However.. the TIE bomber and Aggressors are bascially novalty ships. Without a very PYR RE'ed engine they're just too damn slow to be useful and they have odd weapon setups. The Oppressor is an outstanding ship except for its less than marginal handling. Its great for PVE but tough to master in PVP (Yes, I'm aware that you know some good Opp pilots, I do to...) As for the RGI, until its fixed its worthless and should not be used. The Decimator has insane mass, but its POB... of course it has insane mass...

Bottom line... Rebs get the Awing, the heavy X and the Bwing (gunboat destroyer) and freelance get a plethera of high mass ships. Try grinding Imp pilot without using a RotW ship. Enjoy you're low mass and one gun (One gun until tier4).

Regardless I love the Imp ships. The standard intercepter is still my favorite ship.

Anyways. There's my 2 cents.

I did tier 3 and 4 and the Vette in your novelty bomber. Keep in mind Rebels get nothing but these novelty class ships their first two tiers. The oppressor is an awsome ship. This is an old arguement that rarely holds for anyone who has done all three factions. Besides with the ROTW ships everthing is completely balanced if you want to be. ROTW ships are the composite in space. The more I explore the the three factios ships the more blanced the non ROTW ships seem.

Well i recently made this decision also, my main has and always will be rebel but i had to decide imp or privateer for my alt.

Pros of Imp:

* Fast, manouvarable ships. It really depends on youre play style, if you want to blow things up with as many guns as you can fit inthen go priv or reb for the krayt/rihk and heavy x/B-wing respectively, imp is for people who love to dogfight tbh.

* Skill wise i dont think i ever use any skill other than IFF to get rid of idiot t1-3 ships that chase me. Bstrike i dont use because its just as quick to kill stuff myself but they are good targets for random vettes to shoot at if you want. Nebula blast and pirate traps are usless, just dont use them ever . And Epulse is great, i would like to try it out with the new POB parts and try 1-hit kill a t4-5 gunboat.

* Droid commands arent really that important since you can grab any type these days, however since WO and EO are the main ones to 'fine tune' imps are better off as they can hot-swap those commands and not need extra chips.

Pros of Privateer:

*Slow, high powered ships. Can cause serious damage with good weapons equiped, Rihk was my fav PvE ships for a long time, the krayt is probably alot better but i like the look of the rihk more and thats all thats important .....oh and you get the YT-1300 for some that seals the deal then and there heh

* Skills and commands ive covered above

I currently have a master pilot in each faction and use the following...

Rebel - Heavy X-wing, gunboat destroyer/heavy support

Corsec - Grevious Fighter, Dogfighter

Corsec - Krayt M22, Minning vessel

Imperial - Oppressor, Capitol ship destroyer(45missle capacity, and bomberstrike3)

I find that Rebel seems to have the best overall setup on their ships for firepower. The Krayt M22 isn't bad but the weapons placement on the ship drop it down below the rebel which is why it makes for a great minning vessel. My neutral/Corsec pilot uses the grevious for any serious dogfighting that needs to be done, the manueverability makes it one of the ideal ships for this along with decent mass and 2 gunmounts which allows for enough firepower to make it effective. The imperial ships typically have a single gunmount which just simply does not pump out enough damage for me in most circumstances. Sure I can kill using the imperial pilot but why spend 10minutes making strafing runs on a gunboat(T5) when I can take it out in less than 2minutes with my rebel pilot and feel much safer doing it. The Imperial ships are best setup for POB and for Capitol ships, the large missle capacity on these ships are what makes them ideal for taking out capitol ships, 3 missle hardpoints with the right missle type will give you 45 shots and IMO the Decimator is one of the coolest looking POB ships other than the Y8.

So to sum things up...

Rebel = Heavy Firewpower/Good handling

Neutral = Medium Firepower/Average handling

Imperial = Low Firepower/Great handling

Special abilities...

Rebel = none really worth mentioning though some people may like the reload option or vrepair neither can be used when it really matters.

Neutral = Epulse is fun to play with but not really effective against high level ships and leaves your shields and cap totally drained after use.

Imperial = Bomberstrike is a very effective tool against capitol ships but can not be used in PvP. Also I consider the heavy missle capacity a special ability for Imperial pilots as well.

Imps have some of the hardest ships to hit (side-stepping the issue with the RGI).

My main character is an Imperial Ace and I'm training up my Alt to RSF Ace. Although it feels like the Imperial side is gimped with lower mass and weapon ports: a lot is made up in terms of handling, performance and ship sizes (small hitboxes even make it harder for the NPCs to hit you).

I still think the Imperials get a raw deal on mass and weapon ports but a lot of people disagree so I guess they must be right (I just want one Imperial ship with 3 weapon ports) Plus I haven't done the Rebel JTL stuff so I'm a bit biased

My suggestion: go Imperial Inquisition. The Neutral ships are massive: the Dunelizard is about the size of a YT1300
