Thread: Alpha Classes

I don't know about anyone else, but I play games to experience things that I would never be able to in real life. I want to experience power beyond my wildest imaginations. I want "I win" button, if only for a fleeting moment. I dream of being someone like Obi-Wan Kenobi or Yoda. God help me, I even sometimes dream about what it would be like to be Darth Sidious. Why? Because they were the strongest and most powerful. Jedi aren't the most popular iconic movie characters in the world because they sit around and meditate about the force all day. It's because if you mess with them, they will ruin your day.
Sony just doesn't get it. There should never be a balancing for everyone in an MMO. There is no "end" to these types ofgames, so what incentive is there to stay beyond a certain point? Is the answer quests or the always ambiguous "content"?Don't make me laugh. Besides, I will never buy an expansion again from SOE because of what they pulled on their customer base this last month. Also, if I wanted to play quest games, I would stillhave my XBox or Playstation. I would buy Battlefrontor Jedi Academy or KOTOR.
Give the players a way to become more powerful than anything else, and they will be happy. But, make it so there is only one super powerful being on each side. Make it so others can catch and kill the Master, and become one in his stead. For just the chance to become an all powerful being, I would keep paying 15 bucks a month. If you can't give it to me SOE, then I will keep looking until I find it. LISTEN UP, SOE. I DON"T WANT TO BE JUST ANOTHER JEDI LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.
There is a reason that we still talk about Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun, Napolean, Alexander the Great, hundreds or thousands of years after their death. POWER.
As the emperor said when he blasted Mace Windu with lightning, I want "UNLIMITED POWER"!!!!
Can I say too many times? POWER. Give me the chance to choose as well, power to destroy things, or power to save and help people.
When will they ever get the idea? Will it be after their 10th combat system change? IT'S NOT THE COMBAT SYSTEM THAT IS WRONG SOE. It's your belief system.
I do not know if this a parody of the Jedi community or if you are honest, but it gave me a good laugh.
Jalia,
I think you are wrong. And I am not trying to say that every Jedi should have power. Some Jedi got owned pretty fast in the movies. What I am saying is that I wouldlike to seea system whereone or two peoplecan potentially be very powerful.
Iremember the first time someone dragged a Dark Jedi Master NPC into the Mining Outpost. It was hacking and slashing people all over the place. Then about 20-30 people would gang up on him. And with that many people, it still took a couple minutes to kill it. It was so much fun. Now imagine if a player was that DJM. Imagine if you were that Master. Once you die though, you would go back to being a regular Padawan. How fun would that be??
They could make a quest line where you actually kill Sidious, and once you do, you become the Sith master, with all the power that comes with it. Other dark jedi can then come for you and unseat you. On your next death, dark jedi get an email or system message saying there has been a terrible disturbance in the force. Maybe there is a holocron somewhere that allows you to become the master. People scramble to get there first. I think it would add a whole new dynamic to the game.
Same could be done with the light side. If a dark jedi kills the master, then a void is opened. There are many ways to implement a system like this. But I think that having one in would keep many people interested.I knowit would keep me here longer.
Its easy to sell the game to the guys who wanna be really really strong. But who wants to play the cannon fodder?
I think about the original poster the same thing I think about everyone who comes along and proposes this once a day or two: I'll start thinking this is viable once I see the boards loaded with posts of players who want to be cannon fodder for another group to slaughter.

Armord1,
Guess what, a force user does rule everyone in the galaxy. His name is Emperor Palpatine. And yes I want that power too. If only for a short time when I am a master.
They could do this for the other combat classes as well. Every bounty hunter I know wants to be like Boba Fett. Does anyone want to be like Bossk, or some other BH? No, because they didn't catch Han Solo. They weren't the best. People idolize the ones that are "best" or most powerful.
I just think it would add so much to the "fun factor" of the game.

Alpha Classes dont work properly in MMO.
The people who THINK they do, or in this case THINK THEY DID (original jedi) were shortsighted.
People are PRAGMATIC and no MMO Alpha Class will remain rare, unique, or sustainable for long.
SOE made the error of idealism (which as an idealist I can sympathise with) and have since woken up.
"Alpha" statusactually works fine and exists in some form in every popularMMORPG on the market.
What doesn't work is making everyone the same. This has been proven time and time again.
