Thread: what ever happened with permadeath.

We see some old jedi complaining about how new jedi have ruined the profession by whining.
My question is who whined about permadeath?
Surely it was not the post CU jedi or the post pub 9 jedi?

We are all quick to point the finger at new jedi yet in the past before the village jedi and the post cu jedi, there was many complaints.

If no none complained then what happened to things as permadeath, skill loss, saber tef?

Major problem with Permadeath is this. Originally when you unlocked Jedi you were given a second character slot. Your original Toon remained the same and the 2nd character slot was your Jedi. If you got BH killed enough then you were forced to reroll that 2nd character slot.

Since that has been changed permadeath is not an option. Here's why. Many of us have played our original toons since day 1 (actually day 3 but we won't get into that discussion...) Consider this, having played my main toon for around 2 years if permadeath was reintroduced that would mean I could potentially lose everything I have worked for in that time.

So thats why permadeath is gone and will never return. There has been discussions about a "blue-glowey" system that might be workable but permadeath on Jedi maintoons is never gonna come back for sure.

There is no peace, there is anger.
There is no fear, there is power.
There is no death, there is immortality.
There is no weakness, there is the Dark Side. I am the Heart of Darkness.
I know no fear, but rather I instil it in my enemies. I am the destroyer of worlds.
I know the power of the Dark Side. I am the fire of hate.
All the Universe bows before me, I pledge myself to the Darkness.
For I have found true life, in the death of the light.

Every profession has whiners. Jedi are no different.

Technically, it was the post 9 jedi that did. When SOE made the main toon become jedi, SOE knew they could never leave permadeath in the game. Pre9ers would just reroll before that, our mains were unaffected by a permadeath.

Also one thing about permadeath n its removal was due to dying beyond the persons control. IE, getting a poweroutage at your house. Your jedi goes LD. You come back to find him dead. Stuff like that.

Did you not get 3 deaths to compensate for that?

wasn't it like 3 deaths in a certain amount of time and your toon was gone?

no 3 deaths period atleast for the first unlockers, the main problem was that no one knew what made permadeath happen like how many deaths and so on. And with teh SOE server stability being extremely bad permadeath was not an option.

The other thing that people do not realize is that it DOES NOT control the number of jedi.

Even if this system were in place now, which given the current state of jedi power vs. then is totally not possible, people would STILL HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE A JEDI CHARACTER ONCE UNLOCKED.

There will not be less jedi in the system at all, but hurting another player like this is a grievers dream.

Permadeath isn't the solution, if you are worried about the number of jedi in the game then clientsidemod their robes and lightsabers, see no evil, hear no evil.

How come Permadeath was removed before the system was changed to your main becomming your Jedi? I think only reason it was removed was server unstabillity so you could go LD get killed and lose your Jedi. Another problems were exploits, not any fun losing your Jedi to a sploiter. And you didn't have any non Jedi skills when you started, you spent 250 SP on getting Jedi and all Jedi Boxes were free after that, so when you started out you were pretty defenseless.
