Thread: Jedi: The profession as a metaphor for the game.

SoE decided to use Jedi as the "flagship" profesison to promote SWG and the Total Experience, however every n00b I've met that's played at least past their first month has no intention of grinding Jedi.

Since there's no GCW, no content for high level characters (Jedi or regular professions) this = Most of them leave their first two-three months, (I know, we've gone through about ten of these people in my guild)

Seriously, when the profession that is supposed to be the "ultimate" achievement in the game stacked against other professions (no matter how hard or easy getting Jedi is now compared to how it used to be, it's stil the most difficult thing to achieve in the game) is so worthless, so utterly boring, what does this say about the game? Not good things.

My point: Gimping Jedi, not adding content, fixing the GCW by making it worthwhile and removing Jedi from it and giving them the FRS, being stingy with loot = Killing SWG.

The Jedi (and let's not forget Smugglers) are truly the best measure of how unplayable this game is becoming. One (Jedi) is nerfed into unplayability, and the other is completely ignored for years.

I agree. let's just change the name to KOTOR online, everyone can select a Jedi at startup and be done with it.

You can decide if you want to play the most boring StarWars game ever and get jedi.... but you realy stand better when you do 3 or 4 extra-days at work and get one at E-Bay.....

or you can play a non-content-round-based-mmog (jeah im not saying roleplay to this....) .... and there are some better once out there.

but what ever you do... dont forget to pay SOE for it.

At its core, the game itself is terribly boring and slow paced right now. Against high level mobs, you winwhen you have enough medical skill in your template to outlast them, and they take an infernally long time to die. Beyond my attention span. Not fun.

Groups are the opposite. There's barely enough time to get a hit in before what we're fighting dies, and that's not even a full group. But, we'd all rather take these on-level missions and complete them fast than go over our level and get one or two shotted. That's definitely not fun.

JTL was fun in the beginning, but now the ships change vector instantaneously and fly into your face when you get a bead on them and start hitting them good. Or, they joust at speeds well above what player ships are capable of. Or, they circle you in tight that to hit you have to lead well ahead and can't even see what you're shooting at. Challenge is created by swarming the players with an unending deluge of enemies. Not fun.

Jedi is laughable. It was also fun before all the nerfing started, before publish 9. Each change took more and more of the fun out of it until its just a frail shadow of what it once was.

If I could institude one and only one policy at SoE in regard to the development of this game, it would be a requirement that the devs sit down and answer one question honestly before making any final decisions about changes: "How is this change fun for the players?" If that were in effect during the CU development, we'd have a much differernt game in place today. :}

Jedi is the selling point in this game. Every noob that logs in always has the question "how do i become a jedi?". In my opinion jedi is the ultimate goal for everybody to accomplish. I always think of it as "lvl 60 if this were WoW" or "lvl 75 if this were FFXI". At those lvls in those games your characteris as strong ashe can be. Naturally you would think that jedi would be incredibly powerful and fun. But it is not.

SOE nerfed jedi to hell and more. I wonder why? i would bet100mill it started with everybody on these forums complaining and complaining for NERF NERF NERF!! These idiots are the ones that are to blame for the frequent jedi nerfs. Even jedi wanting other jedi nerfed.rule #1 - Jedi do not call for anerf on any other type of jedi, unless shooting yourself in the foot gives you jollys.SOE gave them what they wanted, and now look what jedi has become.

The answer here is simple. take that nerf bat and shove it. It is time to start fixing things.

Everybody knows how the jedi population is high. Instead of nerfing existing jedi and hoping they give it up fix the problem at the source. Getting glowy is the main thing im talking about here, it is WAY too easy. For example, im out recruiting for my guild and i get a noob in. 3 days later he's feeling the inner glow. The village is lame, what the hell does patrolling waypoints and escorting captains have to do with learning the ways of the force? I guess i missed that part in the movies where yoda tells luke "to waypoints you must go, villager you must find, bring him and reward you i will with crappy reward +10 defense for 5 minutes." It should be more quests (difficult ones), less grinding, and DIFFERENT FOR EVERY PLAYER!! You should NOT be able to write a faq on how to get something like jedi. The aspect of it being different for every person like the hologrind in my opinion was awesome. Or SOE could always publish a book,

How to get jedi for DuMMieS!!

-Glow

-Grind

-Congratulations! Now lets see how many nerfs you can take before you put down that saber...im guessing 6.

Anyways back on topic. I play this game for fun, right now it really isn't very fun at all. Slaughtering girrafes and dinosaurs for hours on end is only fun for so long. FRS is something that really needs to be put back in, fun in this game will double, and im sure there will be a lot more satisfied customers. Unless you be typical SOE and make it horribly unbalanced.

In conclusion my point is this. Make jedi something worth grinding and looking forward to, make each players path to jedi different unique and exciting. Make quests intriguing and fun. Make jedi powerful like they should be, when a guy with a gun is more powerful than a jedi knight shooting lightning out of his hands, there is something wrong with the system. More fun less work. thanks to anyone patient enough to read this long post lol.

What server are you on ? Every time I go to Eisley, I get the infamous tells (the jedi ones, not the credits ones ). I know a few and heard of even more who have a bunch of POI badges and one profession badge who are working the village now, and probably don't even know how to use the bazaar

True, but you can get your first profession badge within the first month. One of my buddies mastered his first profession within his first week and a half. TKM. That was grouping all with people his level, no crazy Jedi grind groups.
