Thread: The logic behind CU2 and why giving Jedi better and not attainable things is a mistake.

First off I think all this is happening for 1 reason: SOE is losing money.

2 new expansions in a short time frame, that center on thenew movies and now this new CU?This tells me SOE is doing anything they can to get more subsciptions. And that their "focus-groups" have used the pre-trilogy (episodes I - III ) and resent gaming successes as a yard-stick.

I, myself, am a fan of the original trilogy (which is the time frame we are playing in). But it does not matter the pre-trilogy is a complete focus on jedi. This is the new "player -base" that SOE is trying to lure in, as such the change to make jedi attainable in a short time span will only makes sense...

One reason so many new players do not "stay on" is what is being addressed with this CU2: When you have to play for atleast 1 year and do very boring tasks (grinding) to play as type of player you want to be (jedi as the above passeges), people will lose patience and look elsewear.

Next is that a vast majorityof people want to be the best; simple but true. At the very least, they do not want to buy a game at which they areat a disadvantagethat cannot be made up...through no fault of their own. (People will say anybody could have bought and played this game... but I see myself as an example as not always. I spend the first 2 years of the game in a combat unit in the Marine Corps.. and believe me when i say that playing was not an option)

This is why "rewards" that cannot be attainable again are a mistake. If jedi get these "better" things once again you will have the same exact problems. I myself have "teetered" on leaving the game for such a reason... Why should I pay to play something where my potential will never be up to parwith another players? It is not so much that I donot want to earn it, it is more about I too want the option available tometo earn it.

This is a complaint I have heard time and time again. The general community response was well if you donot like it then quit and good riddance. Well this is exactly what happened, and why we have what we have now.

The audience SOE is trying to lure are new gamers. The majority of which want to be "the best" or want to be jedi.

If these player become jedi and realize they will never be as competitive as someone who had the game for longer, or unlocked jedi before they could unlock it, the same problem this CU2 is addressing will resurface... players will leave.

I truely understand that ones hard work needs to be rewarded. I myself have 2 characters. One has5 boxes of FS for jedi, the other is a master crafter with FS crafting mastery (all 4 boxes) ground out without respec or any 3rd party macro. Anyone who has grinded crafter knows grinding FS crafting mastery by hand is worse than any grind out there.

I too feel that this needs to be rewarded; however, making the reward unattailable for future gamers if it has any effect on potential success in such a profession is a HUGE mistake. It will lead to the same problems we have now.

People will buy the game and be interested and even enjoy it, then they will realize that success and overall potentalis abased on past play that they canno longer make up and will come to the conclusion thatthey will be doomed to be inferior for not having played for the last 3 years. And they will quit. Leaving only a handfull of loyal players left. A handful that is not enough to reach the profit margin.

I know many will hate this. However from the looks of things it really seems as if SOE is trying to get this "new fan base" and to do so this is the direction they must go.

I did not write this to cause hate or get flamed,or to whine about current game play or new changes. It is just what I see happening when I look at it from a business level. A level I feel the game developers are at.

of course people want to win...dont we all?

But why lower the overall bar and make everyoen equal so everyone "feels" good? Its a very liberal approach to solving a problem

I agree with you mostly. However, I don't think they are going to give something that gives elders an "I-Win" Maybe +5% damage on elemental over everyone else. Which is about 30 points. Also, keep in mind that as time goes on, more elders will leave and become the minority and the newer player will be the majority. I"m just going to wait and see what happens.

and for the record 82nd Airborne> Marines

No more whining that your professions suck, or one of your skills suck. If you get beat regularly, the end result is you suck. No more constant nerfs, buffs based on the believe that they are best, but something with their or someone else's template needs changing.

It doesn't matter anymore SOE is content most of the Vet players have already bought the expansion. It is pretty straight foreward all SOE wants is the money. That is why 1 week after the ToOw they release CU 2

The item that will be given will be like pre order reward or collector object.

Nice to have, but you will fully be able to live without them.

And for the super item with protection and better crystal, I give it a month or 2 before loots get added with better or same stats.

Do you also think that new crafters should be given immediate access to all the best resources the server has spawned? As a crafter, you know that those who've been in business a while and have access to months-worth of collected resources are going to do better than someone who respecs into (or stats a new) crafter.

I'd like to think that the 2 years I've invested in the game willmean something for my character's abilities. I'm doubting it will be a large edge though.

P.S Thank you for serving our country! I put in 6 years with the Navy from '85 to '91.

I don't think there is anything wrong with giving new players the opportunity to gain the type of rewards as vets, as long as they invest as much time as the vets have, there time witll come too...
