Thread: Force Lighting as a ranged special? Why a dark side power?
to quote
• Jedi = Luke Skywalker
Special:
• Block Blaster Bolts – Block Blaster bolts using a Force powered lightsaber.
• Force Lightning – Call down the Force power of lightning to weaken your opponent's strength during battle.
Jumping the gun a bit on assumptions, since SOE is as usual tight lipped, but the implication (from what I've read)is all 9 new profs will be essentially the same at the end in terms of skills, no diverting branches to set them apart from another user of the same prof. Thus all Jedi will have the Force Lightning power as based on this quote. I suppose I may be in the minority here, but this is in a classic sense a dark side power, and even if not directly "evil" carries the stigma with it. I activly avoided the powers skillset in game, just because it was more offense based in many ways, and I enjoyed playing a defense oriented Jedi, one meant to help others in a group more than anything.
Now granted, I don't HAVE to use it, but it is likely to be the main "ranged" attack a Jedi gets, which is nothing to scoff at with what appears to be the new direction of combat. Thus I ask, why a power like this, over the growing standard, Saber Throw? It's much more neutral, though of course not as flashy. I suppose it too could be in game, simpy not mentioned, but again, we have nothing but the FAQ to go off of.
Not everyone wants to be light side oriented like me either, to which I say excellent, the dark side seems like a neat area to take your toon, but all themore reason for us not to have the same skill in this area.
Opinions? Corrections?
I got nothing better to do for now. ![]()

I could only see it working for all Jedi in a fashion that it's use leads to a turn to darkness in some way.

Depends on how you look at it. The KOTOR series didn't consider powers to be inherantly light or dark, it was a question of how you used them that was good or evil. Say a haywire Binary Load-lifter ran out of control and was about to crush a woman and her children, a Jedi uses force lightning to disable the droid. Could that be considered an evil act?
Food for thought.

No, however I have seen it referred to as "Sith lightning" in official sources, such as the ROTS visual dictionary published by LucasBooks. Perhaps there is some technical difference between force lightning and "sith lightning" (such as sith lightning involving some kind of sith teachings and techniques to make it more destructive or deadly)

/everything should be based on the films, regardless of how bad it gets fouled up here. Don't lose focus.
