So, everyone always recommends getting the melee defence line in defender, but improved valor and the state defence/other defences seems like it'd be MUCH better.

Does Improved Valor stack with Improved Aura and Improved Force Armor? I've done tests that show that +25 saber block reduces about 2/3 of incoming shots.... So why isn't it more popular? It draw too much force?

I don't know why it's not more popular. I went 0044.

Prolly cuz most jedi are thinking about FRS. Also, valor reduces the damage you can dish out dramatically.

Because (assuming you have a decent saber), BHs are really only a problem before you finish your template. After you finish your template, they are a nuisance, at best--your real enemies become other Jedi, which means you want the melee defense.

Oh, does Saber block ONLY effect ranged attacks?

Yes, and the damage output statement is a myth. Supposedly pre curb there was one but it's not true now.
