Thread: Is Lightning worth getting?

For some reason I'm really stuck on getting force lightning. I think it'd be pretty fun to have, as not every Jedi has it...

why is it not that popular? Are there major drawbacks (other than it sucks up force)?

Jedi isn't worth getting anymore.

good question, one that has also been on my mind as well as i approach my last phase... i'd really like to have mls/mdef/4x4x powers... but without any healing or channeling i'm afraid this template wouldnt last very long in pvp, although it could be very fun to play... i hear force lightning isn't very much worth it, it does look very cool though, but i hear the damage output to force cost ratio is unbalanced... can anyone else back this up?

Lighting isn't that helpful for a dabbler. The reason is that your 'force damage' is picked up piece by piece from every Powers box you get. So, for instance, if you just get Powers 1000 you will have like 10% of the damage that lightning can do -- these are not accurate figures since I can't get at my skill tree to check it, but I'm just doing this as an example of what I'm saying. The Novice box gives you some powers damage .. then each box in the trees gives a bit more -- kind of like Defender gives you a bit of basic defense at Novice, then more with each box. The difference is that if you 'just' want force defense from Defendant you can pick 0040 ... 'just' states is 0004, etc. For powers you can't just pick a branch -- it's the whole tree that does it.

So if you just want it for atmosphere more power to you. If you want it for a viable attack you really should get master powers. Same for the other powers attacks. The only real dabbler line in powers that I'd suggest is 0400 for cloak.

Hmmm, ok, I'll think about it then. Would 4400 Powers be a waste as well?

Only real useful skill in powers without mastering it is cloak. All else pretty much requires you to master the prof. to make it really effective.

You would have to low accuracy without mastery
