I do not know what to think about the CU2. Please do not flame me as I am really interested in reading everybody's opinions on the subject. In many ways, this is a welcome change also to the Jedi community. I always believed the whole grinding wasn't that fun by itself. I mean, to me, killing thousands of bols wasn't that Star-Warsy, nor the whole village thing, where everybody had to follow the same exact path, was enough to make me feel I was doing something "special". More randomness in the process to become a Jedi would have helped.
Anyhow, we now have this new system. The good thing, in my opinion, is that it is quest based instead than grinding based, which meansmuch more content and much more diverse things to do to reach LVL 80. What I think it is wrong to make the Jedi status something attainable through simple profession questing like any otherjob.Having thousands of Jedis on all servers doesn't feel like Star Wars at all; Jedi will become just anotherprofession, like Knight in a fantasy MMORPG. I grew up with Star Wars, and I believe the being a Jedi MUST be difficult, filled with dangers, and somehowmore unique. And while the overpopulation of Jedis was already one of the most serious issues of the game, with the NGE it will reach an entirelynew level.
If the developers wanted to give everybody a lightsaber and other force skills, they might have added Force Sensitive as a profession, but with no jedi status. In other words, I believe starting players may have the right toexpress the desire to play the role of force wielders in a Star Wars RPG. Theymay walkthe path offorce students, philosphers of the force; throughquesting, they may reach a deeper understanding of the force. In this way, they can reach lvl 80, and attain something like "Master Force Sensitive" status (sorry for the lack of fantasy). Then, the path to reach the Jedi status, name, and all a series of additional force powers should be more skill based, and with "skill" I mean a mixture of strategy, action, and "moral" choices that in a SWG game MUSTbe all in one with the Jedi profession.
What do you think?

I think Force Sensitive as a profession is a huge flaw. The problem is with the new no changing your character without deleting them, everyone is going to pick it from the begininning and you're going to have thousands of jedi everywhere. Anytime you have a change like this, you're going to have a loss in player base that you hope by redesigning the game will attract more players. So what we have is diverse professions leaving and new jedi/force sensitives coming.
I think you've got a pretty good idea. Force Sensitive goes all the way to CL 80 or 90 or whatever the max is...and then an extended gameplay that leads to jedi. I'd even go as far as having it be something you can fail, if it weren't for the no more changing professions thing.
