Thread: In The Name of Bacc

There has been alot of anger in these forums recently that I beleive is justified... however, I dont feel that any anger twoards our correspondant Bacc is warrented and I will try to explain why...


A few weeks ago, I had a few ideas that I wanted to share withpeople, posting on the forums got me nowhere, so I PM'ed Bacc. We got onto a TS server and talked for more than two hours...and I learned alot in that time about how the system works.


Bacc is tied by three diffrent contracts...three about what he can or can't say on the forums. It has to be approved by lucasarts, SOE, and an immediate higher-up. He can't violate any of these given contracts or he will swiftly be given the boot.


This of course isn't that bad you might think...but there is also another few elements to be thrown into the mix here.... 1. The current situation in this forum is so volitile it would be almost impossible for him to gain approval to say anything relating to his own opinions. 2. The Devs of SWG think (with complete accuracy I might add) That the community is so literal that anything they say to us will immediately be torn to pieces and given a thousand definitions that weren't intended in the first place.


Let me give an example to my first point, Garva makes a post in this forum...and immediately gets such an overwhelming response that it now exceeds 45 pages. (BTW this thread isn't to discuss that) So if something is even slightly (by even a letter or a missing punctuation mark) inaccurate or unintended...this community will go haywire.


Example of my second point, we had a few weeks ago an interview (as I would call it) with the devs about certian matters that envolved the new expansion. Now while they didn't say much...every single thing they did say was torn to pieces in (I want to say hundreds) of diffrent threads in this forum,


I truthfully think it unfair of this community to start to blame our correspondant, given what he has to go through just to post his own opinion. Although I cant speak in support of the devs (given that I dont agree with the descisions they've made) I also think this community could go a long way twoards trying to think for even a second about how they tear into every comment the devs make.


Its like offering a lion a scrap of meat...you are afraid you'll loose your hand


I'd like to think during that discussion that lasted such a long time with our correspondant that I learned something important about the functionallity of this whole operation, I also hope that people reading this thread can also be educated by what they see... I will try to answer any additional questions that I might know the answer to but might have forgotten (about functionality, not the game itself).


BTW: I am not asking that you stop being angry about what has happened...but I am asking you to at least understand part of the reason why they might be afraid to answer us

Bacc is certainly not to blame. He is just the messenger.


I wouldnt want his job after this shambles.

Well see his position is not a job you get money in return for the services provided he is more like a intern so to speak

So i dont think he is at fault at all i do agree with that

Very well written, it is nice to see that cooler heads are starting to prevail here, instead of the mass riot we had a few hours ago.

Yes, mass riot's dont accomplish much more than frustration these days

while i agree that Bac isn´t to blame for the changes, i can´t see him fighting for our cause either, at least he´s not communicating at all that he is with us.


yes, he doesn´t get payed for his job, but still he volunteered for it, so he should do it and serve the community.


he might do a good job on the corro forums, but he isn´t keeping the community up to date with what he does, so we have to assume he isn´t doing much. while he certainly isn´t allowed to tell us everything the Devs tell him, he should be allowed to tell us what he tells the Devs. just look at the outrage the latest change has caused, he could have told us that he is with us and clearly against it and raised his concerns on the coro forums. i´m sure he has the support of all the melee coros there, then he could have told us that too.


let´s just look at what he has done so far and how he did communicate with us:


we had all those nice focus threads for defender, lightsaber, enhancer etc, we all gave him our feedback, but where is his? what did he do with the input he got from us? did he summarize it and forwarded it to the Devs? where is the summarization, why didn´t he made it public? so i have to assume he put those thread up just for fun.


then our main concern, that premium/flawless pearls aren´t dropping and giving every post-cu jedi a huge disadvantage with their intended weapon. Tiggs posted we can´t expect a fix for that in the very near future and all he had to say was Thanks for the info Tiggs? Hello????? Most of the Jedis have a LS that does only half the dmg of a rifle, prolly even less. Seeing he posted several times already that he has a perfect saber and then reading he only thanks Tiggs for the update makes me really wonder if he is at all fighting for us or just doesn´t care since he has an uber saber? this thread has over 1.4k replies, no one is happy with this and most said that it is unacceptable, still do we see him fighting for us? No.


Same with pub 24, where do we see him fighting for us? Nowhere.


All in all he can´t make any changes, but what he can and should do is keeping us updated with the feedback he forwards to the Devs. Since he isn´t doing that everyone gets p!ssed with him.
