Thread: New Jedi with questions that aren't answered in the stickies....

Hi all!
I had a few questions that I can't seem to find the answers to in the stickies. I have looked at almost all the FAQs that are posted there, but many of them are out of date... (if these are in the stickies and I missed it, please feel free to point this out and just let me know which one to read)
#1 I have heard that when crafting a saber that you need to be alone or it causes visibility. Is this true? Can you be grouped with another jedi or other players and both craft at the same time near each other since grouping is not supposed to give you vis? Can you craft with non-grouped players/npcs around?
#2 I don't suppose there is a way to check your visibility number? If there is, then when do you start expecting to see yourself on the terms? Also are the npcs that give you vis only the ones that can be attacked including either rebels or imperials even if you are on leave or does it include trainers, vendors etc?
#3 Is the reason for grades on crystals and pearls just for the higher chance of a good tune? I read that the max of a crystal is 110 and a pearl is 120. I was told that anything around 75 and over was a good tune. Why did my poor crystals tune better than my quality ones? I'm guessing its all just chance?
OK, that's it for now... if anyone has any other tips or has an up to date FAQs thread or can point me to a website that does that would be great too!
No crafting doesnt cause vis, but be mindfull if using a public house and you have vis a bh might sneak up on you
Theres no way to check, if you ignite your saber use any force powers near 32m of a npc you get some vis and i mean any npc
tuning is one big mess i've had poors tune better than prems back inthe day

#1 Crafting a lightsaber does not give visibility. Equipping / unequipping one does, though. Carrying one does not, either.
#2 You cannot check the amount of visibility you have. Your only way to know that you are on the terms is when you actually are attacked by a BH.
You can get visibility from everything that is classified as "Character" when you hover over the radar dot. NPC vendors, factional NPCs, players and N-K Necrosis are "Characters", to name a few. Pickets, Bols, droids and swoops are classified as "Entities" and dont give visibility.
Opposing-faction visibility givers will grant double the regular visibility, while same-faction visibility givers will grant only half the amount of visibility. If you are neutral, everything will grant the regular amount of visibility. Your factional status (on leave, combatant, special forces) does not influence the amount of visibility gained as far as I know.
Grouped "Characters" do not give visibility.
#3 Tuning is random, but the expected value is different for the different quality ratings. Flawless pearls usually tune better than 100 damage / -7 Force cost reduction, while "good" pearls usually tune in the range of 55 to 75 dmg / -3 to -5 FC. There is a very small chance for "good" pearls to tune to 120 dmg, there is a very small chance for "good" pearls to tune to -9 FC, and there is a next-to-nothing combined chance for a good pearl to tune to 120 / -9 therefore.

1 if u use force within a certain radius of any npc/pc u gain vis.
2 no,no way to see your vis number. u notice it by a a bh visit.same faction give 25%of a avalue vis
neutral factiongives 50%of a value vis
opposite faction gives 100% of a value vis
and all non creature characters gain vis.
3 yes.saber with max damage over 600 is considered good past cu with the lack of premium pearls. tuning a crystal is random.
yes again.
Thanks for all of the replies!
For clarity on the Vis question, I read in the stickies about the percentages whether its an opposing faction, npc or same faction, but it also mentioned that it depends on the force value of the action you did to get the total amount of vis. Does this mean that if you used an action that cost you a ton of force that you get more vis than an action that cost less force?

Some people think different actions give different amounts of visibility - for example equipping the lightsaber gives less visibility than actually executing a Power Attack with it. But since you cannot check the amount of visibility you have, this cannot be proven right or wrong.
All I can say is that if you are careful with people driving by your grinding groups, you will not have a BH after you. A few smaller visibility accidents will not put you on the terms, I saw my first BH after I decided that I wanted to see BHs and started slaughtering factional NPCs and attacking / defending PvP bases.
What I did to avoid getting any "vis" was:
1. I never traveled with my saber out. I only equipped it when I was about to engage my targets. Afterwards, I would unequip, and move to the next lair, or next place I needed to be.
2. Although Robes are not suppose to cause vis. I rarely wore mine to avoid it.
3. I never dueled anyone during my time building my temp, until they allowed grouped members to not gain vis.
4. I avoided NPC's like the plague. I think the rule was like 50 meters or so, but I didn't use any Jedi ability while within 80 to 100 meters. Even then I had those guys cleared, or I shot them with a reg weapon to clear them away. If you don't loot them once they are cleared, they don't respawn as fast.
5. In effort to keep a low profile, I didn't even dress or act as a Jedi. I had no title up or if I did, it was of a completely different profession.
6. While it became harder and harder to not kill opposite faction players/NPC's I did not engage in any PvP or (now-a-days) combatant fighting.
7. All macro I used for any force skills I dumped as I moved about. Just like equipping my saber I never had macros active while not engaged with my target.
8. I never tuned a pearl or crystal with a player or NPC close by. I again used the 80 or more meter rule I applied to myself.
I know some of this is a bit of an over kill, but consider that the first BH to come for me was at the very end of the grinding, and I was ready to defend myself.

(...)One thing I did forget to ask was for a confirmation on how much xp you lose per BH deathblow?
2000 times the skill points you have in Jedi skills (excluding FS skills).
Examples:
No Jedi boxes at all (only Padawan, no Novice Jedi skills): 0 xp
Novice LS: 16000 xp
Heal 4000: 56000 xp
Master Lightsaber: 178000 xp
MLS / Enh 3402 / Def 4040 / Heal 4000: 450000 xp
