I have no idea why you think this is bad, if anything you may like it. No grinding, No grouping , Time based and done at your own pace.. Like I said, Jedi is change-- if you don't know that yet then you need to read some posts from the last 2 years.

I understand your point, and I acknowledge that i dont know what it was like pre CU, and I wish it never changed, because the stories I hear, are how I wish it still was. Groups of 20, holocrons, krayt pearls, etc. Thats the way I wish it still was.
The reason I see it as bad, is i dont even like it how it is now. I frankly dont like the idea of 500 jedi, let alone 4000. I have been playing for over a year now, and seen alot of changes. I think they need to make it harded again, not easier. When i first started its was holocrons everyone was running around screaming about. I ignored them, because I dont support more jedi during a time when there should be only few, and they should be in hiding. The only reason I want it, is for the extra slot, and im not ashamed to admit it.
My main point is, I dont want it to be easier. In my opinion, it should still be the entire holocrons style. I like the idea of having to experiment thru professions, and I wish I would have been around for the original style. I dont agree with Jedi needingentertainment professions to eventually become a jedi, but oh well, obsulete now anyway.
I kind of enjoy grinding to the goal. It makes me feel more accomplished when u achieve it. At least grinding to jedi, i have something to play with for another 5 months. Some people may find it fun to be able to start as Jedi, but I think it should be a long tedious quest. It should be a lot harder to become a jedi than a dancer.
I mean, if they wanna just get a lightsaber and kill things... Play Episode 3, or KOTOR, or jedi academy, or jedi knight... This one is supossed to be more in depth, and it seems they are killing that aspect.

But see this is why it could work, just because you can start as a Force Sensitive does not mean that you would be Jedi any faster maybe, in fact maybe they COULD slow it down, make it harder based on the quests.
See here is the problem all that is going in the game right now can be done mostly AFK .. in fact with the Ryatt trails back to the way they were people are back there AGAIN doing this. AFK and in two or three weeks your done.
AND YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO BE THERE! So while I see your point this also has value to make the game or at least seem more pleasant. I will be the first to tell you if you asked me this pre CU- I would have told you to shut up. BUT now, this seems almost like part of a revamp and alot better of a control measure -- in fact this needed to be done about a year ago I think to a extent.
With quest based things they can make it take 6 months if they want for the unlock which is where it needed to be a year ago.
Making Melee class into one is totaly in line with the CU and at this rate it might as well be, I mean really a Swordsman with a giant Hammer???? W T F??? Come on??
All the other details in line are not out of wack... this whole thing seems right up SOEs alley and it seems like it could happen and should have months ago. Jedi is not what it used to be, Im more sorry then you could ever be trust me on that, but at this point changing it to control it and manage it MIGHT best way to curb some of this madness if you think about it.
Make it hard but don't make it all based on grinding XP, exploited and AFK for it on a hidden planet you can't be tracked on... FYI Im thinking that the AFK free for all grind on Kashyykk not beeing tracked is not working as intended ... just a hunch tells me this.

W/ the quest based thing 6 months? It's already 3 1/2 months sometimes longer if you want the EXACT FS branches and not just fill'em up. It would really be no different. The AFK grind on Kashyyk is lame I will totally agree to that. But what are you gonna do? We are talking about SOE and well hell I really don't need to elaborate on that. Point is no matter what measures they take there will still be a constant stream of new Jedi appearing. Maybe a slew of new accounts which all in all would be GOOD seeing as some servers have become barren. All I ask is that if/when this happens that the FRS is reintroduced so that the existing Jedi have a goal and aren't left out of the loop.

But see even the repair of the AFK in 3 weeks to full template would be curbed too now. Not to mention the ease of unlocking. People just wait now -- I mean lets face it they would be done in one day if it was not gated at like 2.5 weeks or so.
As far as exsisting Jedi -- crap man each revamp I have been through I feel that it has changed the goal... so I mean that or THIS IS JEDI.Right now the Jedi grind is a joke... we all know this, it's just a fact. What needs to happen is somthing to make it less killing of a creature afk for days on end and more content.
This may be the fix....

#1 - Jedi will be a learnable basic profession, thats why they are being nerfed.
yeh that makes sense, they have enough problems with too many jedi now, so they are making it a normal learnable profession. k, maybe our mayor can set a lil yoda trainer in our city?

The Starter Kit is popping up in more places as a pre-order, and there is a strat guide coming out. There's something afoot, but SOE doesn't want to admit what it is for fear of enraging the subscriber base and having to endure a month of flames and rants.
What amazes me is that over and over again, we've shown SOE that if there is something out there, we will find out. Playing "secret, secret" just ticks us off.

also guys amazon isn't the only store to be able to pre-order from.
I walked into game stop and took a look at their pre-order list, it was right there. I could have gave the cashier 20 bucks and came and got it in a few weeks. Other retailers:
