SOE, like any other company is just out to make money. When it comes down to ethics, morals, or money, most corporations choose the latter. Unfortunately what many of these executives that make the decisions don't understand is that sometimes in order to make money you have to lose money. Sure, siphoning money for the expansion from a majority of your player base will generate some quick revenue, and yes, simplifying the game to make it more compatible with console gaming systems will bring in new players. However, you are losing a lot of loyal players--people who have been playing the game for one year, two years, or even since its release. Most console gamers play a game for a few months and then move on to the next new game to hit the market.
This "new game enhancement" will be the eventual demise of Star Wars Galaxies. It was a poorly thought-out strategy to betray your existing player community in order to cater to a different type of gamer. The combat system might've had its share of problems, but there was no reason to change both the combat system and the profession variability. There is no justification for ripping the game apart like this; breaking it down to such basic elements. It was so diverse and capable of being satisfactorily playable if only the producers and development team used their heads and put some real, genuine effort into doing so. The best effort comes from people who want something to work, not people who are paid to get something to work. I congratulate you on your utter failure.
