Thread: A lighter observation of the effects of Publish#24 (not a rant or whine)...

(Disclaimer: Yes I have a Jedi AND a MBH char. This is just a pure neutral observation.)

I noticed something last night. It was wonderful, wierd, and erie all at the same time. It started in Theed. When I logged on, I noticed the normal amount of Jedi running, dueling, mouthing off, etc. But then the flood began. Wave after wave of unrelenting Bounty Hunters summerily slaughtered ALL of the Jedi, both new and Knight. Some Jedi would return, only to be airconditioned in the head with a well placed instakill to the temple. Then it happened: ...The quiet.

No "SWOOSH" of Jedi healing.
No "SNAP BZZZZZZ" of sabers.
No challenges, no threats, no leet.
No mobs of people... It was quiet. It was nice. It reminded me of Pre-CU, people Zoning in and going about their business. The occasional BH would show up, patrol the area, then leave.

I left to Dantoine Mining outpost and after questioning a few of the locals, found out the same scenario played itself out over there too. And for the first time in I don't know how long, there were people at the MO actually forming low to mid ranged hunting groups (the few people that WERE there)! But the place was a skelleton of it's former days. The mining outpost was a meer ghost town compared to before.

I thought about it. Seems that people got their wish: The Jedi went into hiding. The problem is now that the server was empty. I went into space to finish my bugged mining ship quest...Even space was more empty than usual...cold...lonely.

I went home and logged off in boredom.

Think about Pre-CU. You could go to Coronet, Theed, Mining Outpost, Science Outpost (on Dath), and Bestine, and find numerous people in and around talking, going about playing the game. Then CU which alot of the community didn't want. Then you could go to those same places and they are mere phantom images of what they were. Fast forward to pre24, people are telling the Devs this game breaking change is uneeded and unwanted by most. ( Don't want to say everyone, some people are into the instakills and no challenge PvP.) People have been saying since CU that this game will be in the trash by beginning of year or so, and I am starting to believe it. I am a casual gamer with 3 kids and don't have the time to regrind 5 million xp, which is about what I lost since CU, to a new change that is so game breaking. I know there be those flames to learn your template, but when a class (melee, not just Jedi) can't even get in range to fight, there is a major problem. So I guess what it is coming down to is that you will only be playing with the people that don't have Jedi, because secondary character or not, I am tired of a company that so blatantly ignores it's customer base, and I will not be renewing any of my 3 accounts. Good luck and hope you don't find yourself as bored as you did last night.

Wow...I've already received a couple of PMs about my post and the apparent contradiction of the publish being good or bad. Just a note to the readers: That is EXACTLY my point of the post. There is a duality, a "Catch-22", a "bad with the good" that I noticed. I both liked and hated the results of this publish: I like the quiet and less Jedi, but I hated the emptiness left as people just stopped playing.

Maybe it was just because of the immediate retribution felt from the community. Maybe it really was a mass exodus. Maybe it was just no one was in the mood to play. We'll see.

I agree with you 100%. Some of my best memories are setting in dant mo buffing people and taking part in fights with all the duel spammers. When the game lost the need to communicate with people for reasons other than to get a group it slowly began to die. Look in group chat, nearly no conversation goes on between group memebers. Now think back to the old pre cu solo groups, everyone was talkin about some of the funniest stuff i've ever read in game. Pub 24 is driving a lot of people away from the game, not just jedi but melee too, you cant have a game where one profession can totally dominate anyone, reguardless of their template or skill, in 2 shots, its just not good buisness. The day i was 3 shotted by a pistoller, through aura, was the day i lost belief in the longevity of SWG.

The comedy of it all (and still amazes me) is that NOT ONE SINGLE Dev has come on to say "We are aware of your concerns and are working on a solution to appease everyone."

Nothing.

Silence.

In this case, silence is NOT golden.

QFE.

As Jedi/TKM myself i'm hiding in my house. Still there are just a few people (mostly guildies and close friends) that know I'm a padawan. I don't show off any forcespecials when going to town. Yet, I've gotten vis: people driving into me when i'm doing some missions on endor with fellow guildies. I don't ask for that, but It's something I live with.

To be *punished* because of that while having *no* answer to the current root/snare problem is baffling me. And the Rancor-drink is not cutting it (as read on other forums).

Getting vis, getting killed because of it, needing to regrind it back for next skill, spin-groups and showoffhas been the vicious circle that let to the jedi hatred and all these nerves and fixes.

It's not just a jedi problem. It's a melee class problem while a Ranged class is now FOTM.

Well personally I do not PvP because I want to, I'm more into the PvE aspect of this game (or any MMORPG for that matter), unfortunately most of my friends are into the PvP and because of things like the ones mentioned in this post they stop playing. Now I have to admit I've not been playing much because I got into the Alpha Test for Dungeons & Dragons Online, but I do try and atleast log into SWG 5 days a week even if it's only for 15-30 mins to check harvesters, mail or chat with friends. So even though this really hurts PvP people more than it hurts me, it still effects me by removing my friends from the game!!

Very good post BTW, I was looking forward to the ToOW becayse of the new PvE content and I've been an avid badge collector since they introduced them way back when, however if I'm going to be hunted and killed by Bounty Hunters who actually like PvP then I may just play my other games (Civilization IV comes out next week) until things change. The snares I can deal with, I have a snare too.... it's the 7k hits that people are reporting that are really bugging me.

No flame or anger here in my comments here either. Imagine what the game will be like when all the Jedi leave the game, along with all their alts and 2nd, 3rd, 4th...nth accounts. Jedi are the veterans and typically have crafter alts and more than one account. I have 2 accounts. My alt is MBH/MBE, MBE to support my 2nd account which is a master chef. The game population has taken a huge hit since the CU. My guild is all but dead (we have like 10 peeps that log ocassionallynow vs 40 or so pre-cu). It's sad to me. I miss the people that have left. We lost another guy last night and his 2 accounts (yes he is a Jedi). Seems to me, the devs keep giving peeps a reason to leave, but that's just my opinion. I actually left for 5 months when the CU hit becauseI couldn't grind my Jedi. I came back a little over a month ago, reactivated my chef and am making foods again. The BH was for loot but as a MBH/MBE he is only CL57 and can't get the high end loots. I use him mainly to hunt meat for my chef and as a BE to make tissues for my chef. Last night, I resigned myself to taking my CL3 chef into space as there didn't seem to be anything else for me to do. I'm a chef to support my Jedi. If I can't play my Jedi I won't play my chef. If I don't play my chef, I won't need or play my BE.So, Iwill be gone too, unless they fix this, and I fully expect that they will, in time. IMO, the solution to all this, at least for us Jedi, is totake us off the BH terms. Think of all the grief and ill will that will go away with that one change to the game. BH existed before Jedi and hunted NPCs. Let them go back to that. Let us be 1x-1.5x other profs and be free to play our toons at will, out in the open, doing the same junk everyone else does cause that's all we are capable of now. I will settle for that. I will not settle for 1) Not playing my Jedi, 2) Only hunting mobs (non-NPCs)in some remote area, 3) Get attacted/killed by BH everytime I log. Who would?

I really liked the post.

These forums cannot be considered truly representative of the player base...we tend to represent the extremes. I picked up SWG to play a Jedi. Others picked it up for a non-Jedi experience. Neither of us is right...but we are so extreme and so planted in our views that these forums often degenerate to civil war.

There are also the trolls...but I guess we all have our own definitions of trolling. The trolls aren't the younger players...the trolls are the immature players, in my opinion.

The truth about this game is found in places like the Mining Outpost. Now things are different. Somewould say better, some would say worse. The devs will not give us the courtesy of a response or explanation. I guess we are all waiting to see if this will get better orworse, depending on our reasons for playing.

For me, it has been quite roller coaster, but the ride looks like it is coming to an end. I came to play a Jedi...not to be uber, but not to be slaughtered. I was looking forward to TOOW, and the storyline, but now it isn't worth the pain of being half way through a quest then killed or griefed miserably before I can finish it.

I've played this game for too long. I wasn't obsessive...but I definitely neglected other games. I actually came to think that this game saved me money, since I wasn't out buying a new game or two every few weeks. Part of me is relieved that the game I wanted to play is finally finished; that Pub 24 is the endgame. It is actually so appropriate that, just as Star Wars ended with the end of the Jedi, so does this game conclude, for me, with the end of my profession as I wanted to play it.

Good luck to everyone who stays...and I still might...I hope you find what you were looking for in this game.

What the jedi haters seems to not realise, is that jedi characters are players too,
And when a jedi player quit, the community have lost some thing very important in this time of the game, a player.
the servers are too emty now...

this is a sad day

Don't argue with idiots, they just drag you down to their lvl and beat you with experience!!
