Thread: Force Cloak a compromise
Whatever happened to "the greatest Star Wars saga ever told--ours?" The great games are the oners that evolve far beyond their origins. So what if they intended it to be an alpha strike tool and it was used instead as an getaway device. If it truly was supposed to be an alpha strike tool, then why wasn't powers or mls given a crippling first strike surprise attack? It comes back to the pitiful lack of meaningful testing and that ONCE AGAIN the developers didn't think something all the way through.
Yes, cloak became a tool for loot farming in a manner it was not intended. Easy enough to fix without nerfing the skill. Heck, I can't /maskscent while under cover. I shouldn't be able to /open or /loot while under cover, either. On the other hand, I should be able to operate switches while under cover--remember Ben?
As for an enforced snare, why make the choice for us? Walking while cloaked shouldn't cause it to break. Running creates a chance of being detected by creatures within a few meters. Let us work to be stealthy. Reward our discipline and chastise us for impatience. Fix the exploits that allow players to hone in on ckoaked jedi and exploit AOE effects. Bleeding is bleeding--doesn't mean it would break cloak. I can think of any number of scenes in the books where a wounded jedi uses his/her knowledge of the Force to aid in a getaway. Being on fire, on the other hand, would logically make one stand out in a crowd. If we don't want to be on fire, we can always put skill points into a state heal branch. Of course, we should also have a chance to block fire and send it back to the attacker...
If cloak being used as a safe haven during combat unbalances combat, then fix the problem--again, don't nerf the skill. Do not allow force to regenerate while under cloak. That would mean cloak force costs need to be cut by a factor of ten. And if jedi are cloaking and uncloaking in an unbalanced fashion, put a debuff in place that prevents re-cloaking for 30 seconds after uncloaking.
In addition to the insult this "throw the baby out with the bath" mentality this approach to fixing cloak represents is yet another major change to skills gamers--loyal subscribers--have invested their time in developing, with no recompense other than the typical under-trained CSR's pleasant and wholly insincere wish to "have a great day!" after pointing out we acknowledge game experience may change without warning every time we log in. How many restaurants would you go back to if they brought some experimental squid dish that they never tested for themselves instead of what you ordered based on a tasty-sounding menu description? And then, when you brought it to the server's attention, he said "Menu says items may be substituted! Neener neener neener!"
This game cries for a single visionary to put together a challenging experience for all level of players. Nerf the farmers, nerf the nerfers--just let us play.
I think jedi's have compromised enough. We have lost so much of the power we use to have. Its time to stop trying to make jedi's equal to other professions. I say we talk apples to apples for a change. Balance? Between Jedi and non-jedi characters? thats like saying balance between crafters and elite combat professions. Am i the only one who see's that you cant balance something that is not suppose to be balanced. Jedi's are suppose to be wiser and stronger then non-jedi players. If they want to fix the problems then give the jedi back there strength. Bring back the FRS and let the jedi's fight amongst themselfes.
There was a post several weeks ago about BH's killing jedi in the movies and no where in any of the 6 episodes has a BH ever killed a jedi. Yes the genitic clone copied millions of times into storm troopers did as a group but never 1 on 1. Jedi's are suppose to be able to survive using the powers of the force in ways that other non jedi cant. Stop the insanity with balance. Make being a jedi worth devoting the time and money we have before SOE is trully left with only a few.
