Thread: just a thought on the ever so popular xp loss

I was thinking on something.

If the jedi xp loss was removed from bounty missions and reset into PVE death. Imagine the jedi fighting every BH that comes for them, the BH would still get paid, get their xp, the jedi would have a reason to fight and would be able to do all of the quests. If they die from a pve death, they would lose xp, either the same amoutn or an amount based on the CL of the MOB.

this is not to remove xp loss this is to change it from bounties to pve death.

again, BH's would hunt more fighting jedi who gain vis from doing quests and you will find some jedi die a lot from pve deaths so xp loss would either be the same or a little more based on the risk they take in questing. BH's would not lose payouts, or the ability to hunt jedi. But it weould give the jedi a reason not to run.

thoughts?

Instead of just saying "That's a good idea, I guess. It would increase XP loss while making it less painful (as it's in smaller bits) and reduce the amount of hate between professions," I'm going to wax nostalgic.

Just before Patch 9 came in, I was a little Jedi Initiate running around with my all-pearl, medium-FC glowbat (since soon I could recover the pearls anyway), and there was a thing called the Saber TEF. You were attackable by Overts *and* Coverts of the opposite faction if you had used your lightsaber or any Force power within the last 5 minutes. That's equivalent to any S.F., Combatant *or* On Leave player of the opposite faction, now.

And if you died too much, PVP *or* PVE, didn't matter which, you would lose a skillbox.

Did you freak out and have a hundred near-heart attacks? Yeah. Was it fun? Oh hell yeah. And it could slow down progression without making you lose skills, too, since you had a Death Counter that would decay each death a week after you got it, with a "safety zone" before you became eligable for skill loss, so as an Initiate you could go 3 deaths per week without sinking into the Skill Loss zone, Apprentice 4 and Guardian 5.

I have been playing for over two years and i know what you guys went through. Not easy at all. I suppose my intention was not to make it risk free experiance. that really was not the point of the post. The annimosoty i see between the the two professions has gotten worse over time and for a game, that much hatred should not be generated.

The waythe system is now, there is not any of the advantages or disadvantages you had. And because of a lot of complaints back then jedi was changed with the CU.

the way the system is currently it is also difficult in its own write for a jedi. you never went through the system we have now as a pre 9 jedi. or maybe you have but most likely not. This was just to relieve the tension and to make the game much more fun not just for the jedi but to continue the BH player bounty.

i am not sure if you would consider this a nerf or a pleade for making life easier for a jedi, it very well may make it easier. Xp loss will increase for the jedi who can get involved in the game and still be hunted.

I would suppose a pre 9 jedi would maybe not quite see what exactly jedi now may be dealing with. On a different level of course but still different.

For the record, I've squirmed through a ton of village quests and snagged about half the XP for my current alt (wiped out an alt with two branches filled) to get paddy. And I didn't not like the idea

SOE wants this game to be so much like EQ2....why not make it that way.....give jedi xp dept...not loss.

When they kill a mob a certain % of the xp gained goes to he dept.

I don't think it is a bad idea or good idea, just a thought. Yeah I am a pre-cu jedi, yes I did the holo grind.. yes I unlocked in the village, yes I have played for over 2 years, yes I have thought about this idea a while back ago. The simple fact to me is that I die alot more from PVE simply because I try to kill stuff way out of my legue to solo, and less hunters come for me. I do think it would relieve some of the tention between the 2 professions, and would actually slow down grinding skills for a new jedi (if that is what you are proposing). But on the other hand, isit fair to change the xp issue again? You also have to think, this game is based on a civil war.. of course there is going to be tention between players. IF you ask me, the best option would be to leave xp loss as is, or completely remove it.
