Thread: Why should Jedi fight bounty hunters?

Personaly, I enjoy fighting the BH when they come for me. The fight usualy lasts between 20 seconds, and one minute. After I have wiped the countyside with them, I gives me great pleasure to tell the exactly how pathetic they are, as is my right as a Dark Jedi.

I also enjoy finding that I am fighting one of the rare BH that actually know their characters, have decent gear, and give me a run for my money, and at times theyeven collect my bounty. Trust me, I now realize that well played BH are rare. Sometimes a realy good BH can beat me, and I givea /nod tothose BH that arecapable of beating me in a straight up fight.

But to be hunted by a BH that lasts no longer than 30 seconds is freaking insulting, especially when they start calling you lucky after you turn them into quenker bait. After a 10 to 30 min fight, aye, luck may have been on your side, but after a 30 second fight, luck had nothing to do with it, only stupidity on the part of the BH that came light and got schooled.

ATM, I have only met 2 BH (that have hunted me) that are worthy of my respect. They fought well, and they both beat me. As for the other BH that I have slaughtered, well, they have a special place in my characters BIO, listing name, guild, and fight duration.

I so love adding names to that list.

Also, the excuses that Jedi use to run away from bounty hunters are the EXACT reasons why bounty hunters have no problem DB'ing a Jedi who was incapped by a piket, or jumping a Jedi when they are attacking a lair, ... because most are no-skill-having newbs who would run at the first opportunity they have. So the best way to complete a mission is to strike Jedi in these underhanded scenarios.

It's a no-win situation for bounty hunters. If a bounty hunter waits for the Jedi to get ready for a fight, the Jedi force runs out of there and doesn't fight. If a bounty hunter doesn't wait for the Jedi to get ready for a fight and jumps the Jedi when he is attacking a lair, the bounty hunter gets called all sorts of obscene names saying he's a cheater or dishonorable.

There is nothing a Jedi wouldn't do to lie, cheat or steal. It's the reason I hunt the lot of them.

Wow! you truly have a warped sense of reality.

If you were the one being attacted when you least expected it, (or perhaps even AFK for the brief moment taking a leak). Ill bet the only reasonyou didn't curse the person out is because you just threw your keyboard across the room enragedat just the thought of spending the nextHOUR or two getting out of the XP hole you were just put in.

POST-CU fix for j00

I suppose If I didn't have a Job and a RL, I could very well do that every day. Happily I do,

But, I suppose if I could log in and get a buff and all my buddys just happen to be on line and want to spin with me right when i log on for the day. that just might be possible. Given I can afford to play more than 2 hours and things go just right.

Please excuse me for my Post-CU error.

I agree with you. I abhor grinding. When I switched my template around a couple of weeks ago I nearly pulled my hair out from the boredom -- and I only grinded TWO branches of an elite combat profession. I can't even imagine the boredom each Jedi I've killed goes through to earn back 452k Jedi XP. It would take me a heck of a lot longer than an hour to get back 452k Jedi XP. It's the entire reason I have not pursued force sensitivity -- it's a silly, unrewarding pursuit and it boggles my mind why people still do it just so they can be a little more powerful than everyone else.

If i want to play an overpowered toon, ill make my unlock back into a swordsman doc, or a bh/cm. As a non PvP'er who unlocked over a year ago, and is still grinding today, i say meh to that statement. Ive stood and fought the 30 bh's who have come for my bounty, beat 24, lost to 6(one was a 2 man team who didnt db). My last fight was against a MCM/BH and after 40 minutes i realised that if he knows what he's doing(and he did) he has a god template. my new goal ingame is to not fight. if you want to come for me, go ahead, but all your going to see is +CLOAK+,

Because jedi is a PvP prof, nothing more. If your a grinder then fine run, if not maybe you should stay and fight, learn about pvp and how to use your skills. When a Bh comes for me its a matter of pride sometimes i win sometimes i die and as a bh when i fight a jedi and watch him run at the first sight or root/run/cloak i wonder how well he/she is going to do when the FRS comes back

If you dont want to be hunted, please delete your jedi.

This person dosnt know what there talking about obviously , jedi isnt a pvp class its intent wasnt jsut to pvp tunder the old system knights were 24/7 pvp not paddys or initiates , i like been hunted by bhunters its like it is in the films alljedi should be hunted but there needs to be a system where you can chose say at initiate or paddy give new jedi a choice like after trails you get to chose lite and dark chose to be either pvp or not jedi shouldnt be forced into anything unless one thing happens bhunters are automatically tefed as soon as they grab mission simple as that also one other thing bhunters lose the amount fo cash they would have gained if they dont win and can go into -100 mill cash so say a bhunter picks up my mission he is instantly tefed at kardera against me and i am teffed isntantly against him if i win he loses 350k cash if he wins i lose 350k xp that i can deal with seems a nice way to do things personelly.

Honestly I don't know why the BH's do it. The payouts aren't enough to cover the expense of facing 1 full temp Jedi.

I guess it's just a matter of giving them something to do. But yeah, there's 0 incentive to stay and fight. and if your less than a full template, you'll just lose anyway, so better to run, hide. and stay alive.

Legalised Griefing plain and simple, thats why they do it and i'm on about the ones who win then start all that l33t speak crap, those morons need to be neutered, bad enough having burberry wearing chavs in RL, don't need the little gits in game too. There are plenty of decent BH who incap a Jedi and say "good fight" and don't DB and before some halfwit goes "aww did a BH kill you" the answer is no, no BH has yet. The system was used to keep the jedi pop low, it failed, time to get rid of it.

you are the moron. It is not legalised grisfing at all. Jedi was set up as a pvp prof, ment to be hard to play and seen as the end game for elite players so want something driffrent like a tough grind with the risk of outside attack and something to really lose other than a little decay on there gear.

The trouble is jedi has become easy allowing carebears to get into a pvp prof then whine and complain that thay should be left be. You knew you would get hunted but still went for jedi, Why? because you thought you would become uber and distroy anything in your path.

If you dont want to pvp but still want jedi then go play KOTOR

1. Want nonstop mindless PVP. Go and Play Counterstrike and leave SWG alone. (it goes both ways) It is for "ELITE" UBER PVP KIDDIES who want to shoot everything they see.

2. Believe it or not people want to be Jedi because it is Star Wars, and Jedi are its primary heroes. It is not to "become uber and distroy anything in your path". You would probably call the movie Jedi "carebares" as well...as one of their primary principals is to avoid combat whenever possible.

2. Jedi is a reward for dedication and should not be an excuse for some ethically challenged kiddies to take out their prepubescent frustrations out on you. With all the nerfs, we gain very little power by being a Jedi. We pay for our few parlor tricks with a very long grind. There is no reason for non FRS jedi to be "policed" by another profession.

I think the only reason to stay and fight the BHs now is for practice, and for nothing much more than that. It would be good to work out your temp a bit, learn it, etc... before FRS comes out. It seems like it is either that, or you can go overt and look for a GCW battle only to run into an 8 person overt gank group and die fast.

Whats in it for Jedi to stay and fight a BH?

No much, but the thrill of the fight, the rush you get when a BH surprises you and the fight that follows and if wining the PVP rating at the end. You can then turn to your friends and say, another BH bites the dust and mark them down for a change on your Bio

There is no dishonor is running away, I know, I know most BH's and some Jedi will say oh yeah there is but as said earlier, its a different story when a level 80 comes after you and you are only level 50, fair enough you want PVP, but you also want a fair fight and you don't want to loose that valuable exp for going up your combat level. There could be loads of reasons why a jedi chooses to run from a bh fight, I thinks its wrong to flame a jedi and call him a little girl or a coward. If a BH is really good he will wait for a jedi to be at his most vunrable (please excuse the spelling), when the jedi has no force and without the force their is no fight and the BH wins. In this case of course the Jedi is going to run, he/she is not a coward, he/she simply does not want to just stand their and die. I have run from BH'S on more than one ocation, but for other reasons from just scared to fight. I was just logging of when a bh attacked, had to go out, asked the bh nicely asking I'm just heading out for whatever reason and I cannot afford a 30 minute fight with you. The BH says no way. then what option do you have ???

Another time I was completely out of force and along came a BH (real bad timing) I used the buildings around me to stay ahead of the BH running from him so that I could force channel back without being hit, I was being called all sorts of names coward, chicken, little girl. I just stayed calm, kept the tactic until my force was full and then went into combat with the BH, needless to say I killed the BH in 5 minutes where he started running. Once dead all I got for the next 5 minutes was COWARD !!

Is it really being a coward to use your surrounding to buy you time before a fight ? Is it really being a coward to run if you have to go out or cannot afford the time for a huge battle ? Is it really being a coward if the BH has twice the combat rating as you can cannot afford to loose the Exp ? I don't think so. There are many reasons why Jedi's run, and its not always about being a coward, BH's just flare becuase it has taken time to look, track and find the Jedi and wants that money and gets fustrated when the jedi leggs it.

I have had a Knight since christmas of last year. I have no need for the xp so a loss to a BH dont matter to me. I do help guildies grind their Jedi, as well asother combat professions in grinding groups. I also help guildies with quests and clear spawns from their factories and harvesters. I have a handful of BH come for me since the CU hit. If I am doing guild stuff and helping guild members. I am not in the mood to be content for the BH i will cloak (I have master powers) and hang out, till the BH leaves. If I feel like being their content. I always find it fun to tripple incap them. Weather I run or stand and fight. It is my choice. As far as pvp for when ever the ranking system does come. I dont care I stayed a lvl 0 knight, and I was very happy to stay that way.

I dont buy the argument, "stay off the terms" thats total bs. there are so many factors that is totally out of a Jedi control. like natural spawns that pop up on top of him when he is doing his grinding (mercs on Lok do it all the time). Also fly-bys of other players ( and some noobs that like to just stop and watch with saber envy).

This is the REAL problem with the Jedi vs BH situation, there is nothing in it for the Jedi at all. It was thought in the beginning that it would be thrilling for both classes, in the end it is not. What happens is this older BH's get burned out like Older Jedi, the thrill gets old fast. For BH's there is a payout and a reason to take the mark so to speak, but for a Jedi, well bragging rights is what youngsters do. I like others just go about my business and get a few things done and basically want to be left alone. The problem is two fold, how vis works which makes it near impossible to avoid getting on the terminals and the whole "Target hunter scenario", Jedi are a "Target class" not PvP in any PvP both side has equal oppertunity to attack the other. In SWG the BH always get the first shot off and know what he's PvPing, he also gets to use the PvE tactics and in essence use the enviorment against the Jedi, any BH worth a grain of salt would do this everytime and pretty much gain a victory in most (not All) but most cases.

If there is to be true PvP the door has to swing both ways, there also has to be something to gain on bothsides of the fence. What will happen in the long term , is once a BH's sees his mark if the Jedi is a good PvP'er he will delete and move on, especially if there is a downside on bothsides of the fence. For younger Jedi, once they know who's hunting them especially if its a good BH will run. This is the nature of wo we are, if you can't win Run, if your a hard nosed nastey old man, after awhile they will run. Here as in life preadtor's prey on the weak, the sick, the old and the young.

As far as PvP skills go, fighting BH's isn't the same as fighting Jedi, skill sets are different and so are the tactics. If the FRS comes back Jedi skills will start to show their ugley heads, what work really well on BH's may suck to no end on Jedi. Since we have basically only two templates that folks are primarily useing now Jedi vs Jedi might be interesting. You may be great in the FRS , but be an easy mark for a BH. At this time we just don't know whats going to happen and anything else is just a guess.

PvP in itself is a very flawed system, because in the end it always comes down to two things, Gear and your hardware connection. Any MMPORG and or MUD has always realied on carrots to keep people playing, rarely do you see someone brag about their backstab skill, but the heatseeker dagger now theres something to show off. EQ is a very good example of how folks will spend hour upon hour to get a certain item and that item give them the advantage, not their skills but the gear. In SWG its foods, a good sabre, holocrons, health crystals, mind crystals, and a few other trinkets along the way, all these things give you an advantage it not your skill set, its the gear. What is never addressed is your hardware configuration in real life, the internet is a packet switching network and in this PvP system, anything less than a DSL and your gonna have a hard time. Satellite and dialup users, hit lag pockets more often, satellite users will have a constant 700 best time to 3000 worst ping let alone a 5% to 10% packet loss. Dial up and Satellite users are definatly in the cloak and run catagory. Their skills dont matter, their hardware does.

PvP can be interesting and fun, but as always there comes the mouths that followthe egotist. How to make a good PvP system has been talked and expierimented with for almost 20 years and in the end it has always failed. This is a puzzle that will take alot of time, and effort that people smarter than I will have to tackle. In the end I will do what I like to enjoy my time in SWG, Run or Fight I will do what Im in the mood for. Oh btw the guy who ran around the building to gain force while the BH what curseing, Kudos my friend Sun Tszu would have been proud of you, useing the terrain to an advantage is a very tried and true tactic. Luck to you all.

This might or might not have been discussed before, but I don't know, so I'm posting it for me. I'm asking that because other than the thrill of the fight there's nothing in it for a Jedi.

If a bounty hunter dies he's got to lose a couple droids, couple foods, and half an hour. If they win they get money.

On the other hand, the Jedi gets nothing in case of victory and has a lot to lose in case of defeat. But then "l33t bh dat cnat spel rite" will start talking all sorts of trash: ie. ahahahaha u wuss lol u coward etc.

Sure there's gonna be the 25 bounty hunters that post here coming and telling me how I should stay off the terms, and how that's the price for being a Jedi, oppinion which I respected before, but when you have a level 60 padawan having to fight a level 80 bounty hunter, how can you tell them that? When you have a MBH/MCM after you dealing 1500 damage a second, how can you tell them that?

I hope I made some sense in this post. :/

Anyway, /rant off.

Thanks for reading.

I am a BH yes, and I agree. Why should you stay and fight? Its your loss, not ours. But what happens when FRS comes back, and if by some remote chance MBH has something to do with you gaining ranks, you will be begging for more of us to come and fight you. And if you choose not to fight us in the past, your won't be as experienced in going against our templates, therefore, not as successful and then cry even more

Easy, stay off the Terms, dont use your powers infornt of NPCs or non group mates. Dont show off in the middle of Coronet or the Dant MO, dont heal strangers, keep it to your self.

You thought of that all by your self? Just because i choose to get the visability that causes a bh to come for me does NOT mean that i have to fight him.
