Thread: Jedi should be able to use ANY LS(Not just the ones you craft)

How many times have we seen one Jedi use another Jedi's LS in the movies? Wanna say "this isnt the movies?" Fine. Its happened even more in the EU, which is what categoy SW games fall under. Where did SOE get the impression that a Jedi can only use a LS if he crafted it, and who thinks it should be different?

i agree, grievious used 4 different ones. anakin lost his saber and obi too, several time, and were just tossed extra sabers from other jedi, so whats the big deal? also i think we should be able to pearl swap, i havea house full of pearls i tune that i dont use.

nowhere in the movies does it say that a jedi cant use someone elses aber. they frequently did, and carried extras just in case a freind needed one.

anakin has used a blue"his", a green "not his" and a red, "new his".

It would unbalance the entire game. I could walk up to a good Jedi Master friend who has a 771 max saber, take his, then i just got 40 extra dmg for nothing. See the flaw? Probally not thru the thick head of yours, but essentially, all the knights would start selling sabers, and you would LOSE MORE money then if you just bought pearls, when you can go and hunt them on your own,

This is a game. A MMORPG online game.

Whatever happens in the movies or the EU matters nothing to the SWG universe.

What about using other melee weapons as well? Is not a lightsaber affected by general Melee speed and accuracy? Should not a Jedi be able to use theLS Power attack with a pikemans lance as he could with a two bladed saber, or use the Pikeman's Impale with his Saber? Well since I think the first three LS box moves should use no Force anyways I would like to think so. It would be fun to equip a long vibro axe and be able to Force throw it for a Force cost.

How can you say you've lived life if you've never danced?
Well I do remember Han having a one piece suit made out of carbonite but it weighed a ton. Still it didnt require any ironing and was very wear resistant.
Thanks SOE! The CU and NGE gave me my life back. Thanks! Bitterness is the taste of love lost, a tear of acid that burns the heart.
Long gone, in sorrow of song. Stand I make to deliver hope with twisted temporal past, for the ripples in time distort what affects when. Prowlies a must see Clicky!
As a dreamer I sing to the sea and imagine the possibilities and potential this game could free, but when I get home a sad sight there be. A lost fool, for once was is gone, what could've been to never be, and the angel of my heart to be forgotten, locked away by the key of SOE.

don't know if you have noticed but everitt is a bh not a jedi, so in that case he doesn't have or use a LS

no sig won't let me use html sniff sniff

- I support a rollback and keeping & balancing the old combat system.

It wouldn't unbalance the game at all if it was done properly. If you go by what's known about crafting sabers, then in-game a saber crafted by anyone else but yourself and you use it should have a damage and accuracy reduction because that saber is not fully tuned to you, but another jedi. Jedi and non-jedi can use any saber, but they cannot be as efficient with someone elses sabers as they can with their own. That's because every jedi has a different connection to the force. Some are stronger than others....plus there said to be many ways to tune crystals and pearls and various ways to build a saber (which SWG severly lacks).

Some of the reasons why we must craft our own sabers in-game and they are not tradeable.....

  • First, the idea of crafting your own saber and gathering your own crystals/pearls was one of the trials initiates had to go through before they can become a padawan.

  • Second, it's said that a jedi has to tune crystals/pearls to himself or something to that effect. A crystal/pearl tuned by a jedi is much stronger than if they used one tuned by another jedi. (even kotor follows this concept, but swgdoesn't....Kriea explains to the exile that a crystalis much strongerto the jedi that tuned it, not exact words though).

  • Then before CU, we were restricted to leveling up before we could use a higher level saber so there wasn't an issue of needing to trade sabers although a MLS would have more experimentation to make a novice a nice training saber or gen 1 saber....but it couldn't be that way then because of balance.

However, in CU there is no restrictions on the level of saber you can use because noone starts out grinding jedi at CL 1. every jedi is at least CL 54 so they can use a 4th gen saber. That's because of the transition from normal professions to jedi. So the only difference now is whether you have pre-CU crystals and pearls. That means the issue of balance was completely thrown out the window when CU went live. A novice saberist can have the exact same saber as a MLS with the variety of specials, speed and accuracy (which all affects potential damage)being the only difference.

So if we were allowed to trade sabers now, it would not unbalance the game at all.Only thing it will do is hike up the prices for crystals/pearls and MLS would charge large amounts of money for 4th gen sabers. I wouldn't doubt that a 4th gen would probably be going for 20 - 30 million, maybe even more. If it has anywhere near capped pearls in it and is crafted with 12 exp. points, it probably would get well into the 50 million range.

So I don't think we really want that anyway. Right now we all have the ability to use a 4th gen saber and any xxx4 saberist can make a decent saber.....all you would be missing is the ability to use 12 exp. points. However, 7 pts is not enough becauseeven withusing the 6 pt experimentation method, you would need to use all your points in efficiency to get SAC low, leaving you with less than desirable speed and damage.

Overall, besides the cost of tradeable sabers, being able to trade them now will simply bring CUsaberist a little closer to pre-CU saberist especially if the devs put premiums and flawless pearls back in the game. It all comes down to experimentation after that. IT would be a shortcut for jedi who don't want to go MLS to make a good saber when all they want to do is be 0404 sabers. Many jedi do go master, craft a few great sabers and then drop master.....trading sabers will eliminate that.

I think it should not be changed though. Crafting your own saber is part of being a jedi and growing as a jedi. Luke could have easily used his fathers saber so as long as he didn't lose it (which he did, along with his hand LOL)....but Luke was not adept with using his fathers saber either, nor was he in using the force.

The last problem with the idea though is that no master jedi ever built a saber for any other jedi to use and I think SWG is trying to follow that concept. Jedi used other sabers in emergency situations....mostly because they became defenseless, so it's either use another jedi saber or die. A jedi must make their own though. The more connected they become with the force, the stronger their sabers get. It's a learning process that helps a jedi understand the use of the force. If another jedi crafted for them, then a padawan would never be as adept with the force as others who craft their own.

Actualy, I'm both(Note the Jango and Obi-Wan links in my sig). Even so, I'm not jealous of someone's saber. Just watched the movies recently and the thought occured to me.
