Thread: Does force lightening bypass armor?
HawtubJawkuzzi wrote:i'm almost certain that lightning does not bypass armor in any way. The powers skill that does bypass armor is choke.
Yes and no.
Yes choke completely by passes crafted/looted armor, does not by pass innate armor, force shield, or force feedback.
No Lightning does not by pass armor, but Force Lightning is special a portion of it does by pass crafted armor.
I bet that the NS are considered "ranked" and are certainly using Force Lightning.

Well, I'm jedi and I'm talking about jedi innate armor, not crafted armor. Jedi don't have specific elemental defense so that can't be the problem. I'm thinking now that maybe force defense is what is being used instead of innate armor. IF that's the case, then I'm fine with that but I just want to know so I don't go around thinking that my innate armor is helping verse lightening when it's not and I maybe die to a 1k lightening attack (because I play is close sometimes on my healing
).

Well if they are using Force Lightening whilst holding a melee weapon I am screaming f**king exploit until Dath crashes!!
I bet they can run while shooting it too.

Yes, some force lightning does bypass armour.
I just tested this on live. If you are wearing armour that would resist exactly 50% of normal electrical damage, it will absorb approximately 22.5% of the force lightning damage.
45% of force lightning is not mitigated by any armour or stats other than Force Defense, as far as I can tell.

I ask this question because I have never had lightening used against me before, so I don't know if a player using lightening against another player works the same as I have witnessed today in pve. Basically, nightsister force powers (lightening seems to be bypassing some of or most of my armor. However, when they attack me with a weapon, all my armor seems to work fine.
For example, the exact numbers were the following.
lightening hit for 1121 possible damage, my armor blocked 279 and I took 842 damage. So my armor blocked about.249 percent of the damage.
Power attack for 1220 possible damage, my armor blocked 553 and I took 667 damage. so my armor blocked about.451 percent of the damage.
Now these two attacks were done to me back-to-back. I had no aura on and the stalker did not apply any other states to me at all. Now I have 4440 defender which gives me 54 innate armor which should give me about 44.82% damage reduction. Well, that seems to be close to when I took the power attack hit, but the lightening was completely different.
So since I don't have much experience in pvp vs lightening, I was wondering if anyone who has experience with it know if lightening is supposed to bypass armor in any fashion.
Again, I DID NOT HAVE AB APPLIED TO ME. These attacks were done to me in the first 20 seconds of the fight which 12 - 13 seconds of that consisted of the stalker chasing me down because I needed to pull her further out.
So basically, I'm very curious about powers and if they may have changed or if NPC's are the only ones who can bypass armor like this. Since I was not AB, had no aura on or any other stats, the numbers just aren't consistant with the defenses I have. Is it a /bug or intended design to make PVE more challening?
Oh and by the way if it makes any difference at all, my MD and RD are the exact same (197 or 196).
PS....the stalker kicked by butt....LOL Had to use a rez ring. My mind and action pool were out so fast, I simply ran out of healing and when I tried to force run away, she rooted me and I was dead....however, I was testing bare combat and had no buffs of any kind. I did try it again with buffs later, but I got ganged up on when some more stalkers spawned nearby.....I only got away from them because for some reason, they broke off arggo and yes, I was rooted again. They just stopped fighting and walked back to the spawn (about 20 meters away.../scratches head I don't know what to make of that one)
before they nerfed the nightsisters pre cu there lightning could bypass armor but players lightning didnt if i remember correctly just another way to make force powers seem crappy by the devs.

yes, they sure do shoot lightening while running. Not only that, but they land their stats like 80% or moreof the time so it seems. It took me at least 9 attempts to land blind, 4 or 5 to land AB, 7 times to land saber throw, I couldn't land dizzy or bleed at all. All of this was attempted with no states on me, my accuracy is 230 or something like that and I missed every attack attempt like 8 times in a row at one point. I couldn't even hit the stalker and I'm master sabers so only improvement I can do is get maxed SEA's.
However, during one fight I had intimidate, choke, AB, blind, dizzy on me at one time and was then rooted by suppression and KD'd by saber throw (KD recover didn't work because I seemed to auto-get up after being KD'd...it doesn't last long enough to get a single hit in after the KD either). From my few experiences with CL85 stalkers, it wasn't pretty and I will definitely say you need to be buffed and have a good saber and use foods and drinks for solo play. The bigger issue is not the stats even though they have an affect on our HAM and regens, but its the increased cost of the mind bar making it difficult to last more than 2 mins with high level mobs. I have a 17 FC saber and my mind was draining really fast (I'll try my 11 FC saber later). One time I had no mind but still had 70 - 80% force left. Since every action has a mind cost now, talk about being helpless, LOL....So far seems like you need to be grouped to handle elite mobs farily easy. I have never been incapped by any NS other than an elder since january 04 with my main toon (I was master Fencer then)....I can't even imagine what a krayt will do to me now ![]()
