Thread: How I would fix jedi...

1. (Since Dev's have said no perma-death ever again)...if a Jedi dies to BHs more than 3 times within 7 days, they revert to a Padawan with no skills (change name, for example Geevo Deem would become Geevo Deem II, can you imagine Geevo Deem XXX?) This would keep the name the same for all of the normal game functions, but would also have a method to see how people are doing (basically keeps track of restarting toons).

2. Increase power of Jedi back to Pre-Pub 9

3. Change access to the village to be RANDOM (so like a noob day 1 player has a 1:1,000,000,000,000,000 chance) and the longer someone plays the more likely they will unlock Jedi (so someone playing two years has a 1:1,000 chance and a 4-year vet could have a 1:25 chance). Limit it to a system check every time there is a login with a maximum check of 1 time per 24 hours. Also remove the grind for the Village (or minimize it greatly) ... I would still require the quests because I liked that and it added content.

4. Change BH so three things happen:
a. If they lose more than 3 times within a week to a Jedi, they lose their Master BH Skill
This allows them to 'take a break' if they lose the 3rd time, they don't have to hunt Jedi for a few days and can avoid losing a skill. If they are foolish enough to continue then they will need XP to get the skill back.
b. If they fail to complete more than 2 Jedi missions in a row, they find themselves on the BH Terminals
If they are hunted by a BH and lose, they lose XP (not a big deal unless they lose a 3rd time to a Jedi within the week)
c. If they fail to complete more than 3 NPC missions in a row, they find that they can be hunted by NPC BHs

(Anyone else actually think these are good ideas? I would especially like to hear from the DEVs, but I doubt that will happen)

I dont. Random chance for jedi = bad

You can make a new char every 20-30mins? Not sure which.

You can use a mouse recorder to make a new character. (sure it will look ugly and have a weird name but hey.. this is to prove a point)

Thats at worst 48 attempts per day.. a dedicated person could do this constantly.. and think how many ppl have multiple accounts..

Yes, i know.. this is a 'far out' and unlikely but trust me, people are desperate enough to buy Jedi on E-Bay, they are depserate enough to do this..

Jedi in 2 weeks? Get ready for Jedi in 2 days..

For #1, I would rather but stuck in Blue Glowie Form for a week than to have to regrind the entire Jedi Profession.

For #2 I like the thought. I think that getting FS is way too easy. I think they placed too much emphasis on the XP grind and not nearly enough on getting FS in the 1st place. people can come into this game and have FS status within a few days. The need to raise the requirements forFS badges and location visits and content. There needs to be more actual playing of the game before someone is eligible for FS. I would probably rather see a set requirement like content badges than a random system, then it is based on playing action and experience rather than having anything toi do with luck.

For #3, no on A) I dont like any system that has skill box loss, however I like B) as it is what might happen in an actual Star Wars Galaxy. You fail me, I put you on BH terminal myself. The XP loss in B) doesnt have much point without skill box loss in A) so I would scratch that as well. C) is fine but I would also like to see NPC BH come after us Jedi as well

That is why you need to make the odds so great that it is counter-productive (think "Better chance of winning $1 billion in a lotto") ... it just isn't going to happen, but a random fluke may. It is also why I qualified it with no more than 1 check per day (if you make that per account, not per toon...then it would also eliminate it).

Multiple toons, yeah...they pay the money. I don't like it, but I don't see a way around that.

I do.. a non random system xD

Also, by decreasing the odds the longer you play you are discouraging new players, lets face the facts 90% of the people who joine dpost CU want a jedi. If they know for a fact the chances of them getting a Jedi before they play for at least 2 years are remote, why would they join and pay for the privalige of waiting for a random event?

#1 Trust me, so would I ... but we do need population control. Also, essentially you still have control (don't play your toon for a week and the count clears anyway).

#3 We need some system that there is a gain/loss on both sides. You are correct, it doesn't have much point without the skill box loss. The xp loss would make it so they were not just capped on XP all the time and may have to regrind if they did not play correctly.

The other thing I would add that I failed to mention is that I think groups should be able to help (both sides). The BH would have to time things appropriately, but with the increased power of Jedi that I mentioned, BH would need help. But if the Jedi is in a group, he should also be able to be helped by his group-mates. Essentially to win the BH would need to time an attack well ... either the Jedi (perma-overt or not) is in combat ... near death and the BH steps in to finish the job...or he gets enough help and hits the Jedi 8v1 when the Jedi is not paying attention.

The Jedi (Knight) should be able to take out several of the group ... but 8v1 should win in the end even at Knight. Jedi Master would be perma-overt and if the BH group hit the Master mid-combat (and he should be fighting a lot so wouldn't be difficult to ambush him). The Jedi Master must maintain his FRS, so he will be in combat a lot ... time it well and the Jedi Master can be taken down as well.

This whole thing goes back to "With great rewards, there are great risks"

Simpy put, it rewards the Veterans and the Jedi is supposed to be the end-game. It doesn't discourage new players, in encourages long-term players that continue to pay the monthly fee. There are many things to do in SWG and I think players that have played 2+ years deserve it more than the new players. In addition, the veterans understand the game better, have done most of the content and it is time to reward them. In doing this, it also keeps the Veterans in the game longer because it gives them new and additional content.

(I didnt quote cos it was too long )

Yes it rewards veterans, elitism issues aside you're going to have a player base of your veterans with very few new players joining. This will cause SOE to drop the game in short. The franchise will not be pulling its weight financially, you have to remember that when it comes down to it the current system is here because it allows new players to get jedi fairly soon ensuring that they will join safe in the knowlege their main ambition if fulfillable, not just a random event in the distant future.
