The Beta test for this game was horribly incomplete. IF they wanted to beta testthe game fully they would have given all of the testers all of the abilities at one time or another to see how they all worked in the world. Since they didn't do that, there are now massive bugs surfacing.

My point to this is that Jedi were NEVER tested during beta. If they were there were only very few who did and have kept silent about it. The way to have tested it would be to give everyonetesting, Jedi powers and see what problems surface with the professionwhen people use it. Problem is the devs treated the Beta as though it were the actual game and kept testersjust as clueless as the players now are. Yeah, granting everyone Jedi powers, or even advanced profession skills would have ruined the surprise element for those that tested, but would that really matter if they were able to fix any problems that might occur then instead of after the game went live?Even if some of us are lucky enough to become Jedi, how are we supposed to know HOW to be a Jedi? How are we supposed to know if a problem in the class exists due to a bug, or if it's supposed to be a certain way?

Considering the professions that were out during beta are having some major problems, would you really, really want to be an untested Jedi that could suffer perma-death due to some bugs in their system?

You think it might be possible that their in-house testers have checked the Jedi out pretty thoroughly? Thats my guess.

Seeing as how there won't be many, I don't think this is anything to worry about.

Jedi were tested internally, as Beta Testers were told.

You know what? What makes you think that you know everything that goes on when making the game too? Do you work for SOE or Lucasarts? Do you work for a game company that has made an MMORPG before?

Maybe they did exactly what they wanted to do with the beta and got all the information they needed. No way they can tell everything that is wrong with a game of this scale. If you have any programming experience, you would know what its like just to program a simple tic tac toe game and have that work right, much less have varietyenough to be able to keep it interesting or have the game choose different boxes each time.

Give these guys a little slack! Yes there will be bugs and I'm ok with that as long a they get fixed, but what gets me is all the punks who constantly whine about how everything was done wrong.

WELL IF IT WAS DONE WRONG THEN GO MAKE ONE YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure they gave Jedi a thourough internal testing. Besides, maybe they ARE testing Jedi right now. Maybe some of those NPC Jedi you meet in random places are controlled by guys that work for them? That would be a good way to test the Jedi skills, without giving FS slots to people early.

I've read this guy's posts and he sure does complain a lot. Hey Lerx, you apparently don't have any clue about the video game industry, how video games are produced, and how marketing works so here goes.

INDUSTRY: Beta Testers are a Secondary but immensely important component of testing mmogs. Since mmogs are so open and large that an internal QA dept, would need help. But due to budget constraints, a video game company would be hard pressed to hire and pay 1000+ testers even if they were all temps. (That's the industry part.)

PRODUCTION: Nomatter how much work and how much time you put into developing a game, it will still have bugs at release. It's already bad enough that on average, a console game will release witha hundred or so bugs, a pc game will release with hundreds if not more than a few hundred, but an mmog??? It's completely improbable that it will release clean without non-stop testing even in the release version level. mmogs are the largest, most complicated, buggy types of games to ever come out. Stop complaining or stop playing, pick one.

MARKETING: If you were about to release one of the most well known brands out to the public in the shape of an mmorpg. Would you really release every secret about it to the public right away? (Yes, of course... If you don't like making money!) The difference with internal testers and beta in this sense is, non disclosure. Controlling information leak with a group of internal testers (40+ testers) who I'm pretty sure wanted to keep their jobs is much easier than controlling information leak with 1000+ (this is speculation since I don't know how many beta testers there were) beta testers which in reality had nothing to lose. So instead of having a crapload of people telling everyone and their grandma how to become jedi, there is a possibility that it will not leak at all. And marketing can do a couple more commercials about "Become a Jedi... at your own risk" or some other stupid line like that. (I don't like Marketing, they're corny.)

In other words: For Pete's Sake, THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!!!

I could have sworn that some Devs were running around with Jedis in the later part of the beta...

I guess that's about all the testing there needs to be. I'm sure, even though it's a rare "profession", the Dev's probobly payed a lot more attention to it than most of the other professions.
