a Jedi or a Sith / Dark Jedi.
Upon successful completion of the trials a system message will go to all Knights of the relevant side (light / dark) A knight will then approach the Padawan and if the knight and Padawan follow the same path a master / padawan bond can be formed. Again while with his / her master the padawan can gain Xp bonuses.
XP will be gained by ANY use of the force or saber although this will be at a reduced amount to what we see now, there is no reason why you cannot advance at the current pace. It is hoped by gaining XP in this way it will make Jedi more fun to play.
There will be measures put in place to stop players from running macros or using sabers or the force in excessive ways to generate XP.
All Jedi will be able to do the Knight trials, however this is where the distinction between PVE Jedi and PVP Jedi is made. PVE Jedi will undergo the knight trials through quests. PVP Jedi will have the same trials but will also have to kill Jedi of opposing faction as well.
The PVE Jedi will not be allowed to rank past knight, nor will they be allowed access to the rare powers or any increase in skill points through rank.
If a PVE Jedi wishes to play a PVP style they will have to undergo additional trials to activate PVP status.
A PVP Jedi can if they wish opt out of the PVP system and become PVE orientated.
Light side FRS
PVP Jedi will be attackable by other Jedi in the FRS. There will be exceptions to this rule. PVP Jedi will not be able to be attacked by grouped members (saber TEF) and if they are light Jedi they will not be allowed to attack other light Jedi. For a light Jedi to gain rank he / she will need to earn FRS. It must be noted that MBH will no longer give Light side points upon death. Light side points can be gained by doing Quests and killing Dark Jedi.
You may at any time, choose to turn to the Sith in order to re-train. You will have to apprentice yourself to a sith master and train in the normal way, dropping your skills in the light side in favour of darker skills. This will show your fall to the dark side.
Dark side FRS
PVP Sith or Dark Jedi will not be attackable by group members and a Sith or Dark Jedi who share a master / Apprentice relationship will not be able to attack each other unless a challenge has been issued by the padawan for their masters place in the FRS. If the padawan fails the challenge the master can dissolve the relationship and the padawan will have to find a new master if they hope to achieve rank. It must be noted that MBH will no longer give Dark side points upon death. Doing Quests and killing Dark Jedi and Light Jedi can gain dark side points.
If you wish you can find a Jedi master and hope he can enlighten you. You will have to apprentice yourself to a Jedi master and train in the normal way, dropping your skills in the dark side in favour of lighter skills. This will show your rise to the light side
Rare Powers
PVP Jedi will be able to quest for rare hidden powers. These quests will be very difficult, as an idea they will be much harder than the deathwatch bunker. This is designed to keep these powers rare, while providing Jedi with something to strive for.
Only PVP Jedi can unlock the hidden powers, although PVE Jedi can help in the quests.
All rare force use moves will take a full force bar to use, ¾ of action, ¾ mind and half your health. To also stop misuse they will be on a 3-day timer. (Open to change)
Light Saber Construction.
20 points of lightsaber experimentation will be awarded at Initiate. A further 80 points can be gained through training in 16 boxes of saber moves. A cap of 100 light saber experimentation points through skills will be introduced. This will give you 10 points with which to experiment with.
A further 2 points will be able to be gained through skill tapes in the normal way.
To make sabers more unique, you will be able to quest / loot sub components for light sabers.

Jedi Classes
There will be 4 types of Jedi. Each type will be further split into specialisation.

Consular type 1 Dark side (need a name) defensive force use (Can choose 2 forms of defensive force use)
Consular type 2 Light side (need a name) offensive force use (Can choose 2 forms of offensive force use)
Consular type 2 Dark side (need a name) offensive force use (Can choose 2 forms of offensive force use)
Consular type 3 Light side (need a name) offensive / defensive force use (Can choose 1 forms of offensive force use, 1 form of defensive force use)

Guardian type 1 Light side (Guardian) defensive combat (Can choose 2 forms of defensive combat)
Guardian type 1 Dark side (need a name) defensive combat (Can choose 2 forms of defensive combat)
Guardian type 2 Light side (need a name) offensive combat (Can choose 2 forms of offensive combat)

Sentinels / (Dark side equivalent): -
strike a balance between the first two types, as they possess admirable combat skills with some extensive knowledge of the Force. These are often dispatched to regions across the galaxy to work as ambassadors and investigators of unusual concentrations of the Force
Sentinel type 1 Light side (Defender) defensive force use / limited defensive combat (Can choose 1.5 forms of defensive force use 1/2 form defensive combat)
Sentinel type 1 Dark side (need a name) defensive force use / limited defensive combat (Can choose 1.5 forms of defensive force use 1/2 form defensive combat)
Sentinel type 2 Light side (need a name) offensive force use / limited offensive combat (Can choose 1.5 forms of offensive force use 1/2 form offensive combat)

Sentinel type 5 Dark side (need a name) Defensive combat/ Offensive force use (Can choose 1 forms of defensive combat, 1 form of offensive force use)
Gray Jedi
Jedi who have left the Jedi Order or have been cast out of it or never joined, may be referred to as Gray Jedi. Gray Jedi have not turned to the Dark Side, rather they use both light and dark side powers and view the Force as two pieces of a whole. Gray Jedi are not subject to follow the Jedi High Council and use Dark Side powers with great discretion
Gray Jedi can take the path of Consular, Guardian or Sentinel. However they will be allowed to use light and dark skills as they see fit, so long as they conform to the template requirements.
Gray Jedi will not be allowed into the FRS nor will they be allowed to become knights.
The same rules of saber TEF and PVP apply as if they were PVE Jedi.
Gray Jedi can if they choose to, enter the force ranks in the normal way after they have picked their side and completed their knight trials.
Templates
Template styles will still vary, you will still be able to spend skill points on skills you would like, however you will be restricted to the templates above. So for example Sentinel type 5 asks for defensive combat (lightsaber) and offensive force use. The skill points will be as such that you must spend 80 points in defensive lightsaber combat and 80 points in offensive force use. This is designed to help the game in the issue of balancing all Jedi to each other as well as other regular professions.
You will by now have noticed that so far you have only spent 230 points so far.
24 skill points have been spent in force sensitive skills.
5 skill points have been spent to train in Initiate.
15 skill points to train in the basic light saber moves and force use moves, transfer force, channel and meditate.
6 skill points have been spent to train in Padawan.
160 skill points have been spent on template Jedi skills.
20 skill points (or1 line) will be free form (you can choose how you spend them, but if you have chosen a side (light / dark) you will be restricted to those powers).
Total skill points spent = 250 points.
Also note that defender has been removed as it currently is within the game as instead defence bonuses are granted throughout all skills.
For example: - Guardian type 1 Light side (Guardian) defensive combat (Can choose 2 forms of defensive combat)
Would have the defences of a current master defender. The same would apply for this template : -
Sentinel type 1 Light side (Defender) defensive force use / limited defensive combat (Can choose 1.5 forms of defensive force use 1/2 form defensive combat)
Templates of a more offensive nature will have a reduction in defence but an increase in damage, so that they are balanced.
Light saber Types.
There will be five types of lightsaber a Jedi can use.
The Great Saber (or two handed)
Short lightsaber (or one handed)
Double Bladed Lightsaber
Light Whip
Duel wielded Lightsaber.

Let's see. I have to reply to this in chunks I think.
pvp...
All Jedi who become Jedi for their own personal power, and lust for killing/defeating other players is rewarded and promoted with additional content, higher rank etc.
pve...
All Jedi who become Jedi to roleplay a Jedi, working for peace and justice, following the religion etc, and do not want to kill becouse they know that by Jedi canon a Jedi who strikes down his enemy is turned to the dark side.
Theese players are A) Limited to be as powerful as regular professions after 9 months of grinding. B) victims of Tef. C) victims of Bounty Hunters.
I am sorry, but this part you have to think through carefully.
Promoting Jedi to be forced topvp for extrapower is one of the greatest reasons just about everybody hates Jedi. It only attracts and rewards players who have no intention to roleplay and act out their character, following the Jedi religion and everything Jedi is supposed to be like.
I think you should drop the idea of "pve jedi" completely and work on allowing true Light Jedi to progress by playing their roles like we know from the movies, the books and the rpg.
I believe that the best way to save the grace of the Jedi community is to promote the Jedi who want to help rather than slay.
Light Side Jedi should be rewarded and earned rank exclusively by helping other players. Killing opponents should reward them zero, zip, nada and should in some circumstances reward a Light Jedi with penalties or maybe dark side points that eventually consumes everything they stand for.
Only thoose players who are dedicated to work hard on helping and assisting other players should gain rank, and it's them who should rule the council.
Let striking down your foes be Dark Side only. Let the Dark Side be ruled by the strongest warriors, and the Light Side be ruled by the wisest teachers. Like it should be.
The reward for being Dark Side is faster progress. The penalty for being Dark Side is that the Dark Side eventually start to betray the host, causing the body and the mind to rot, making the Dark Side Jedi a slave to the force, consumed by their own lust for power.
The reward for being Light Side is that they eventually end up stronger with lots of hard work and dedication. A very strong and important lesson for all Light Jedi is control... to quell anger, to defend themselves against the Dark Side. By not letting the Dark Side to take over they can eventually unlock the full power of the force, without being controlled by it, by not being consumed.

That's cool

Yes this is a difficult one. I have started to introduce lightside / darkside points. If a system can be thought out that works i'm all for it. However the only way this can be achieved is by discussing the ideas.

This is the most difficult part. How can you ensure that a PVE jedi does not wander around the universe however they please when one of the biggest complaints in SWG remains Jedi using the force with no controls on them ?
I am sorry, but this part you have to think through carefully.
Promoting Jedi to be forced topvp for extrapower is one of the greatest reasons just about everybody hates Jedi. It only attracts and rewards players who have no intention to roleplay and act out their character, following the Jedi religion and everything Jedi is supposed to be like.
See point above. Without proper contols how can it be that PVE Jedi remain hidden. If we can find an answer to this then PVE Jedi can have power.
However if PVE Jedi are given the same benifits as PVP Jedi who face a more extreme system (skill loss) then why should there be a PVP system ?
I think you should drop the idea of "pve jedi" completely and work on allowing true Light Jedi to progress by playing their roles like we know from the movies, the books and the rpg.
Could do, however then all jedi will be subject to the FRS and death. This is part of what i'm trying to find suitable /reasonable answers to. Something that would make those that want to PVP happy and those that don't want to PVP happy.
I believe that the best way to save the grace of the Jedi community is to promote the Jedi who want to help rather than slay.

I did think of KOTOR. The Jedi has a Light / Dark side meter that keeps tracks of your points.
Only thoose players who are dedicated to work hard on helping and assisting other players should gain rank, and it's them who should rule the council.
Should the council exist in the game as we percieve it ? or could there be an alternative suggestion ?
d the Light Side be ruled by the wisest teachers. Like it should be.
