Thread: Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic
Right now sabers are too expensive to not have ADK's on them. But other professions, i think adk's could be removed from the game. One thing that might help, is if they would just say let weapons and armor last 2 times longer then they currently do, then people wouldn't need to change them constantly, thus ADK's would be more un-necessary. Of course taking away ADK's from people is like giving candy to a baby, then taking it back as he has it in his mouth, the baby would never stop crying.
It is a good line. Better then any one I could invent. So, yes, I stole it.
I've never seen that movie to be honest, I just know the phrase from general conversations. Its pretty well known in my parts.
Do you really think ADK's are good for the game? If so please explain how without using the flawed logic "It makes the game easier/faster/less complex"
Yup, SOE & devs are experts at rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic...
Only thing I would disagree with is ADK's, there are many unique loot items that are one per toon, that can't be crafted by crafters (which also sucks in its own right), but if you can't get it any other way than a quest reward... shouldn't you have some way to prevent it from decaying?

Speaking as a weaponsmith and an armorsmith, as if that really matters, I just don't think there are enough ADKs in the game to matter on the level you, and a few others, are claiming they do. Problem is not that a few weapons don't decay, it's that there are not enough viable weapons to choose from. If a player was required to switch between several damage types, across more than a couple of weapons (insert dev quote explaining that one of the fundamental changes coming with the CU would have been a broader range of useful weapons) then ADKs would have an even less significant impact on our economy than they already do - and the game would be stronger for all, crafters alike, at least in this regard.
To me, ADKs are a minor blip on the radar teeming with catastrophic blips. It sorta gets drowned out.

Sir, there are people with full suits of armour with ADK's.
I have ADK's on all of my lightsabers, and valuable equipt.
Also, if you ever change you mind about your amour or weapon, you destroy the item and get the ADK back to re-use.
I clearly benefit from the LARGE amount of ADK's in the game. I had 3 on the first day from all of my toons, more now from trades. I honestly would have expected a crafter to have a different opinion.
You have surprised me with your comments.

It's my macro'd response for when people call for nerfs first insteadarguing to make otheraspects of the game stronger.
(You are talking to someone with 11+ ADKs, so I am at least familiar with what is possible. I also know not many people are in this position. I also know that despite the fact that I can be liberal with what I ADK, my combat toons still go through many weapons/armor. And finally, I also know that if they fixed crafters, and what they should be able to craft, ADKs would not be an issue. At the least, I feel reasonably assured that last one is true.
)
With all due respect, the original post contains FAR more in terms of contructive improvements, then nerf calls. I just always thought ADK's were a no-brainer bad decision. Kinda like manastones in EQ.

I have to say that I agree with everything you said, even the part about ADK's being game breaking. My only thing is that unless they do some major fixes to the game(get pearls dropping again) and hopefully change the way sabers are built(make it more movie like where you put one crystal in it and it lasts for a VERY LONG TIME) truthfully, sabers shouldn't really decay, the only thing that should change is that one should have to perhaps put in a new power source every once in a while. This is the only thing that runs out, as crystals are only used as a refining device to redirect light, the power source that creates teh light in the first place might run out of batteries once in a while.(not often though)

You are right, the pearls should not wear out.
The lightsaber itself and power source should wear out.
SWG is not that bad bro.
It is a tragedy to watch it languish unfinished.
It is sad to watch it be twisted by desperate attempts for quick fixes.
