SITH LORD SIMUS

As rival to the Sith Lord Marka Ragnos, Sith Lord Simus had high hopes for becoming Dark Lord of the Sith after the reigning Dark Lord's death. However, he found his ambitions thwarted by Ragnos, who was also campaigning for the position. Challenging Simus to a duel, Ragnos then decapitated his rival and declared himself Dark Lord of the Sith.

But Simus did not die. Using his powerful Sith magic to keep him alive, he remained as a head which rested in a transparent case. Though he could no longer move and had to be carried by two Sith guards, Simus still carried powerful clout in the Sith empire and his word was respected by all. When two explorers from the distant Republic invaded the empire, Simus was quick to take action, urging the invaders be destroyed as soon as possible.

However, he did not count on treachery from within. Sith Lord Naga Sadow broke into the invaders' prison and carried them off with him. As Simus realized the truth, it was too late. Sith magic was no match for Naga Sadow's Republic blaster, and Sith Lord Simus met his end.

DARK LORD OF THE SITH MARKA RAGNOS

"This is our golden age...Choose your course wisely...fight the correct battles...or else all is lost!"

Very little is certain about the ninth Dark Lord of the Sith, Marka Ragnos. It is known that Ragnos controlled the Sith Empire for over a century. After his death, the problem of succession arose. Two Sith followers, Ludo Kressh and Naga Sadow began a duel to the death to determine who would succeed as the next Sith Lord. However, this battle was interrupted by the sudden appearance of Ragnos's spirit. He reminded Kressh and Sadow of the noble history of their Sith Empire and stated, "This is our Golden Age." He cautioned them to choose their paths wisely and fight only the correct battles or the entire Sith Empire would fall.

Some scholars also believe that it was Ragnos who chose Exar Kun as the Eleventh Dark Lord of the Sith and Ulic Qel-Droma as Dark Sith Apprentice, though this theory remains unproven. Though there is much speculation, both Ragnos's life and death are still shrouded in mystery.

DARK LORD OF THE SITH NAGA SADOW

"I fight for the future. And the future is now!"

One of the two Sith sorcerers vying for the title of Dark Lord of the Sith after the death of Lord Marka Ragnos, Naga Sadow became the tenth Dark Lord after defeating his opponent, Ludo Kressh. Sadow believed that the Sith had become complacent and lazy, and in order to regain the former glory of the empire, he spoke of conquest of other empires. Many Sith Lords, including Kressh and his followers, were enjoying their power and wealth and rejected his idea.

Sadow's path to victory, however, was the two hyperspace Republic explorers, Gav and Jori Daragon. After the two were captured by the Sith, Sadow devised a plan to break them out of the Sith prison and take them to his own private fortress, while convincing the Sith that the Republic had come to rescue them. The ruse worked, and panic-stricken Sith Lords called on Sadow to save them from what they thought was impending doom.

Sadow gleaned the coordinates of the Republic from the Daragon's starship and led a huge army into its heart, intending to conquer it for the Sith empire. However, the Sith ary was repulsed and retreated back to Sith territory. More turmoil awaited them when Sadow discovered that Kressh, thinking Sadow dead, had declared himself Dark Lord of the Sith. Kressh exiled Sadow, who, pursued by Kressh's followers, fled his world in his corsair. In the ensuing battle, Sadow ordered one of his ships to ram Kressh's ship, killing the Dark Lord. Sadow was almost defeated as the Empress Teta sent a fleet to trap him, but he ordered the Sith followers on those ships to attack their lords, using their ships as a barricade for his own flight.

Destroying the double star system Denarii Nova in the process, Sadow escaped to the moon Yavin IV with his followers, who he warped with Sith magic to become the race of Massassi. Sadow used his dark powers and Sith amulet to make monstrous creatures of nightmare and then hid these creatures to guard against any intruder into his domain. Years later, one of these creatures was defeated by Exar Kun, who gained Sadow's amulet.

SITH LORD LUDO KRESSH

"I fight for the Sith Empire, Naga Sadow. You fight for yourself!"

After the death of Lord Marka Ragnos, Ludo Kressh thought himself the logical choice to succeed as next Dark Lord of the Sith. And when his rival, Naga Sadow, showed up late to Ragnos' funeral and then declared himself the dark lord, Kressh was furious. He challenged Sadow to a duel, but both were interrupted when the spirit of Ragnos appeared to them, cautioning them and urging them to strengthen the Sith empire rather than engage in rivalry.

Kressh disagreed with Sadow's policies of conquest, believing that the Sith empire was doing well and that renewed forays into enemy territory would not be wise. Following the lead of many of the Sith Lords, who would rather count their coins than lead an army, he argued his position against Sadow. But Sadow tricked Kressh and was declared Dark Lord of the Sith, continuing the conquests of the Sith into the galaxy.

Kressh, however, was not content to rest as Sadow's underling. After Sadow left to conquer the inner worlds of the Republic and did not return, he saw his chance. Thinking Sadow dead, Kressh declared himself Dark Lord of the Sith. When Sadow returned, he found himself in exile, pursued by Kressh's minions. But Sadow again tricked Kressh and rammed his ship against Kressh's, killing him.

It was a time of peace and prosperity for the Republic. The ranks of the Jedi Knights had swelled, numbering thousands, and promising Jedi were being trained in greater and greater numbers. Among these brightest and most powerful Jedi were Ulic Qel-Droma, his brother Cay, and the Twi'lek Tott Doneeta.

Their master, Arca Jeth, realized that to become truly great Jedi, his students must face danger and learn to use the Force without fear. He therefore dispatched the three to Onderon, a beautiful world with a dark history. On the planet's surface, a civil war had been raging for centuries between city dwellers and the barbaric Beast Riders, named for their talent in riding the great flying beasts native to the planet.

Arriving at the capital city of Iziz, they were received by the royal family of Onderon: the queen Amanoa and her daughter Galia. The Beast Riders attacked, but the Jedi were able to drive them off. However, in the process, the enemy captured Princess Galia. Ulic, Cay, and Tott made their way to the fortress of the Beast Riders, vowing to save the princess from the king of the Riders, Lord Modon Kira. When they arrived, however, they discovered that it was the city dwellers, not the Beast Riders, who were provoking war. Galia also confessed that she wanted to marry the son of the beast lord, Oron and told the Jedi that her parents were dark side users, heirs of the powers of an ancient Sith Lord, Freedon Nadd.

In the face of this shocking discovery, the Jedi revised their battle plans. Ulic traveled back to Iziz to speak to Queen Amanoa, but she refused to give in to his demands and then attacked him with the dark side. Ulic then gave the signal for his Beast Rider allies to attack, seeing battle as the only way to end this conflict and bring peace to Onderon.

However, the Beast Riders were hard pressed by the power of the dark side present in the capital and Cay Qel-Droma was wounded, his left arm cut completely off. As the battle raged on, the Jedi began to lose hope of victory. Victory, however, arrived in the form of Master Arca Jeth, who, with the light side of the Force, pushed back the enroaching darkness.

Arca as well was surprised by the power of the dark side here on Onderon and was determined to discover its source. He found it in the form of the crypt of Freedon Nadd himself. As he and his students opened the crypt, Queen Amanoa was killed by the dark side power emanating from it.

The death of the queen ended the civil war and Galia married Lord Oron. The Jedi had kept the peace once again.

Four thousand years before Star Wars: A New Hope

At the end of the Beast Wars of Onderon, Jedi Master Arca Jeth and his students left the planet of Onderon, their mission at an end. Peace had been restored on the planet in the form of a marriage alliance between the heir of the royal family, Galia, and the prince of the Beast Riders of Onderon, Lord Oron.

This peace quickly proved to be an illusion. The resentment and dark side influence that had ruled the planet for centuries could not be quelled by one simple act. Hearing rumors of unrest from Onderon, Jeth and his students returned to find that there was indeed something wrong. Though his student Queen Amanoa had been killed, the Sith Lord Freedon Nadd still wielded formidable influence on Onderon. In spirit form, he had attracted followers and was now planning to end Queen Galia's rule.

Master Arca quickly took action, transporting the coffins of Freedon Nadd and the newly dead Queen Amanoa to the fourth moon of Onderon, Dxun. Nadd's followers, however, had different plans. They attacked the ships carrying the coffins and made off with the bodies. Galia then took the Jedi to her father, King Ommin, an ailing, withered old man kept alive only by machinery and the dark side of the Force. Showing them Nadd's spirit, Ommin attacked Arca with force lightning. Nadd's minions then attacked the Jedi while Ommin made off with Arca.

Ulic and the others realized that this insurrection was more serious than they had previously thought. He sent distress calls to the planets of Ossus and Coruscant, requesting help. The help quickly arrived in the form of Republic warships and a team of young Jedi knights, among them Nomi Sunrider. As the Republic attacked Iziz and the Naddists, the Jedi made their way to Ulic's distress signal from the fortress of the Beast Riders. That battle won, they then pursued King Ommin, who was trying to keep the Jedi from following him by using his dark side powers.

However, Nomi realized this and used the light side to combat the dark. Ommin defeated her with overwhelming amounts of dark power, but by then it was too late. The Jedi stormed his hidden citadel and demanded Master Arca. The old man lashed out at them with force lightning, but Ulic Qel-Droma slashed through the machinery that held Ommin upright, effectively killing him. As Ommin died, Nadd appeared, threatening them with dark prophecies.

The Jedi rescued Arca and Republic had won once again. But they would find that peace was not so easily kept on the world of Onderon. Nadd's promises of vengeance remained in their memories, and though the battle was over, they would soon find that the war was not.

SITH LORD FREEDON NADD

"If you want to live, there is a power that can save you. Accept the dark side of the Force...let its fathomless energy flow into you...you must surrender to the dark side."

One of the most powerful Sith magicians in the history of the galaxy, Freedon Nadd had hoped to become Dark Lord of the Sith, knowing that only one Sith could hold that exalted position. When it became clear, he was not the one to be chosen, Nadd, wanting a world he could rule, left his homeworld and came to the world of Onderon. With his magic, Nadd made Onderon the focus of dark side power and many Force users were drawn there by Nadd's sorcery. At his death, Nadd's body was mummified and hidden on Onderon by his followers.

Centuries later, Nadd's spirit again arose, inciting dark force users on Onderon to a rebellion, which was put down by the Jedi led by Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider. Nadd's tomb was found by the Jedi Arca Jeth, who then constructed a supposedly impenetrable tomb for the Sith Lord on the Onderon moon of Dxun. Nadd's spirit appeared to vanish after the rebellion but in reality was still trapped on Dxun, waiting for someone to free him and give him back his lost power.

The Jedi Exar Kun, led to the moon by Nadd's followers, found Nadd's spirit haunting the tombs. Nadd ordered Kun to lift up his mummified body and take Sith scrolls that would give him power. Nadd's plan was to use Kun to restore his corporeal body so he could rule Onderon once more. However, Kun saw through Nadd's scheming and destroyed Nadd with a Sith amulet made by Naga Sadow. Nadd's spirit body disintegrated, never to return.

The Sith War
Four thousand years before Star Wars: A New Hope

The rise of Exar Kun to the position of Dark Lord of the Sith shook the Republic to its core, but the turning of Ulic Qel-Droma to the dark side to become Kun's Sith apprentice presented a far more serious problem. For now, Kun had an ally who had once been in the inner ranks of the Republic. An ally who knew many of the Republic's secrets and weaknesses. And the Republic had lost a loyal Jedi.

The Sith base was on Yavin IV, where Kun ruled over his tribe of Massassi. Though Ulic had killed Satal Keto, leader of the Krath, a spinoff branch of the Sith, Keto's cousin Aleema was still alive and well. A powerful Sith magician, Aleema helped unite the Krath under her lover, Ulic. Another ally of the Sith was the mysterious warrior Mandalore.

Building a fleet to rival the fleet of the Republic, Kun waged an all-out war against the galactic government, calling for an overthrow of the old Jedi order and the establishment of a new Golden Age of the Sith. He attacked various strategic points in Republic defense and at the same time seduced many budding young Jedi to the dark side, persuading them to kill their masters and join him. Among the Jedi Kun seduced was Crado, his fellow student under Master Vodo-Siosk Baas. The Sith then launched their greatest offensive: an attack on the capital of the Republic itself-Coruscant.

The Coruscant attack, however, did not go as planned. Ulic Qel-Droma, betrayed by Aleema, was captured by Republic forces and tried for war crimes and treason. As Ulic sneered at the assembled audience, Kun and Mandalore broke into the courtroom and rescued him, using a Sith spell that rendered all those in the room immobile except for the Sith. Kun's old master, Vodo Siosk-Baas, attempted to detain his student, trying to make Kun realize how far he had fallen to the dark side. In a rage, Kun struck his master down.

After the rescue, Kun decided it was time for more drastic measures. Underneath the ruins of the Yavin temples, Kun had found Naga Sadow's ship, still intact for over a thousand years. Aboard this ship was a superweapon designed by Sadow to destroy worlds. As revenge for what she had done to Ulic, Ulic and Kun sent Aleema to ambush Republic forces using the weapon. When she activated it, the weapon caused the sun of the Cron Cluster to supernova, destroying most of the system and Sadow's ship, which Aleema had been aboard. One of the worlds in the system was Ossus, on which the Jedi Library had been housed for millenia.

By this point many of the Republic Jedi had despaired of ever stopping the Sith. But Nomi Sunrider, one of the strongest Jedi and formerly in love with Ulic Qel-Droma, still believed that he could be redeemed. She launched a rescue mission, composed of herself, Ulic's brother Cay, and many of Ulic's former friends, to save the man she had once loved. But Ulic would not listen. Finally, Cay, desperate to turn his brother back, forced Ulic into a duel with him. But Cay's skill was no match for Ulic's anger and his Sith arts, and he was killed.

The death of his brother shocked Ulic and he knelt by Cay's body, weeping. Grief-stricken at the tragic death of her friend, Nomi gathered her Force powers and, using a Jedi trick taught to her by Odan-Urr, former keeper of the Jedi Library on Ossus, blocked Ulic from the Force. The realization that he could no longer feel the Force forced Ulic to accept that he had been wrong all this time. Gathering what little strength he had left, he led Republic forces to Yavin IV to destroy the Sith and Exar Kun.

Republic forces incinerated the Yavin jungle and destroyed many of the Sith temples that Sadow and Kun had built. But Kun, discovering Ulic's treachery, had drained the life force from a massive gathering of his Massassi warriors to keep himself alive as the Jedi tried to destroy him. He succeeded, to a degree, becoming a spirit trapped within the walls of the Yavin temples. The rest of the Massassi were burned along with the forest and the Sith race passed into history.

SITH LORD ULIC QEL-DROMA

"You are puppets of tradition pretending to be important. The coming golden age has no place for you. Your Republic is an empty self-indulgent diversion... signifying nothing. The lost glory of the Sith will turn all of your supposed accomplishments to dust."

Once a student of Master Arca Jeth on the world of Onderon, Ulic Qel-Droma was a warrior and Jedi of the Republic. He was instrumental in the Beast Wars of Onderon, helping to stop the spirit of the Sith Lord Freedon Nadd from regaining his ancient power.

After Arca was killed in a surprise attack sent by the Sith magicians Satal and Aleema Keto from the Empress Teta System, Qel-Droma vowed to avenge the death of his master. Disregarding the advice of older Jedi, he set off to the Teta System to "conquer the dark side from within." As with many young and naive Jedi, Qel-Droma was instead seduced by the dark side and fell under the spell of Sith magic.

Gaining a Sith amulet from Aleema, Qel-Droma was confronted by Exar Kun. In the midst of their duel, the two saw a vision of power from the ancient Dark Lords of the Sith, proclaiming Kun the Sith Lord and Qel-Droma the Sith Apprentice. Joining forces, the two fought to create a dark empire. Qel-Droma soon gained the allegiance of the Krath, led by Aleema, and the mysterious warrior race the Mandalorians.

However, Ulic's friends did not give up hope of turning him back to the light side. After Qel-Droma struck down his brother Cay, his former lover Nomi Sunrider used her powers to block him from feeling the Force. Finally realizing his mistake, Qel-Droma betrayed Kun and led his light-side friends to Yavin IV, where Kun's corporeal body was destroyed.

After this, Ulic felt he could no longer face his friends, and hired a space merchant to take him to the ice planet of Rhen Var, where he was resolved to spend the rest of his days, as penance for the wrong he had done when he had been a Sith Lord. He did not count on the resourcefulness of his friends, however. Nomi Sunrider's daughter Vima Sunrider sought him out, asking him to teach her the Jedi ways. At first he refused, claiming he was no longer a Jedi since he could not feel the Force. But finally he relented and as he taught Vima, he found peace within himself.

Nomi and the Jedi Knight Sylvar, searching for Vima, found her with Ulic. They confronted him and he admitted his faults. Before they could complete their reunion, however, Ulic was shot by the space trader whom he had trusted to bring him to Rhen Var. He died surrounded by his closest friends, in the light once more.

DARK LORD OF THE SITH EXAR KUN

"Master, do you really know who I am? I am the Dark Lord of the Sith."

Four thousand years before the Galactic Civil War, an ambitious young Jedi Knight under the tutelage of Master Vodo-Siosk Baas began delving into the mysteries of the Sith in his master's holocron. At first, Exar Kun was merely curious, anxious to learn more about Jedi history. This innocent curiosity soon turned into a full-fledged obsession, causing Kun to unleash his anger upon one of his fellow students and eventually his own master. Kun then left his master to pursue the Sith teachings of Freedon Nadd, whose followers had just been put down following the Freedon Nadd Uprising.

Nadd's followers led Kun to the Dxun moon where he found Nadd's spirit haunting the ruins of his tomb. Nadd urged Kun to take the scrolls resting under his corpse, then brought him to the world of Korriban. Promising Kun great power, Nadd instead trapped Kun and then forced the young Jedi, broken and dying, to accept life through the Dark Side of the Force, thus severing Kun's grasp of the light side forever.

Kun then left Nadd, heading for the moon of Yavin IV, where former Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow had reigned, but found that Nadd had arrived ahead of him. Kun however refused Nadd's help and the dark side. The Massassi, Sadow's warped Sith followers, captured Kun and prepared to use their Sith magic to torture and kill him, but one of Sadow's Sith monsters broke free of its prison, attacking Kun. Kun through the Dark Side wrenched Sadow's Sith amulet from the hands of the Massassi priest and used it to kill first the monster and then Nadd when he tried to interfere. Thus gaining the loyalty of the Massassi, Kun proceeded to erect huge temples on Yavin IV as bastions of Sith power.

Hearing that a Sith pretender had risen in the Sith citadel of Empress Teta, Kun and a few of his Massassi guards landed there with the purpose of killing this imposter. Instead, the so-called "pretender," Ulic Qel-Droma, engaged Kun in a duel. Both were master swordsmen and neither gained an advantage until the spirit of Marka Ragnos appeared to them, pronouncing Kun the Dark Lord of the Sith and Qel-Droma as Sith Apprentice, and proclaiming the rise of a new Sith Empire.

Counting himself, Qel-Droma, and his Massassi as practically invincible, Kun then proceeded to attack the Republic. Kun managed to gain the loyalty of his former fellow apprentice and enemy, Crado, and also gained a large following of Sith followers. Kun split his troops between himself and Qel-Droma, and launched what became known as the Sith War. Qel-Droma was captured once by the Republic, but Kun managed to storm the trial and rescue him. He also stormed the Jedi Republic stronghold, killing his own master in the process.

However, Exar Kun did not count on the one weak link in his plan: Ulic Qel-Droma. Confronted by his friends, Qel-Droma in his rage killed his brother and was stripped of his Force powers by Nomi Sunrider. To attone for his guilt, he led the Jedi to Kun's base of power on Yavin IV. However, though the Sith were destroyed, Kun kept himself alive by draining the life force from all the Massassi under his control.

He remained trapped in the temples of Yavin for over 4,000 years while power passed from the Old Republic to the Empire and the Rebel Alliance established a base there. Though using the temples as a military base, the Alliance felt a strange darkness emanating from some of them and were hesitant to enter them.

This period of limbo was broken by the arrival of Luke Skywalker, who wanted to establish a Jedi Academy, or praxeum, on the moon. Kun began appearing to his students in visions, destroying one of them, Gantoris, and turning the strongest one, Kyp Durron, to the Dark Side. As a self-proclaimed Dark Lord of the Sith, Durron used his dark Force powers to wreak havoc among the Imperial fleets, and with the help of Exar Kun, almost killed Skywalker. Durron soon realized his shortcomings and Kun's lies, however, and returned to the Academy, combining with the other students to free Skywalker and destroy Kun once and for all with the light side of the Force. The power of the Sith had finally come to an end.

In order to live as a Jedi, we need to understand the basic and fundamental beliefs we carry. To do this requires insight, dedication, and the desire to learn. Most importantly, it requires your faith in the Force.

Many adepts who learn about the Jedi ways tend to forget the core values in which we all started. If you are one of these persons, we hope you are willing to first focus on the small and vital creeds before you focus on grander and more advanced teachings. Without a core foundation, a Jedi will fall when conflicts arise. Without an understanding of these principles, one will never master the Jedi ways.

Be perpared before the storm. Our creeds are very important, for we all must face them when conficts rise within ourselves and others. It is about our faith...what we believe in. What our principles are. What we teach each other as well as ourselves. And simply who and what we are. We must understand that our creed is what makes us, we don’t make it. We didn’t invent it, it invented us. We believe what we believe because we are what we are. Created from life itself.

The Jedi creed is the faith in a Force that exists in all things. We are one with it. We can’t run away from it simply because it exists within ourselves. Remember the Force is with as well as within you, and by being the caretakers and the peacemakers, by representing the true, the honorable, and the just, we live as Jedi. We are Jedi.

You see, I don't really know what to say other than to speak of what my motivation is - the pure motivation of why I am here and why I need to make this clear. The Jedi need something to read, something to guide them towards a better understanding of themselves. What I give to you today is a simple origin, a starting point for where you can begin to learn and experience the Jedi ways. It has to start somewhere for me - it is the same for you as well.

As me, it is our job to define who we are or no one will know what we are about. Those who are able to define our ways can lead the way for others to follow. I hope you, the one who is reading this lecture, are both a leader as well as a follower - most of all, a leader. The Jedi cannot exist without a strong willed, dedicated person who is willing to get up every day and spread the truth of his or her wisdom. It is these leaders which help define who we are, how we live, and what we do in order to change ourselves for the better. Yet what about you?

The origin of Jedi starts with the belief in yourself to make a change. You are living a life which can be lived better. You can experience more than you are now. Yet many of us are afraid to change, afraid to act, to lead, to motivate, to set examples and consequences for ourselves. To be independent and to focus on the shoulds and needs instead of always what we want. It is to discover what you are supposed to do in this world.

The Jedi way is a path of discovery. Some call it a pathless path, for it is a path which is discovered. A Jedi focuses on the self to rise up the energies to exist, to maintain other parts and functions, and situations. Within each Jedi lies the very seed to create an arsenal of knowledge, and to apply the knowledge we have to all who are willing to hear what is said.

Remember what I say, because it is important. The origin must begin with the seed to do, the seed to act, and the seed to execute. A Jedi is one who believes in the Force, acts with the Force, and works with the Force in order to do what should be done.

To give people that do not know much about a Jedi and their history a better understanding of what a Jedi was, is, and will become. Not everyone knows about who Exar Kun is. The only blip of information we get about him is while we are loading to Dantooine sometimes. I'm not sure if you actually read some of the posts we made but I personally thought it was a good read. For those that got sick and tired of the "Guess My Profession" threads among others they seemed to have enjoyed it as well. You may not hold the same opinion as I do but that is fine, I'm just trying to add "Content" into the Jedi forums.

"In order to live as a Jedi, we need to understand the basic and fundamental beliefs we carry."

"the pure motivation of why I am here and why I need to make this clear. The Jedi need something to read, something to guide them towards a better understanding of themselves. "

"it is our job to define who we are or no one will know what we are about. Those who are able to define our ways can lead the way for others to follow. "

""That is why you failed..."

"The ancient Jedi Masters knew that Jedi training must proceed at a slow pace. Too much power gathered too quickly can corrupt even the most selfless and devout Jedi apprentice. A Jedi student must be properly humble in his powers, and mature enough to embrace the tremendous responsibility that comes with wielding the Force. A student impatient with the slow pace of the tutorship, a gifted student eager to dispense with 'pointless excercises' and embrace the true power of the Force misses the entire point of being a Jedi. The Jedi does not crave power, but seeks to serve others, without the expectation of becoming 'great in the Force'. The true Jedi is cautious, and reluctant to learn too much too quickly. Overeager students run a fearful risk of opening themselves up to the temptations of taking the deceptively easy path of the Dark Side." - Mitth'raw'nurida"
