I don't know how many of you if any played World of Warcraft. My wife plays it constantly and I noticed something that was interesting about Player Progression in this game.
POINT:Once you picked a Class each class had a distinct concentration. I.E. If you were a warlock you could choose to spend TALENT points in a sub class like, destruction or Demonology, etc. So essentially you'd have a Class and 3 sub classes, that allowed you to make your specific toon UNIQUE.
I thought it would be interesting if the DEVS implemented a similar system in some of the professions we have now, We'll take Jedi for examples since this is the jedi Forum.
Master Lightsaber: Let's say you complete the Master Lightsaber tree. Once you complete that Tree you must complete a quest given to you by lets say Obi-Wan if you're Light and Darth Maul if you are Dark.
Once you complete the quests you can learn two of the following forms of combat
Form I : (Shii-Cho) the Shii-Cho form is good versus many enemies wielding conventional blaster weaponry. Its simplicity is its strength, making it a very good style to use if all else fails. (Practicioners: Kit Fisto, Stass Allie, Jedi Younglings)
Form II: (Makashi) Form II came about as a means of lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat. It is described as being very elegant, powerful, and requiring extreme precision, allowing the user to attack and defend with minimal effort, while his opponent tires himself out. The form relies on parries, thrusts, and small, precise cuts—as opposed to the blocking and slashing of the other forms. (Practitioners: Count Dooku / Darth Tyranus, Exar Kun, Sev'Rance Tann*, Asajj Ventress*, Komari Vosa*, Darth Sion)
Form III: (Soresu) Form III was developed to counteract the advancing blaster technology throughout the galaxy. Those to whom the Jedi were mainly opposed usually wielded blasters now; the Jedi needed to find a method to defend that could not be replicated or be counteracted by the Jedi's blaster-wielding enemies. Practitioners of Soresu comfortably remain on the defensive until their opponents make a mistake; only then do they strike offensively. (Practitioners: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luminara Unduli, Barriss Offee)
Form IV: (Ataru)The master practitioners of Form IV make extensive use of acrobatic maneuvers often thought not physically possible by using the Force to guide their motion. In order to master Ataru, a Jedi must be able to control his anger, because if he doesn't, his combat becomes aggressive and leads to the Dark side. (PractitionersYoda, Qui Gon Jinn, Emperor Palpatine, Aayla Secura)
Form V: (Djem So) Form V is a powerful style developed by Form III practitioners that preferred a more offensive angle. The defensive nature of Form III often leads to dangerously prolonged combat. This style came about from combining Forms II and III. orm V maintains its existence through having sufficient defensive skills, as derived from Form III, but channeling defense into offense. (Practitioners: Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Plo Koon, Agen Kolar)
Form VI: (Niman) Form VI attempts to balance all elements of lightsaber combat, combining the Forms that came before into a less intensely demanding combat style. The result is that the users' skill in each individual areas of lightsaber combat is only moderate, making Form VI well suited for diplomats, as they can spend their time training in the areas of politics and negotiation instead of combat training. There is, however, one saving grace to this form not mentioned above. Niman is the stepping stone to the dual lightsaber form, known as Jar'Kai. No one who has successfully mastered Jar'Kai has done so without first mastering Niman. (Practitioners Coleman Trebor, numerous Jedi who perished during the Battle of Geonosis, and others)
Form VII (Juyo) Form VII has been an oddity for millennia. It was modified by Jedi Master Mace Windu, who used it to create his Vaapad fighting style. The most challenging and demanding of all forms, Form VII requires intense focus, high levels of skill, and mastery of other forms. Juyo is without question the rarest form, and only three Jedi have ever mastered Vaapad Vapaad gives the user a unique position for fighting Dark Side users, for when mastered, it allows the user to draw upon the Dark Side's strength. In Revenge of the Sith, Mace Windu might have been unable to defeat Sidious had it not been for his mastery of Vaapad. (Practitioners Mace Windu, Sora Bulq, Depa Billaba, Quinlan Vos (incomplete training), Darth Maul, K'Kruhk, Cin Drallig)
As you can see some of these forms of lightsaber combat lean toward the dark or the lightside. Let's say if you are Master Lightsaber and you area Dark Jedi then you would get an offensive bonus if you picked Form II or Form VII If you were a light Jedi you would gain half the bonus a Dark Jedi would get because those forms aren't really aligned with Light Jedi. I think this would satisfy that uniqueness that some people would look for, and It would be very interesting to see how battles would end up. Most of this information i got came from Starwars Wiki which is an awesome sight. It delves into many interesting things i didn't know about starwars. I also have a book that has a crap load of Darkside powers that aren't even mentioned in this game that will post later. Tell me if you like this post and i'll go ahead and post some sub classes to the other jedi Trees. Thanks.. and take care.

I played WoW for about 8 months, had two level 60's, and i'll tell you this: SWG is MUCH more flexible with character templates. I'll try to make this short, and it may only make sense if you have seen the WoW talent trees or if you've ever experienced a Diablo 2-esque skill tree progression.
In WoW, there are 9 character classes: Mage, Warlock, Priest, Rogue, Druid, Hunter, Shaman, Paladin and Warrior. There are three talent trees for each, each with seven tiers of skills. You can only get to the seventh tier of ONE of those talent trees since you have a limited number of talent points. So, for any given character there are only reallythreeviable specs (templates) that you can do. Some, due to the uselessness of certain talent trees (survival hunters) only have 2 viable specs. At max, you have 9 times 3, or 27, different types of characters in WoW.
SWG gives you the flexibility of 20+ combat classes, distinct branches with different skills in each, different modifiers and skills in specific boxes, etc.... to make a long story short, SWG gives the player an undeniably larger selection of unique templates than a game like WoW.

You gotta admit, it'd be some nice content, beside being 1.5x stronger than the average fully templated character. (which we're not but they tell us we are)

I guess what i was saying was more along the lines of uniqueness. Right now imho there are too many templates that are the same. Many people have Master Defender or Master Lightsaber, Some have both, in rare cases some people may not have any. I was just looking to go beyond just the Master Lightsaber and into something that would be different for example.
you could have to pvpers with the following template, Master Defender/ Master Lightsaber (Form I and II) vs. Master Defender Master Lightsaber (Form IV and III). While these two templates are the same, there specific mastery will determine the outcome of the battle and not just who has the best foods and saber!!. Know what im sayin?
