Thread: Weird cloak thing last night

Hiyas!

OK, so I'm wandering around the outskirts of town looking for something decent to whack to play around with my newly "Bayne's Heart-ed" saber , but I'm doing so while cloaked (as I usually try to stay cloaked while not actually in combat).

I end up wandering past this CL11 scyk and, uppity little creeps thatthey are,he starts to attack me! I didn't have an auto attack set, so my saber stayed unlit. ButI noticed that even though I'm cloaked, the little bugger is hitting me for some damage! I'm CL80, so it's not even a worry, but it was my understanding that the existing bug with cloak is that MOBs can aggro on you, but not actually attack.

So, I decided to get rid of the pest, and set basic saber hit for auto-attack. Strangely, it takes a couple moves to end the scyk's misery, but the even stranger part is: I stayed cloaked the entire time! (The cloak icon was still up under my HAM bar, I had just the ghost image of my toon, and no dot on the radar.) To verify, I hit the cloak key again, and sure enough, there went a -Cloak- flytext.

So, is this the bug some people complain about? That Jedi can attack while cloaked? Or is this something new? I'm pretty darned certain that cloak is supposed to break as soon as you initiate a combat action.

Should I have /bug'ed this?

Thanks for your constructive remarks.

I experienced something similar as well last night. I'm standing around cloaked and decide to grab an Imperial mission. I run to it, still cloaked, and take out both NPCs and the base. I then proceed to run away and hit my cloak hotkey. Then I see -Cloak- go up(indicating I had been cloaked the whole time). I didn't notice prior to that if my cloak icon below my name was there the entire time, or if my dot was on radar.

To my knowledge this has never happened to me in pvp or a BH fight. I'll be bugging it today.

Thanks for confirming I have a modicum of sanity.

I'll try this again tonight after work, and /bug it if I can make it recur.

I wonder if the cloak sticking has something to do with not actually pressing a key for the saber hit, but cntrl-clicking to set an auto-attack? I'll make sure to test both scenarios.

It is a known Cloak bug, you can attack and be attacked until you re-Cloak. Safe way to test if you are bugged is get on a ride, if you mount it, youre bugged, get off and redo Cloak.

ps. your force will still drain during this bug. Happened to me once during a pvp battle, I decided to pull a Leeerooy, ran into the heat of the battle and did a spin but cloak didnt drop, I didnt notice as I was mashing area attacks. Found out when my force pool was empty in seconds lol.

This has happened to me quite a few times and I have a pretty simple answer - as far as the server is concerned, you're not cloaked, but for whatever reason your client thinks you are. I notice this happens most often when I cloak running pretty close to NPCs.

Probably at the time my client thinks I'm more than 20m away so the cloaking effect kicks in.. but due to server lagetc. the server doesn't allow me to.

I've confirmed this with friends btw, when I see myself as cloaked but still take damage, other players can see me clear as day.

Ahhh. Still worthy of /bug'ing, or have they already seen it enough times that now it's on the back burner simmering next to the Smuggler Revamp?

OK, so what does a violinist and a preacher have to do with this?

I'm very confused.
